In terms of royalties, Yeah, that's right. It all boils down to what the agreed band split was. After that, whether or not Andy Summers wrote that guitar hook means nothing. You could argue that without without Sting, the others might never have made any money at all in the business.
You've hit the nail on the head - I'd gladly ride Sting's coat-tails for a small percentage of a fortune. There's also the argument that if Andy had just strummed those chords...
What's not to love? It's quite hard to watch this without some sort of smile, even though you may alternate the smiling with grimaces and head-shaking...
You wouldn't need to take it home, leave it at the bottom of the stairs if it gets stolen just go to the A&E department at your local hospital and look for somebody with excrutiating back pain.
So if I'm Andy Summers playing on Every Breath etc I don't get a royalty - Sting gets that. So what pays my mortgage?

It obviously bothers you else this thread wouldn't be happening, so carrying on regardless isn't the answer cos it's gonna rankle if he doesn't improve. There was a thread on here a while ago that went something like 'Would A Bad Drummer Make You Leave A Band' and pretty much universally the response was yes! I know there's a special relationship between us lot and our drummers but I don't think it should be exclusive to them. And don't feel as the new guy you shouldn't have a say - the band accepted you as a member and therefore any issues should be treated democratically.

Old Trafford Cricket Ground...not a music venue...
My tongue in cheek point, as per the OP was that it is a Cricket Ground not a venue...!
I was being tongue in cheek about your tongue in cheek -
Ha ha, I saw later too. I think he got his romper suit idea from watching Dune on another channel a bit earlier! And do the LEDs on his Status bass change colour or did he just demand a rainbow of choices from them?

Any suggestions of good simple basslines to learn?
spectoremg replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Get yourself Reggatta de Blanc by The Police, there's some great simple bass lines on there (and some not so simple for a beginner). -
"Old Trafford Cricket Ground". Why would anything in the title of that venue suggest to me it would be a good venue for music...?
Buddy Holly gigs? -
Loads of respect for Wal basses but sorry to buck the trend... gold hardware one end, black the other, a single pickup that's way to near the bridge. Happy bidding
Makes me miss the 'tours' of old - a band playing 20 dates at smaller venues spread across the country.
A tour these days seems to involve jumping on the festival bandwagon. -
Hopefully that means all the a$$holes that purchased tickets with no intention of going to the gig and just reselling for massive profit were left out of pocket. Hopefully.
+1. -

Mark Bass - single yellow knob required

Cheers guys, realelectronics are sorting me with one. -
Overture from Tommy. Roundabout. School's Out (especially seeing them on TOTP). Blackbird by Jaco. Lord of Light from Hawkwind's Space Ritual - there was a time when Lemmy was melodic. Honourable mention to anything by the Police - I learned the bass to it. And hundreds more. ...and Apocalypse in 9/8 by Genesis - what bass pedals were made for.
A bowl might have helped - the bigger problem is it's just a flat space with huge slab-sided stands around it, mostly. I've been there before and don't recall major sound problems, but as you say, it was a lot different. I believe last night they were going for 50,000, though from the number of empty seats, the space on the pitch and the hordes of desperate touts outside, they fell rather short...
Went to see the Foo Fighters last night at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground - that place is about as suited to gigs as the Apollo would be to a game of cricket... It was Godawful - the worst sound I've ever heard in a 'stadium' - and that's saying something - the swirling wind didn't help, but God Almighty, it was poor. No bass other than a dull thud, harsh barky mids and fizzy treble. Sound bouncing off the stands around the field itself and satellite speakers producing some horrible out of phase sounds, too. And some commercial genius decided concession stands are perfectly fine situated in the crowd - sight lines massively obstructed. A really poor atmosphere, too. I think they were banking on people drinking enough to pay to watch Dave G on TV and not notice how poor the whole experience was. We lasted an hour before sacking it and going home. I can only offer the advice not to bother going if you've any interest in decent sound (or sight, other than the TV screens) for a band. On the other hand, if you fancy standing 150 yards from the stage, holding your phone in the air, knock yourselves out...
Another mega-band who give a massive sh1t about the punter experience (not). -
This too is one of my long standing burning questions! Very clever bass sound
Stringray fretless with octave as I recall and whatever else he uses for his unique sound.

Nick Seymour (Crowded House), Woodface/Together Alone - shedloads of fundamentals. He was seen in public with Spectors around that time but I dunno what he recorded with.
Yep and that's the reason Alembic started making those classic basses with a point. Back in their early days before they started making basses they did loads of headstock repairs so when they made their own, they put a point on in order to force owners to put their basses on a stand.
This, is why I love this site. I did not know that!
As far as I know those two are the only exceptions to the No paid/free Endorsement rule. Everybody has to pay to get their new alembic either through a dealer or direct from the factory which costs more. Also not giving stuff away to endorsee's helps keep the prices down.... :-)
Yes it says in the article that they'd rather not pass on the cost to their ordinary punters. Maybe a few other manufacturers could follow suit.

I'd assumed that Alembic did endorsements for loads of people but no, only him and Stanley Clarke (according to Wiki). They supplied two at 34" scale and he ordered two at 32" scale.
