1.
Rechargable in everything for me.
+1.
 2. Hercules. I've used them for years. You lower your bass into the spring-loaded clip and it closes around the neck.
 3.
I've just watched a clip of them playing one of the surprises in the set. Thinking that - even through a crappy YouTube clip - the bass sounded better than it has is a while, I squinted a look at what he was using for that song. All I can say is... mwhahahahahaaa
What is it?
 4. Bought from 2nd hand two years ago - smoke and pet free home since then. Never gigged but has passed the Minitaur test indoors. Pick up from Gosport (nr Portsmouth).
 5.
considering that as you fret different notes, the nodes will shift too, I don't think that plays a role.
Durrgh! Just realised that - someone erase this please
 6. Interesting stuff about pickup placement - particularly where the 24th fret would be. I've always thought Ricks were good at producing the fundamental - is that a product of it? And are the harmonic positions somewhere to avoid?
 7.
In that case he's got his dates wrong, he says he worked on RG's bass in 1974 by which time Glover had left Deep Purple entirely. WDWTWA was recorded July-October 1972 and released in 73. Or it had already been modified previously by someone else.
Pretty sure I've seen pics of him using it in Purple?
 8.
VAMPIRES!
Bugger, I remembered that one just after I'd posted. They opened a show at the Hammy on their last tour with Frank with a b-side - Bullet in the Barrel.
 9. Can we assume from your description of it's use that it's mint?
 10.
Glover's modified Rick is on "Who Do We Think We Are?". Compare the tone to that on "Machine Head" - it's much fatter, but woollier and with less definition. Still has a noticeable Rick flavour, though.
Cheers, I like that album.
 11.
Lemmy is well known for replacing the neck pickup. One had a Thunderbird pickup, another had a Bartolini, amongst others. I never understood why as he only uses the bridge pickup... Lemmy once described Rickenbacker pickups as sounding like 'chewing corrugated iron'. He seems to like the humbuckers they use on his signature model though.
Chewing corrugated iron's his sound isn't it?
 12.
Pete Agnew from Nazareth had the same mods. Here's an interesting bit about Glover's: http://www.dawksound.com/bass.html
Cheers. Do you happen to know what he used it on?
 13.
What's this one Sid's hitting?
OMG, that isn't Roger Glover's old one is it?
 14. The Smiths. No, not the Smiths, someone telling me how every nano-note was 'important man'.
 15.
Brilliant.
Tattoos as creative compensation. Now we're getting somewhere
 16.
Ellie Goulding/ Florence and the Machine The guy shouting in the video above isn't being anything less than sincere although judging by the party being replicated in the film I wouldn't want to be his neighbour. Ol' Flo and Ellie though are insincere and are trying to pass off lack of talent as a singing style- and that rubs me up the wrong way.
Agreed, and people are lapping it up.
 17.
Metal of all flavours. Ok if you are 14 I guess and trying to annoy your parents. This goes to 11....
18. It Bites did some good b-sides. I'll Meet You In The Spring is prob my favourite. It's good to remember a time when you didn't just get four mixes of the single.
 19.
Remember when singles were 7" and we all had the pleasure of an unexpected b-side? Occasionally, you would get what they called a 'double A side' with the two faces alternating in air-play etc but, mostly, the b-side was an album track or even a track not available anywhere else. A couple I remember being quite impressed by were 'Own Up, Take A Look At Yourself' by The Sweet and, a song that I have loved for years now, 'Evidence of Autumn' by Genesis (b-side to 'Misunderstanding'). There will be others but I always remember thinking that, often, the b-sides were the better songs.
Nice one. Genesis were one of those prolific bands who did tons of b-sides.
 20. Duran Duran, Live Aid (US) when Simon LeBon's voice went AWOL during View To A Kill. That one is on Youtube!
 21.
Interesting! Never seen that one before. I believe Mr Knight is no longer with us but the company lives on - his son runs it now apparently. There's a website but no mention of these basses. I might send him an email to see if he can shed any light. http://www.knight-guitars.com/
http://www.rickresou...rutherford.html Here's an article about the work he did on Mike's Ricks. and here's a bigger pic of the beast. Sadly the ad's in German which I don't comprehend.
 22. I happen to own his 'difficult' 2nd album... still, Cass Lewis is all over it.
