1.
Drop Rob Vick (Rumblefish) a line. He uses a Bergantino 2x12 to very great effect.
Cheers, I will.
 2. I'm GASsing for some 12" cabs at the mo. Wouldn't mind hearing someone gig them. Heard a guy use two Markbass 12" cabs a while back and was impressed.
 3.
Yes please. I know i'm tempted
4. http://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-bass-amplifiers/bass-cab-davis-eden-replica-bass-guitar-amp/1126266218 Intruiging. Looks like this guy shells out for most of his gear?
 5. How does he scrape through a concert with those few sticks of firewood?
 6. Well let's get something clear: there is no afterlife. If the remaining members want to respect Chris's legacy that's fine but 'dying wishes' can be a bit misleading. Getting Jon Anderson back just to make it legit is rather sad, though I suspect he considers it his band and would probably do it. Have a final all-comers farewell show and fold the band.
 7.
A statement from Alan White: "It's certainly going to be hard without him, but he called me and asked me to keep everything going regardless of what happens. So absolutely we're moving ahead. I'm gonna do it for him
Actually you can argue with that. With the utmost respect, where Yes go next has absolutely nothing to do with Chris Squire.
 8. In 20 years time you'll book a gig and the landlord with pass you an X-Factor-esque set list and say 'Learn these, it's what the punters like!' And we'll sit around and remember the days when long, long ago we sold our souls to Sex On Fire and Dakota.
 9.
Conferred with my drinking partner, and we have (mostly) agreed on the following. I was jet lagged, and we had a few more beers than is my usual, so the end of the evening is a bit more hazy than normal. It helped enormously that they had a keys player, as a lot of this would be hard with just 2 guitars I think. I've certainly never heard Alanis Morissette's 'You oughta know' sung by a bloke before, and with no change to the lyric! That said, and as has been discussed on here many times, how many people actually listen to the words? Not in set list order................... Run with the pack - Bad Company Don't do it - The Band New sensation - Inxs Fortunate Son - Creedance Sting me - Black Crowes Cocaine - Eric Clapton version Cuts like a knife - Bryan Adams Purple Ran - Prince Rocks off - Primal Scream? Vertigo - U2 Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young Changing man - Paul Weller (although I'm told it wasn't, but was 'something else from that album' - Stanley Road) Waiting for the bus - ZZ Top (but it may have been something else from the pre MTV days - La Grange maybe?) Back in the USSR/Live and Let die - Beatles/McCartney
Absolutely nothing wrong with that set list. And I guess very entertaining.
 10.
I saw a great band last week - first two numbers : Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young and Vertigo by U2. The place was hopping from the start. They also did Purple rain by Prince as a slow blues, which gave the guitarist a great opportunity to wig out - and he was very, very good. I'm trying to remember the balance of the set list - it definitely had some INXS and Alanis Morrisette. They definitely did Fortunate Son, and Back in the USSR, going into a great version of Live and let die. Really nice to hear something different
Sounds like a damn good set list.
 11.
Spectoremg..... ( two comments back) I was wondering when someone would bring that up, you have hit the nail right on the head there. As I mentioned in by initial start up comment, there are thousands of songs out there that are just as familiar as the 100 or so that get used by so many bands. If its true that audiences call the shots on what they want to listen to, how come bands who don't follow this master plan succeed. Soul/ Motown/ Funk/Ska/ Disco..None of these play any of the 'Bible' set songs, and most people in an audience are not big fans of soul or funk or even tribute band that might be on offer, yet these type of bands pull more people, command more money, and play more rewarding stuff for them as players than the standard pub rock acts... I have not spent 30 years, and thousands of pounds to get to a decent standard so I can be told what to play by a pub landlord, a bunch of pi**ed women on a hen party or anyone else who only thinks the band is good after a dozen pints have been guzzled. Go to the Jam house in Birmingham, and see how many of the photocopy set list get played.....Zero...yet 300 people are in ther every weekend night for the sole purpose of watching a good quality band...
Well said. You're obviously correct because you agree with me If we pandered to what people wanted we'd be gigging Glenn Miller and Al Jolson covers!
 12.
1. Unnecessarily harsh. By all means challenge, but there's no need to be rude. 2. With all due respect, you've been here for 19 days. How can you have 'come to expect' anything?
+! At least bordering on rude.
 13. Always liked the man and Oasis. Good song choice. He's one of those guys the tabloids love to hate which colours peoples perceptions of him.
 14. An interesting point's being made here about seemingly 'obscure' songs replacing the coma-inducing 'Sex On Fire' etc. A bit of a change doesn't have to mean obscure. There's a thousand songs out there that punters know that just never get played.
 15.
I find it highly amusing...... Not that I play many pubs but we do try and play around ten pubs per year so that we can invite potential (mostly wedding) clients too. I always go in with the same blurb that we are not your average pub band (we play predominantly Disco covers) and that always gets raised eyes from the landlords/ladys. That'll never go down well here mate, they love the rock'..... I always make a bet with them there and then. If we don't entertain your punters as well as the best bands you have in here then we'll play for free. So far (7 years) we've not had to go down that route. It does amaze me when you see 90% of the bands playing the local circuit that have a similar set.... why is it that bands think they have to do this.... Are they worried to go outside of their comfort zone? Any way here's our set list - <snip>
Good point about landlords who generally know f*ck all about music.
 16.
Ah, the XS112 has arrived. Pretty decent
Wharfedale Lintons? Classic!
 17. The classic line-up of Yes would involve a permutation of the following who're still alive: Anderson, Bruford, Howe, Wakeman, White. You might get away with involving Tony Kaye and even Trevor Rabin. Howe and White are in place. Anderson and Wakeman (possibly) would come back. To satisfy my personal credibility you'd have to have three of the core members. The problem I have is that Chris was such a massive presence both creatively and artistically to Yes, and a legend with a bass that he leaves a hole greater than the 20% he ostensibly occupied.
