  1. Just read this in the manual DC POWER CONNECTOR - Use only good filtered power supplies, with a voltage of 9-12 VDC, with center negative polarity. Use a DC Power Plug Ø5.1/2.1mm, with a barrel longer than 12mm (15mm recommended) So i guess Mine is fine. I just need to find a PSU that has the longer barrel. All mine have shorter ones, although the splitter i have works fine. Hmmm, this means i have a spare PSU connector begging to be used now.
  2. Just received my Comp. Frist impressions are very good. Other than the height of the knobs its actually smaller than the Spectracomp. Amazing size. I plugged in and first reaction was.....its broken. I noticed the meter was flashing and the power light was going on and off as i moved it, before anything was plugged in to it other than the power. When it was just sitting un touched it was fine. The PSU input is very wobbly, but this was with my One Spot, which has a short barrel length. The plan is to use it sitting on my amp, but this wouldn’t work as the vibration would cause noise. Using an adapter at the end of the 1Spot seems to fix this issue. Ill contact them but I think its fine. A bit worried about how long it will last, but I’m sure they know what they are doing. Using it though is a dream. I’m not sure if its just that i understand more what the knobs do, Becos has some very good explanations on thier website, but I found i could instantly dial in the effects i wanted, and see how much it was doing. Even just with headphones and nothing else playing I could hear the changes. Very happy. First time ive been able to get stuck in straight away with a comp. Here’s a photo showing it against the Spectracomp, and my BDDI for reference.
  3. I remember it differently. The prices didnt creep up until later, but it was common knowledge how much of a barging these were, and why, from very earl on.
  4. Well to be fair, i sad nothing special, especially at the price they go for, and added that i wasn't knocking the bass as such, just commenting that for £1000 you can get a lot of bass, so the JV is up there with these basses. Cant think of anything that would make it stand out from the crowd (at this prince point), other than its rep, which was based on it being head and shoulders above the crowd when it was released. Still, if it feels good and sounds good, its got to be worth whatever you pay.
  5. Fair enough, so who sets the cost? Who determined that £1000 is a good price? And why not keep it if its that good? Not trying to start an argument, just replying to your posts as you did with mine.
  6. Na Im not saying the basses are rubbish, but how on earth did they get to £1000 from £199? With so many very, very good bases on the market for so much less i think owning one is just a way to print money. EDIT: Sorry, thats bit off topic. My original point was having owned and gigged oen for a few years, my Squier CV knocks spots off it, and many other P basses ive owned that cost a lot less than £1000. So while they might be 'collectable' that's about it as far as im concerned. We do of course, disagree with that, which is cool.
  7. Well in my case it was just form memory of finding the neck a bit chunky. Could have been the depth. Either way, i found it a bit hard to play. Those JV's are nothing special IME, especially not these days when you can get a lot, lot more for less than the used asking price. Back in the day the necks were the big selling point, but these days everyone has caught up. I really cant see how a bass that cost £199 can go for almost £1000 on some websites.
  8. Ive seen plenty of P basses with a 44/45mm nut. This is what's put me off them over the years, although most of the time ive just put a jazz neck on them anyway.
  9. I think mine was as well. I do recal it being the widest P neck ive ever played. Probably normal For that type of bass, but definitely not as comfortable as other P’s ive owned/own.
  10. Nah, our bands like to keep their clothes on 😉
  11. I had two of these, the 5 string versions though , and still have the normal body version (4 string). I got mine from Music Yo. I seem to be in the minority when i say I love the EMG select pups on these basses. I swapped one of mine for the Honer active version but never though that sounded as good.
  12. These are what’s i need, only in black. https://shop.fender.com/en-GB/parts/tuning-machines/bass-tuning-machine-bushings--standard-deluxe-series-mexico/0051532049.html?rl=en_US
  13. Ive just upgraded the tuners in my Sandblasted P bass to Hipshot HB7’s, as one was bent, and ive always wanted black tuners on it. The tuners themselves went on fine, but the bushings were a tiny bit lose, so didn’t grip when i put them in. I’m sure i could put some tape around them to make them slightly fatter, but i was wondering if anyone knows the correct size i need, and more to the point where to get them (in the UK). Not fussed about brand, as long as they are a tight fit, and black.
  14. I posted this last year but i got a similar one and yes, works perfectly. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01A9500XC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  15. Same here. The live versions are normally where the good stuff lives. My first covers band was about 16 years ago. I had to learn a lot of the (wedding/party) standards quickly, and most were songs i didn't really listen to away from learning them. Gigged them for years. With new band i thought i needed to refresh myself with them, and i cant believe how far off i was. Not that it was ever a problem, but i was shocked that i had missed some of the fundamentals.
  16. Ive had a Gen 1 since they come out. Lovely bass. other than weight i cant fault it. I got a Gen 2 P7 last year and thought it was noticeably better. The neck was a bit improvement IMO. Very comfortable. Unfortunately it had a faulty bridge pup so it went back. Wouldn't hesitate to get another if i didnt have other options.
  17. I work in Hatton Garden, EC1. Don’t have a long lunch break but I could meet by Farringdon/Chancery lane station areas. I finish work around 5.15 - 5.30 most days.
  18. God knows, but when i find it ill take it home. 😀
  19. A real man can be any colour, as can a real woman (or anything made up in between), but the colour of his/her/it's bass will certainly reflect the soul...😀
  20. Real men only need a 4 string P bass.....
  21. You're one string short of being allowed to do that 😉
  22. Same here. Although she does come up with a few un popular choices sometimes. As she is my partner i cant be too negative though.
  23. After all the above, ive decided im sending the GK back and sticking with my Fender Rumble. Its not that i don't like the GK, i really do, but the Fender costs half the price, has less of a growl to it (so works a bit better for older stuff), has the Vintage button which really works well, and overall it just seems to suit the band a bit better. Its also not much different to my MB heads, especially in the mix. If i had more gigs id keep it, but it seems silly having that much money tied up in a head im not using week in week out, and it wont get used for rehearsals as i use my MB200.
