1.
My, how times have changed.
Precisely what I thought!
 2. I'm trying out for a covers band tomorrow evening and as I worked my way down the emailed set list I counted four Foo songs. I recounted and yes, there's four of them. That's 13% of a thirty song set. Now I reckon off the top of my head there's a thousand songs a two guitar band could do that would entertain a pub audience (see other threads about hackneyed pub songs, and yes, Sex On Fire's in there) so four from the same band seems excessive. Also I've never rated them much; they seem to push all the buttons of people who love stadium gigs but don't like music very much.
 3.
Phenomenal player- but also has a 50% writing credit for Jimmy Nail's Ain't no doubt
Credit/blame?
 4.
What's the song with the longest intro? The vocals start at around 2:40 in this one: which is around 56% through the track. And this one arguably pushes further in precentage terms: although there are some backing vocals before, the vocal verse starts 1:48 in, or a whopping 60%. Oddly, when thinking about track length, the first three long hits I thought of - Hey Jude, Bohemian Rhapsody and O Superman - all start with unaccompanied vocals|...
Dammit, I was going to say that one!
 5.
... said the man in the orthopaedic shoes
Coat?
 6.
Let us know how it goes. Seen the others, not for a few years though. My first TMB gig was mid-90s in Atlanta, really enjoyable. Ditto years later at the Royal Albert Hall when Steve Hackett joined in for a bonus Firth Of Fifth encore.
Will do.
 7.
Yes, it is the marvellous Guy Pratt, playing 'Betsy'. @1:50
He's talking about an NS2 isn't he?
 8.
I have seen and heard many, but the best I have come across is Genesis tribute The Musical Box.
Off to see The Book of Genesis tomorrow night. I've seen G2 (they're really good) and ReGenesis. Missed The Musical Box last time they were over but they're definitely on the list.
 9.
Nice to see Bela Fleck and his missus last night. Also enjoyed Judy Collins (great voice still) and the band from Paris. Guy Garvey should have stayed home - dull as ......
Judy Collins was enchanting; great voice, presence, Beatles song, bass playing and even Jools kept the lid on the boogy woogy licks.
 10. Do we think he's trying to recoup a massive outlay? Did he pay a fortune for it?
 11. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. BIN £1995!
 12.
I think it was built with 15 strings, but so badly thought out that it would barely be a useable instrument. I've seen pictures of these in their original form, and there were quite a few abominations on eBay under the Tennessee brand a few years ago. There are pictures of an unmodified one here, though come to think of it this might be the same one with a few awful hack jobs and a coat of brown paint on the fingerboard. http://www.talkbass....t-crazy.447817/
Looks like Tennessee are serial offenders. Why?!
 13.
There is some seriously good value kit appearing on a regular basis. In addition there is a lot of really good quality 'budget' kit these days. This puts the squeeze on 'higher quality' kit. There is also a vast amount of kit around (not just BC). Officially the recession may be over however money is short, public sector pay freeze (cut in reality) has not helped. Concur with OP, A) people have no cash and C) there is too much out there. I will add E) quality / playability no longer costs. For me E) is the game changer: Most basses are becoming 'white goods'. CNC manufactured with immense quality control at basement prices. I have in my possession a Peavey milestone bass with EMGs - £110 s/h. I am hard pressed to see the quality / playability difference with my 'professional' USA and German basses. Bit like cars these days, I used to buy German, Swedish then Japanese. Now I buy 5 or 7 year 100K + miles warranty with most of the quality and all of the safety.
Great post. I recently bought an Aguilar GS112NT from feebay for £260 plus a 60 mile round trip for pick up.Mint, boxed, shop use only. Had an interesting conversation with the seller, a retailer who'd had it in his window long enough to get fed up with not shifting it, about how manufacturers and their online sellers in Europe are happy to keep prices inflated for the UK market.

 15. Someone's mentioned chorus before. What's the trick to that great sound?

 17.
Well, this was my first post on this forum and I am both grateful and impressed by the depth and speed of replies - a good community you have here. Thank you all very much. I'm not gigging and so I guess it'll do for sketching ideas onto the old eight-track. There's something weirdly appealing about the insane weight of this monster... Thanks all - much appreciated. John
Welcome John. Only been here a year myself and let me tell you there's nothing these guys don't know! They've even solved the meaning of life, the universe and everything! (Level 42).
 18. That clip must be Duff just before his spleen exploded! Agree with all the previous comments; some people think it's a throwaway song but you've got to do it properly for it to sound tight. Also it's gotta be raised to D!!
 19. I feel like that a lot on flea-bay. But I have the Basschat markets where everything is wonderful!
 20. I was surprised to see U2 on the show the other week and Later on the release of their (sh1t) last album a while ago. They're creatively spent but the tours are massive. Any thoughts anyone?
 21. Ticketmaster won't like that. There'll be smartphones sleeping with the fishes...
 22. Just seen the Friday edition. The bottom D on Wild Boys sounded great but everything else disappeared in the mix. Possibly a result of the Later/tv in general subby sound.
