Warm up exercises when you can't physically play?
kets replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure about warm ups when you can't actually play, but I find a good pair of gloves always helps and just keep your fingers moving to get the circulation going. Help to prevent damage in the same way that you'd warm up before going running or cycling. Probably not the advice you were looking for, but I sometimes get circulation issues with my fingers and I find that this helps. It doesn't help that some of the rehearsel places I've played in have been so cold that Ranulph Fiennes is planning expeditions to them...! Kets -
Superb bassline and good transcription. Thanks for the link! Peace Beyond Passion is still my favourite Me'Shell album though...

Possibly the only phrase missing from this ad is: "These are the best basses you can buy anywhere in the world and other places as well"...

Awesome post, Pino IS the man! John Mayer's an awesome axemeister as well though, very Stevie Ray Vaughan. Pino also did some superb playing on Joan Armatradings "The Shouting Stage" Album. Check out the intro to "The Devil I know", could be the best Pino lick ever IMO.

Hohner Jack Bass Custom V vs. Fender JB Deluxe Series MIM
kets replied to AlX's topic in Bass Guitars
I've got the all maple 4 string Jack Bass Custom which was actually the first bass I ever owned. Sounds awesome, well made and plays great. Highly recommended. I'll never part with mine. -
I'd never heard of this, but it looks pretty good.
Forgive the shameful ignorance, but what does the 'c' in 'CIJ' stand for? Conceived? Constructed? Condoned? Created? Cyril? fatback
The C stands for crafted. Sounds sooo much nicer than made in Japan! I have a CIJ Jazz as well, very nice...

I don't generally learn basslines note for note, but last decided to learn a couple of classics: Green Flower Street and Ruby Baby, both by Donald Fagen from "Nightfly". I think it's 'cos I was watching Steely Dan on Youtube!

Trying speaking to some of the local businesses (Esp. the backpackers hostels) in the area about the place, they should be willing to help. We usually take a week's holiday on Skye about this time, rent a cottage. Skye's pretty quiet this time of year and a lot of the hotels/visitor attractions etc shut down for holiday's/refurbishment etc, simply because there's no one there! I could be wrong though. Because it's just on Skye, maybe it gets more visitors and Kyleakin is a bit of a Bacpacker hangout. If you do go, make sure you consume plenty of Skye Black Cuillin, on tap-Gives Guiness a run for it's money IMO!

Thanks for the thoughts so far guys, given me something to think about.
it might be possible to make the current neck playable by removing the frets and levelling the fingerboard then re-fretting - not a cheap option though
Yep, I Kinda thought that. I guy I took it to a years ago who diagnosed the warped neck and hinted that repair would be neither cheap, easy or even effective. I've just put up with it and played it anyway, but it's got quite a high action which I'd like to remedy. It seems to be warped between the third and fifth frets and as a result you need to have the action really high to stop the buzzing.

Looking for some help please folks. I have a '77 Musicman Sabre with maple neck/Rosewood, however it has a warped neck. It's been like that for some time, but I'd like to get the action lower which I can't do. I've seen the graphite replacement's, which are pretty dear (Wish I'd seen the link to the one on ebay sooner) but no one seems to do wooden replacements, probably to do with licensing. 1. Does anyone know of any aftermarket wooden replacment necks? 2. or has anyone adapted a P-bass neck to fit-The dimensions appears similar? Or Allparts does replacement necks with blank headstocks, which could be shaped into a Musicman shape. Any thoughts?

It's quite a tasty bass part, although it's not my favourite Dan album to be honest. That is except for "Cousin Dupree". Stunning, and one of my top Dan songs now. There's a top drawer version on youtube, from this same set I think.

Does anyone else play a lot of open strings?
kets replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
I never really used to use any other open strings than E, sometimes A. Then about 5 years ago I started playing a lot more guitar, learning various bluesy/country licks where using open strings is the norm. I now find myself using them more on bass because of that. Maybe it's a bad habit? The're obviously handy on fretless for checking intonation though. -

Has anyone mentioned Mo Foster yet? Another awesome bassist, wrote that amazing seventeen wattss book as well. Top stuff!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrLc14NUmqk anyone tell which model he's playing?
He is an awesome player and did some fine groovin' on Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite as well. I believe he used a BB3000s at one point, not sure if that's whats on the vid or not. -
I remember playing through a Selmer treble and bass 50 when I first started playing bass, used for a few gigs and regularly for practices. My old man had it lying around, in fact I think he still does. Wasn't too bad actually, although I do remember it being quite bright. Not sure I would pay anything near £350 for it though, although it might not be the same one you're looking at.
