  1. Thing is, the little room was perfect for quieter set ups, then again mine was only audible for a while until more rigs arrived. It’ll be worse this time as I’ve gone FRFR but then at least everyone gets to see it if not hear it. Ignore me, I’ve just talked myself out of my own answer, as you were.
  2. From the Guitar Technical Services site, a luthier I swear by... http://www.guitartechnicalservices.co.uk/acatalog/Bass_Guitar_Restring.pdf
  3. Exactly this...
  4. (F)ucking hell.
  5. Hello!
  6. I play seated without a strap but yes, the bridge is much further from the end pin on the Godin than on the P. Typical me, just looking at specs rather than at the actual bass!
  7. Despite having played bass for (I think) around forty odd years I had, until very recently, not played a Fender Precision although I have had plenty of chances to do so since being on BC. I hadn’t bothered because I assumed that the scale length would be 34” and my Godin A4 has a 34” scale length and the headstock is, frankly, in the distance and subsequently gives me shoulder gyp. However, my bass tutor has a couple of Precisions so I tried his 1971. I was confused, it was lovely but surprisingly short compared with my Godin, short enough to be very comfortable indeed but I think it has a 34” scale. So, my question is (and forgive my utter technical ignorance) just because a bass has a certain scale length, that scale length does not necessarily mean the bass has to be a specific overall length? (As I’m reading this back it’s sounding increasingly stupid). I cannot see an ‘overall length’ spec on the Fender site, is this not something usually taken into consideration? Or am I just missing something really obvious? Naturally I would not buy a bass without trying it but if I measured that 71 Precision I could then compare that overall length with that of other basses in order to at least narrow the field of try outs.
  8. Oh I don’t know, I’m confused.
  9. ...which often ends in the posters making a rudd for their own backs. Fixed.
  10. ...and I’ve just discovered what shilling means in this context.
  11. I have discovered interesting and helpful info on ‘the other site’ whilst also experiencing the ‘hilarious and reactionary spats’ that I mention in my first comment. What I didn’t mention in that first comment (Im not going to blame being sloshed, it was two glasses of wine sloshed, not enough for excuses) is that the first sentence of this description also pretty much goes for BC too. Both sites have helped me make purchasing choices and also made me so livid I’ve considered leaving. As always with forums, be they here, there or anywhere, they are little microcosms of society with things to like and dislike... Yesterday I was just feeling like a disgruntled Mexican.
  12. I’m trying to contribute in a constructive way but I’m sloshed.
  13. My 4r53, post chilli, does some good bass (don’t post when oiled, don’t post when oiled).
  14. I was kidding but am a bit pished at the pub and couldn’t find emojis, @Bluewine is an exemplary American and definitely an honorary Englishman.
  15. I pop over occasionally, mostly just to make me realise what a surprisingly reasonable lot we are on here. For the amount of people who contribute this really is one way of the most grown up sites I’ve ever been on. I’ve had some hilarious and instant reactionary spats across the pond on the ‘other’ site. Perhaps we should build a wall to keep them out?
  16. @Cuzzie, sorry Sir, bowled you a googly there! I actually use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, not the 18i8, sorry again.
  17. I have the Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 and have done exactly this.
  18. Finally someone has pointed out the pointlessness of having a forum, on any subject. Moderators, shut down Basschat immediately! 😁
  19. I moved over to using a QSC K12.2 and I’m 100% chuffed with it, never going back to amp/cabs. From what I’ve gleaned RCF gear is ‘better’ but QSC seems to occupy a really good quality middle ground. Anyway the thread above is a huge mine of information and if you want to try out my K12.2 you are more than welcome.
  20. Man you’ve hit the jackpot, welcome Javi.
  21. Well I’ve said it before but I thought I’d found the bass that was my fretless GAS killer with the Rob Allen but having played @wrinkleygit‘s Jabba fretless at the SW Bass Bash I properly fell in love. @Jabba_the_gut‘s basses are extremely good value, which is another reason I’m trying to get two out of him before he realises... shhhh 🤫
