Yeah, very sad news. Dave has a pillar of the Genesis trib scene since very soon after the time I started in the mid-90s - and passed on incredibly valuable info about how to keep a Moog Taurus I in tip-top condition (mine weren't).
Emailed him a couple of times about stuff and he's a nice chap.
Ditto. Different song, but same faux-pas…
It's the sin of pride - 'hey check me out, I just flick this and I'm in D!'
First was Invisible Touch, mid-90s to early 2000s, then a stint with In The Cage kind of mid-2000s to 2007 or 08. Did a one off with The Carpet Crawlers from Liverpool around the same time, and was later hired by ReGenesis but didn't gig with them due to cabinet reshuffles. I often bump into current and ex incumbents on the prog gig circuit - there seem to be more Genesis tribs around now than ever before.
G2 announced recently that their 'Mike' was leaving - Parkinson's has finally got the better of him sadly. Loads of time for Mike Rutherford and it must be a tough gig being him.
Simply put, I have the offer of 2 tickets to see Paul McCartney at the NEC - eigth row, and at face value - but, that £240 ish quid for 2 tickets and Mrs A isnt a fan, as she's still not forgiven him for marrying again so quickly after Linda died. Not that she's a massive Linda fan, but she felt it was too soon and disrespectful, given his protestations about the love of his life. She also thinks his voice is shot, and it's too late now to see him live, as he's just past it. That said, she's willing to go, as she knows I'd simply like to see him in the flesh, before it's too late. Anybody seen him live recently? Can he still cut it, or am I going to spend a lot of wedge and come away dissapointed? All thoughts greatly appreciated as I need to say yes or no tonight to the guy offering them up!
Go, there aren't many living musicians you can call legends.
Genesis (retired). I've been the "Rutherford" in about 4 UK tribs armed with Shergold, Rickenbacker, Moog and a 12-string acoustic (which was the hardest to play of the lot)
Which ones? I've seen G2 and ReGenesis lately.

Used to regularly flick the hipshot down for Summer of '69 and forget to put it back for the next song.
Yeah... 'I don't want to live in the past', said Plant, during a break from performing 40-year old songs with a band who's line-up simultaneously evokes the 1990s, 1950s and 1930's.
Well put. I have a lot of respect for him, he made a living after Led Zep but this new band is awful. And before I climb down; Peter Gabriel far too busy for Genesis while he's reworking his old stuff! I don't expect either of them to be committed but don't give us pi$$poor excuses why not.

Instead of doing some Zep gigs Planty's busy ruining their songs by doing 'versions' of them. A world music experiment too far.
if you listen carefully to every little thing she does is magic you can her the upright on the intro and also on every breath
Ta, I can hear that one, it's just that sometimes they seem to merge. -
John Paul Jones, pretty much all of Led Zeppelin II.
I love playing along to the old Police tunes. I had the guys mess about at practice trying a few Police tunes a couple of times, unfortunately our drummer wasn't really up to the task I love the mix of whitman reggae-rock that they had. Sting had/has great timing in his playing and had the skill and ear to never overplay his lines and the chops to do each song justice. I read somewhere that during recording at one point he would often track his upright with his electric.
Good point about drummers and Police songs, a lot of them just want to play 'normal' beats and that ain't gonna work. So is that why I can't quite work out what kind of bass he's playing? -
AFAIK he did buy his first fretless and gigged it that evening. Why can't I use the quote button . I press it but it doesn't do anything
I switched to Chrome to get it working. -
I've read the Bill Milkowski book and it's a damn good read. I'm no Jaco expert but I didn't find anything inaccurate in it and there's some great tributes. Allegedly his family weren't too pleased with this version of his life but I'm not sure what they objected to.
I think it's a pretty normal thing. I have a pen knife my grandfather gave me when I was 10 and I was a boy scout. I still have that pen knife and it has sentimental value to me way above the value of the knife. My world would not stop if I lost it, but I'd be sad about that. Another pen knife would not do. I already have another couple of them, but THIS one is the my grandfather gave me. You don't understand that?
Would your world implode if you lost that knife?
There are many others that look just like it, but this is the only one that the OP's late mother helped him to buy. Are you seriously suggesting that none of your possessions have any sentimental value to you?
No, I didn't say nothing has sentimental value to me, it's quite clear in the post what I'm saying. Through divorce I've learned to walk away from a situation with what I could carry in two hands - the rest I've replaced if I needed/wanted to.

Did this make an appearance (whatever it is)?
I was searching for a backing track for "So lonely" and came across this site: http://www.karaoke-version.com where you can choose what instruments to mute, an download the result for £1.99 per track. It's not the original version, but the quality is pretty decent for most songs I checked. "So Lonely" is there and sounds cool. I thought someone else might like it.
Don't know if such a site exists but the music industry could make a mint doing this with the original tracks. -
15 string bass !, cheap as chips
Sorry to say I've never heard of him. But then I'm quite sure he's never heard of me, either. I don't get why you'd buy a bass on the strength of it being previously owned by a 'celeb'. What possibly difference can it make?
An Adam Clayton endorsed bass would be in mint condition - he hardly uses them before someone else waves a cheque at him
