  1. Jaz would describe them as Punk, Paul Raven used to describe them as Post-Punk, Geordie looked aloof whilst smoking menthol cigarettes and Big Paul agreed with Raven.

  4. Indeed and this was true at every Bass Bash I’ve been to.
  5. I remember a band called Heist with two bass players, as mentioned briefly in the post above but I can’t find anything about them online!
  6. People do play each other’s basses, it’s one of the best parts about the events. I keep an eye out for such things as I have a couple of basses I’d like to keep in good nick but no one I’ve ever encountered has had a belt buckle on. Perhaps, as bass players, we realise this and don’t wear such things to Bashes
  7. Of course, although the one I have now isn't the one I got from you, I regretted selling it the minute I sold it!
  8. I've got one of these, most fun you can have without a pipe stuffed with crack.
  9. I once 'acquired' a snare drum that used to belong to Topper Headon, it had his signature on the underneath head and had plenty of provenance. It was in the corner of my room for about fifteen years. I went to a big old party down in the west country and a really old friend of mine was going who I'd not seen for twenty odd years, he was (is) the drummer in a reasonably well known punk band. I thought I'd take the drum down and give it to him knowing he was a huge Topper fan. Well, on greeting him it turned out he'd become an absolute (insert desired expletive here) over the years and he was rude and unpleasant to everyone, including me. I left the next morning and not wanting to take the snare home as a reminder I chucked it in a skip at a motorway service station.
  10. Absolutely. I only commented to let people know the documentary was on, come on Ray, back to the gentlemanly civility of The Den, my round.
  11. I was lucky enough to see NMA with Morrow a couple of times (including the one below thirty-nine years ago), what a unique player.
  12. Their third album, the sublime Empires and Dance, has some great bass from Mr Forbes. The whole album sounds like it was built around the bass lines and sequences. One of my favourite albums of all time…
  13. I’m 60, hardly young, listening to a band made up of a 50 and 49 year old.
  14. I suppose Japan count as New Wave therefore we have to include the governor…
  15. No, Leigh Gorman played bass for Bow Wow Wow. Andy Warren went straight from Adam and the Antz to The Monochrome Set.
  16. …and their film Bunch of Kunst (2017) is on Sky Arts tonight at 10pm.
