  1. Get yourself a new Mayones bass. Built in headphone preamp! What a great concept.
  2. That’s 1000 models, the actual number of physical basses will be much, much higher as they’ll keep multiples in stock. I’d guess they keep hundreds of best sellers like HB/sire basses in each colour in stock.
  3. It’s great and very enlightening. Enjoyed the episode where they talked about the actual cost of putting on the festival and booking the bands. Seems like it’s drastically changed lately. The Scottish fella swears a bit excessively but that’s just the way he is I suppose.
  4. Thank you. I’m much improved over recent weeks, although struggling with fatigue a lot. I’m not quite sure how I made it through this one without falling asleep (imagine that!), but just about managed it.
  5. Recently played as part of a scratch party band for the local cricket club end of season bash. It’s a bit of a collective of musicians and vocalists with some loose connection to the club (players, parents, wife’s etc). All very friendly and sociable. Two rehearsals only but came together nicely. The drummer was my neighbour who plays in loads of function bands. I had to play this one sitting down as I’m 4 weeks post pituitary surgery (don’t tell my doctor I played this!) and was feeling very fatigued by the end of it. It really made me concentrate on my playing rather than trying to “perform” if you know what I mean. Venue was Sandmartins, a local golf club function room, lovely acoustic, nicely dampened room, no shrill surfaces. Very welcoming and helpful staff, easy load in. Backline is owned/borrowed from club members and to my delight they have an Ashdown abm 4x10 and tc head to play through. Wonderful! Very fun hour set after the audience had got their awards (best bowler, batsman etc) and had been sufficiently lubricated at the bar. Mostly party stuff with a few band choices thrown in. I will survive, love shack, there is a light, summer of 69, easy, respect, lean on me etc. Singers great, audience appreciative, and a short trip home. Just what I needed actually! Music is a healer!
  6. Consider that everytime you hear one of these oft-repeated ear worms that someone out there is earning something from it! Maybe it’s a new genre, Tesco sh*te. Wish I’d written one of them!
  7. Edifier (as designed by Phil Jones) make loads of active bookshelf sized speakers. If you can find a pair and have the space, the 1855rb are superb. I used to use them and upgraded to some bigger ones. Bluetooth them to your pc (sounds much better than using headphone out/ preamp in) and they work a treat. They turn up on Facebook/ eBay all the time for around £100 secondhand.
  8. Does Botox come in barrels? I’d need industrial quantities! Not for all the brown m&ms in the world.
  9. I’ve had fantastic experiences selling gear at the bass gallery before.
  10. I’m jealous. I went to the first atg in 2013 & I’d love to be able to go this year. Meshuggah are going to sound absolutely massive, they are the best metal band for me in the world. On a different note I was able to see cats cats cats in London last week who were great fun. Have a fabulous time.
  11. That’s a shame. We’re talking about Freddy here though aren’t we?
  12. I’m amazed the sterling model (the model, not the import line) isn’t more popular. I’ve loved everyone that I’ve tried in the past.
  13. A video call goes a long way to seeing if they have the actual item! If they can turn it around, talk about the history etc. Only takes a second to set something up.
  14. This explains Andy Irvine’s trip to Germany to record some secret videos on new products. Expect to see a bunch of demo videos soon.
  15. That looks great. Very tasteful and adds to the allure of the instrument. Great job!
  16. I love it! It’s so beautiful!
  17. If I send you an appropriately sized stamped, addressed envelope will you send me a prize? 😉
  18. A string single of ridiculous gauge that can’t be wound up like a normal string.
  19. I think you’ve (and sandberg) have nailed it. I’ve tried to be a fan of their basses but just don’t like the tone. It’s perfectly usable but I can’t get excited about it.
  20. Played a gig in London once where we went on first. The next band broke up during our set! We looked out the window of the Camden barfly and could see members of said band fighting each other in the street. Cue awkward 45 minute gap until the headline band played. Their tour manager was loading out their gear and merch by himself. All in all a bizarre experience.
  21. Ever see a picture in an art gallery and think, I really want a bass in this colour! This is like an aged seafoam green with an undercoat of Aztec gold. Maybe. Fender experts may correct on this. Taken at the Tate at St Ives in Cornwall, artist credited in the pic.
  22. Bordering on Entwhistle territory! I bet you’ve got some gems in there.
  23. I’d throw it under the bed and consider keeping it for another ten years. Who knows what these will be worth.
