1.
As another aside, the listing did link out to this particular specimen and now I wish I had three grand to spare http://www.ebay.co.u...427705595&rt=nc
Nice bass but they're stretching the celebrity definition a bit far.
  2. Cheers guys. I'm happy with the ohmage thing and I was pretty sure that the two jacks were an in and out for a second cab. If I ever do that I'll get one of those series cables and halve my output.
  3.
Used to play The Bed's too big without You which has to be one of my favourite basslines of all time. Unfortunately it got dropped because the 'play something we know' crowds didn't get it.
Great song for getting your speed up when you're learning too.
  4. Ladies and gents, Could someone help me with the backplate on my Ashdown ABM 2x15? ie what all the sockets do? Many thanks.
  5.
Sting played a few fretless basses during the police. 2 different precisions, Ibanez Musician, a very rare custom built Ibanez Musician with a natural body and maple board, Hamer Blitz 8 string fretless, There was also a fretted Ibanez Musician, not forgetting he used a Steinberger L2 in 1982 and the lovely White Spector NS2. There was also a 60s Precision (fretted) used in the Monserat documentary with Jools Holland and lastly the Van Zalinge upright, endearingly named 'Brian'
Cheers for this, I'll be looking these up.
  6. Pretty much picked my first notes out to Police songs - great to learn the bass to. Respect. I think he switched to fretless for a bit in 79/80, then for the last tour saw the light and used a Spector!
  7.
Anyone in the West Country recently had a Cort 5-string nicked?
lol
  8.
Walk up to the counter and after waiting the requisite 45 minutes for someone to ask me, "can help?" I would ask if" they had any Zemaitis basses in stock?" Then walk out mumbling........."they never have any choice in these places!"
Heh heh
  9.
Look at it, maybe ask if I could pick up.. but would tell them I wasn't interested in buying it...as couldn't afford it.
lol!
  10. Is this bundle of gorgeousness still available in the UK?
  11. Nice one. Love the guy and his stuff but dunno about the loony astrology.
  12.
I think i would peruse the bass as a highly crafted instrument looking at all of the fine detailing. Inwardly i would take gratification from the fact that i bought a bass i am very happy with for 10 1/2 grand less. ☺
This.
  13.
Totally agree about Clapton. Wonderful tonight is one of the worst things I have ever heard .
Bet a lot of us have had to play it at a wedding.
  14.
There are an infinite number of reasons for poor sound in a venue, here's just a few: Rooms not designed for music, different shapes, materials used in the building, furnishings etc all affecting sound. Walk around a venue during a performance and hear how drastically the sound changes from one position to another. PAs not up to the job. Poorly positioned and set up PAs. Sound engineers not experienced/qualified to deal with dodgy acoustics. Musicians too loud on stage. Bands that try to reproduce their recorded arrangements on stage - maybe an idea to rethink that fast 16s bass synth part for the enormoshed tour! Bands that just aren't very good. Live sound production has always been hit and miss, not just since the advent of electronic dance music.
This. I also think it's always been a problem and engineers have a tough job to some extent. I only realised a few years ago after a conversation with a relative who's a monitor engineer that FOH is the poor relation - musicians care much more about what they hear. Never mind walking around a venue, move around your lounge when you're listening to music and see how the dynamics change. There's a sweet spot at home in the same way there is in an often huge venue.

    Chorus advice

MXR Chorus De-Luxe (with flanger) anyone?
  16. Mark Bass gig bags are disgracefully overpriced!
  17.
Yep - neck dive is my bugbear. Why design a bass that doesn't balance well ?
Warwick Thumbs.
  18.
Gold hardware...
+1.
  19.
Bad ergonomics. There's no excuse for a bass that doesn't balance well and feel comfortable to play - we're not in the 1950s anymore!
Precision's are out then.
  20.
I didn't like the bloody woman! We even had hate-sex while drunk. And there is no way I could enjoy the Eagles, then or now!!
Hate sex?!
  21.
Whoa hold on there - passing notes are entirely different to ghost notes. Passing notes are gliss's or commonly chromatic connecting notes in a line or melody. Ghost notes are notes that have a rhythm value but no pitch as they're muted or otherwise not sounded. Make sense?
I meant bum notes. Were you being ironic about my irony?
  22. 'Passing notes', now they're my speciality
  23.
Interesting. I had to watch a YouTube video to see what a ghost note was. I've been doing this (playing ghost notes) for nearly forty years, for feel and adding presence in the song, but I never knew that what I was doing was called "playing ghost notes" until today. lol
Me too!
