  4. Did you contact the UK distributor or DR directly?? The UK guys at firstline are pretty decent folks. Not getting back to you twice is very bad form and very bad customer service.
  5. Really like the truss rod wheel access on the neck, never seen that before and it makes a lot of sense.
  6. The guy smashed the key safe off the wall outside. It's most likely someone who has used the studio and very recently. There is more cctv to come with a direct feed off the camera and potentially from the carpark. Will update the thread with more info when it appears.

  8. Played 3rd on of 4 bands at 'Poison Bar' in Basingstoke last night. To be honest we were a little intimidated at the start of the evening but it ended up being great fun. I felt a bit sorry for the headline band as they had to wait until the boxing finished before playing. We managed to somehow time the ending of our last song to stop exactly 5 seconds before the first round started.

The shop went under sadly but we had made the decision to stop stocking Warwick's some time in the past. Whenever we would get inquiries from customers I would get to the meat of the conversation (price) and people were shocked with the prices we were quoting (and they were competitive!!!!). Put simply they priced themselves out of the market to customers. Every 6 months for 2 year period the cost price to dealers went up by 10-15% a time. As a dealer the commitment of goods you have to take on to be a Warwick Centre was prohibitive and unaffordable for us. To offer any German made Warwick's at all you had to have at least 12 in stock and a Hellborg system. Warwick offer no kind of credit account so you have to have the cash up front to pay for £20-30K of goods. The product is fantastic, the quality better than ever but at the prices they are now there isn't enough of a customer base to support sales at the prices they have set. £2.5k plus for neck through 5 string?? Double buck's with no options for over £1100?? That's why there isn't a UK dealer base anymore. Sad really coz the basses are great but at a time when the second hand value is so poor it's very hard to justify buying a new instrument. It was especially frustrating for us as we had always done well with the brand with many customers ordering custom shop instruments but we simply couldn't afford to keep stocking them. Oh and Sime I mentioned I had a white scratchplate for the DJ5 knocking around somewhere - I've found it. PM me if you want it and I'll drop it in the post.
  10. Up for sale is my old sound-card. It's a Focusrite Saffire. It is sold unboxed (chucked it out a couple of years back - doh!) but in fully working order. Bought around 2008. I think it was around £280 at the time. I still have the Firewire cable it came with and a CDROM with a free version of Cubase LE on it. The drivers and manual are available to download for free from the Focusrite website.   11. Went to the gig at the roundhouse last night and it was a little bit average. The sound was great, the venue was great but they didnt quite nail it for me. Maybe the venue was a little bit too big for them. Also the light show was terrible, just dull and uninspiring stuff which was unconnected to the songs. I would go and see them again but only in a smaller venue.

  13. Hi guys I play in an instrumental prog trio called Heights. It's certainly leaning towards the heavier side of what you could term as modern prog, mostly thanks to our drummer Jay who is a metalhead - he also plays in a signed band called Tesseract - go check them out! Its great only having guitar, bass and drums and not running any samples or keys. It does give a lot more space for melodies from all 3 of us. We have a couple of albums out and gig sporadically around new releases. We have had good press in the likes of Kerrang, rock sound, classic rock prog and some radioplay on total rock and Kerrang radio (unsigned band of the week last week!). Have a listen!   14. We had a standard 4 and premium 5 into work. We sent the 4 back due to a few finish issues but kept the 5 which sold really quickly. The 5 was infinitely better than the standard 4 in every respect. You get the upmarket Fishman system with the tuner built in, the Bubinga back and sides and it just felt like a better instrument. Unless it really was a Friday afternoon job I would really say get the premium over the standard. Disappointing they dont come with rockbag gigbags for the price but they do include the same folder of extra stuff which the German made Warwick's include.
  15. The metal scene is dominated by a program called drumkit from hell by toontrack. Its ridiculously high quality samples recorded by top notch session players including thomas haake from meshuggah. It does enable bands to achieve huge sounding drum tracks which is always the most time consuming and difficult part of recording. As you can get all the drum tracks done before going into the studio to record it saves loads of time and leaves the band to concentrate on getting good takes by the other guitar players and singers. It can obviously give a very false impression of a bands musical abilities as it means you can get technically perfect drum takes which might not be anyway representative of the abilities of the player. There are a few metal labels who outwardly reject recordings made using the software as it means they don't really know if the band can play! It is pretty distinctive sounding and can be easy to spot but to a casual listener they wouldn't know any better! It's also got its place in allowing guitarists (who are often the main soundwriters in many bands) the ability to program guide drums to their riffs and take them to rehersal to give the drummer more of an idea of what they want on the tune.
  16. TI Jazz flats on my Jazz. After 6 months on I'm amazed at how they cut through live. They just seem to find all the space I couldnt find before with regular round nickel or stainless strings. I dread the day I break one and have to change the set!
  17. looked like a Jazz to me, passive and olympic white with matching headstock. Knowing his pedigree and history of playing really high end basses from the likes of Avella Coppola etc I would imagine it was a real old one or Custom shop reissue. Great tone and top performance. I would have liked to have heard them play a new tune. Maybe they have a greatest hits coming out I suppose.

  20. I've just enjoyed a brilliant half an hour looking at the basses on the site. The translations are hillarious!!! I think its google attempting to work out the intricacies of the specs on these instruments. I particulary enjoyed this one: It is a reissue of the jazz base of the type for 62 years. A beautiful condition is comparatively kept though there are top slightly minute [u**] of the body and a detailed abrasion. In backing, there are a dent wound shallow like 15mmx6mm and minute little [u**]. It doesn't stand out in not deep damage that reaches wood both of these but the long-sight. The whole content is not told easily in the image. The dirt that soaks into long and slender [u**] and the painting of about 10mm is seen in the part where the side that came to set up the base downward put out Japanese parsleys most. There are playing wounds in the pick guard and the reception desk picking up. Luster is kept though a small macula by rust has been slightly generated in the plating of the control plate. The condition of the problem is excellent. Fred's decrease is hardly seen. [Gentaka] by 12 Fred is about 1.9mm on four bowstring side, and about 1.6mm on one bowstring side. Some wounds and use [**] are excellent overall including the performance conditions though it is. B + near A. The serial number is O025016. Crafted In Japan is printed. It is made of 1997-2000 years. Accessory: Manufacturer pure software case 'Pure software case, Japanese parsleys most.' Actually pretty much the whole description in quotable!!!
  21. I've got one of those and I've never noticed any issues with noise although it is my only live pedal. I would try running it off a battery and see if the hum vanishes. If it does then you know you need an isolated power supply. There are loads of good ones out there and the TREX pedal power supplies are superb. On an old set-up I had 10+ pedals and the differance from going from 2 DC cheap bricks (£30 each) to a TREX Fuel tank was huge. It was akin to upgrading all my patch cables again.
  22. I really liked it too. The mix was very bass light even on BBC HD but the band were spot on throughout the whole set. I couldn't see a bass backline so I guess he was just using inears. They looked like they were having a ball too which I always like to see - none of that moody rockstar nonsense.
