And this is why i said ‘most desks’ in my first post about this. Ive had maybe 20+ desks over time and not one would allow headphones to be plugged in to a send jack and get a decent level.

Sonicake Pocket Master just arrived - nano size effects processor for £50
dave_bass5 replied to lemmywinks's topic in Effects
I got one for Christmas, but not really got a use for it. I brought the new Valeton GP-50 just before Christmas and also have a GP-5. It seems quite similar to the Valeton stuff. I like the form factor, although not keen on the on/off system. -
Yeah, things have got better, but these days some are more inclined to throw the cable over and expect our drummer to do it. He likes doing all that stuff and it takes the pressure of me.

When we first got our XR18 there was a band member that couldn't figure out why he couldn't plug his mic in to it. The cable was already in the XR18 but the mic end wasnt right. Yeah, he had first plugged the mic cable in to one of the Aux sends, and it took him a couple of mins to figure this out. Get this, he even moved the cable to the next Aux send to try 🤣. This is one good reason why ive put labels on everything.

To be clear, when ive used the term IEM above, im talking about the earpiece's only, not a system that would amplify the signal. Genuinely cant see how a line level signal can power the earpiece's or headphones, but if people say they can i cant argue with that.

I have no idea about your mixer, but when i googled it i got this. You should not plug headphones directly into the aux outs of an Allen & Heath CQ18T mixer. The aux outputs are line-level, balanced mono TRS jacks, designed to send signals to other audio gear (like an in-ear monitor transmitter or a dedicated headphone amplifier). They do not provide sufficient power or the correct impedance for headphones, and doing so can result in low volume, poor sound quality, and potentially damage the output stage of the mixer or your headphones This just explains what i was trying to say. If you have found otherwise then fair enough.
-
No, i mean when they then decide to start plugging things in and tune up etc, you know, an hour after arriving and having a chat etc, or walk off to go to the toilet.

Im in the same boat. Because i have the ‘master’ iPad sitting on my keyboard i get asked to do all the IEM tweaks etc, even though they have all downloaded Mixing staton etc. Its a pain as i will have my IEM’s in so cant really judge (or hear) what others want. I do get it though, its easier for mew as i have an always on connected device, but it still hasnt sunk in that they really need to be doing this at soundchecks first.

I was talking about the headphone outs, not channels or inputs. Headphone outputs have amps built in to them, otherwise you won’t hear much. Normal Aux sends and just passive outputs that you can’t expect to plug headphones in to and hear anything. In fact i didnt say preamp, i said amp. My reply was to the comment about using a zoom LT 12 (IIR you had one?). That has 6 headphone outs so there is no need for any extra amps if you don’t want to use them, so you can plug headphones or IEM’s directly in to it. Hopefully that clears things up

Those are headphone outs, so will already have an amp built in to them. Most mixers dont have those and just use standard passive outs. I sometimes do the same with the headphone out on my XR18, straight in to my IEMS using a long stereo TSR extension cable.

I get the impression that the P-16 comment was about adding more monitor mixes rather than remote operation.

Well to be fair I’m only comparing the two in my post. I’ve never used the WS1100’s. i went through quite a few headphones when we went in to lockdown and settled on the AT’s (twice), but then the 700 pro x came out. I had also tried the 770’s but found them too warm and my ears would sweat too much. I do prefer the sound of the AT’s but find the 700’s easier to EQ. I think our ears get used to whatever we use quite quickly. One plus for me is the AT’s sound very similar to my IEM’s, so i tend to have a familiar sound at gigs.

I got mine last Aug. Best ive ever used.

Ive got the Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X and Audio Technica's ATH M-50X, the AT's have a lot more low end and much more suitable le for making music sound good. The 700X is quiet enimic tuning compared to those IME. Each has its good points. I do tend to use the 700 Pro X a lot more for practicing at home as I can increase the low end without it blooming too much.

Stereo effects pedals that work well with Bass and Keyboard
dave_bass5 replied to SumOne's topic in Effects
You can add a multi switch foot pedal to the Stomp and have them assigned to different blocks. I get what you are saying, i too find the multi FX stuff as being less accessible, but i also realise if im playing with two hands i wouldn’t be messing with knobs anyway. it’s just dining what works for your mind set. Maybe you’re over thinking the need for a long list of effects though. It might not be as long as you think. -
My wife’s U4 had to be exchanged within a month or so IIR. She has had the replacement quite a while now and it’s been fine.

Stereo effects pedals that work well with Bass and Keyboard

First thing that comes to mind is the Helix Stomp. I know there are many other options out these but ive used the Stomp for both bass and keys (not at the same time or even in the same band), and it worked well. Especially good when using the midi function to change Stomp patches with keyboard patches. If you set up a chain of blocks covering the different effects and have them turned off, you can just enable them rather than needing to scroll through anything. This is how the cheaper multi FX like the Valeton's work. -
Can you not do it yourself in whatever app you are using, or do you mean he doesn’t want it done?

Good to hear the MS-02 is up to gigs. I got my singer a set for Christmas. When we set them up at home with the XR18 in stereo, running a virtual soundcheck from the recoding of the last gig, she said ‘and whats the difference from my U4?’ 🙄 We did notice a bit of cutting out as she was handling it. Not signal as such, it seemed the output jack was a bit cutting out. We were using headphones with a chunky jack so i put it down to that.
-
Yep, thats why I already do. Everyone in the band has our network(s) already set in their phones (not that most use it).
-
Yeah, tell me about it. I have 30mins of video from a gig there and not once does ‘Thomas’ look up. In fact he spends 95% of any gig sideways on looking at his bloody amp, like it’s going to run away of something. To be fair though, that shot was taken at sound check so we were just setting things up.

Ah, i didn’t notice that. That’s actually photoshoped as the guitarist behind is always complaining no ever see’s his face 🤣
