  1. My first (and current Sire) was gigged for almost two years, almost every weekend. Easily 30+ gigs. The P7 was faulty and lasted less than two weeks. Never gigged it, never even rehearsed with it. Was still debating another when the BB425 came up. You know my feelings about the P7 i had as far as liking it. Maybe when we all get back to normal ill try again.
  2. Nice looking bass. Looks wise it matches my V7. Have you tired loosening of the top part of the knobs and re seating them a little higher (if that’s possible)? What’s the neck like? I loved the one i had for a while. Will have to come over when its safer to. Your last statement.....nah, ill give it one gig if that lol.
  3. Maybe i just miss interpreted this statement If you adjust the mids above or below the flat setting it changes the set point for the filters.
  4. Dunno, the blurb is above. Thats as much as i know. I cant see whats special about it.

    Which Helix?

Need to change my vote. I voted for HFX, but now im back to just the Stomp. I dont really need to use effects live, so keeping both seemed silly.
  6. Anyone using or tried one? Looks quite plain to me but wondering if there is something not obvious. There is a short thread no Talkbass. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/mxr-m281-thump-bass-preamp.1443178/ MXR M281 Thump Bass Preamp The MXR Thump Bass Preamp is a tone-sweetening, signal-boosting, and altogether groove-enhancing machine. This pedal was conceived when the MXR design team and our in-house bass players discovered that the Echoplex® Preamp’s sonic secret sauce made for just as delectable a pairing with bass as it does with guitar. Using that circuitry as a foundation, the MXR team added a simple yet potent tone-shaping interface so that you can dial in the perfect bass sound for the stage and the studio. Crafting the sound you need is easy. The Echoplex Preamp circuit conditions your signal with a carefully balanced EQ profile, and this pedal’s tone controls let you take it from there. The Treble and Bass knobs cut or boost frequencies at 8 kHz and 40 Hz respectively, while the Mid knob cuts or boosts the midrange as set by the Frequency knob, from 250 Hz to 1 kHz. This range of frequencies was selected to give players maximum flexibility and minimal fuss when refining their bass signal. Whether you need to punch up a solo, boost your signal in a live mix, or sculpt more edge into the sound of a passive bass, the Thump Bass Preamp packs incredible versatility into an MXR mini housing. MXR M281 Thump Bass Preamp Features: All the tone-sweetening versatility bass players need in an MXR mini housing Combines the Echoplex Preamp with a three-band EQ and mid-frequency adjustment Punch up a solo, boost your live signal, or sculpt a more aggressive edge onto a passive sound https://www.prymaxe.com/collections/effects/products/mxr-m281-thump-bass-preamp?utm_campaign=privy_1156828&utm_medium=email&utm_source=privy&utm_email=%40%40%40%40070AObWOJvOCqJJIGcP295EqGkBKUc%2F4U%2BqkWWUw39MpmEXnzuZKXEuMHpUUbRzLLuJB00A0zquIjjo4tnhdWxhWGSaMSeQO4UTdzxCwOXxTB9jUH4a8wZk0LqEyvumOrxAMAx1zaKV5qtdmUlTEF3nd3uEFCgg9yyoF1jUTeqTZpXs%3D
  7. Thanks for taking the trouble to explain all that. I follow some, phase out at other bits, but seem to have my answer. I was thinking it was more variable in a controlled way.
  8. But T21 said its linked to the Mid controls. I realise the Mid sweep goes down to 40hz though.
  9. Ah yes, i understand that EQ settings will have a knock on effect with others, but im only talking about the preset freq that the HPF is set to, which T21 said moves. I understand the effectiveness of it will change, depending on what its fed, but surely the set freq doesn't change as such?
  10. I thought a HPF was something you set to a certain freq. In the manual it says its preset at 45hz. Sorry, i don’t understand why it would be designed to move in an uncontrollable way.
  11. I’m un following this thread now 😐
  12. Ive seen a few video reviews on this head, but this one is the first that has made me realise how small the head is. Either that or Dan has very large hands lol.
  13. Yeah, i thought that after I posted. Just clutching at straws lol.
  14. Haha, no worse than my posts. Ive tried using the Helix comps, and while i know loads love them I’m finding my Becos to really hit the spot at the moment. Hoping the new comp sim might change that so i can ditch a separate box.
  15. Well the Red box comp i linked to above has been out since 1978 apparently, so I’d class that as vintage, although not hard to get. We will have to wait and see.
  16. I asked this before, but never got a conclusive answer. I wonder if its the Pigtronix comp he used to use. Could be this as well http://whirlwindusa.com/catalog/black-boxes-effects-and-dis/effects/red-box-compressor
  17. Yeah, we know 😉 Shame the Stomp isnt getting the full set of meters.
  18. Just read his on TB. This was posted by Tech21. This is news to me. Did anyone else know about this? 'The HPF/LPF is based on the unit set flat. If you adjust the mids above or below the flat setting it changes the set point for the filters. Try not to get bogged down in numbers as it's a waste of time. Just use your ears and set to what "sounds" good. Much of it depends on the final destination of your sound. Amp, direct, powered monitor full PA system etc. Be judicious with EQ as they also change the phase of the signal.'
  19. That covers a lot of members on here then 😂
  20. Put waaaay better than i did. Thanks for that post.
  21. No, not using a comp (then, i am now, and have done over the years no and off). Never needed it in the past. Saying that, i did experiment with comps in the Helix at the time, but never really got on with them. Never use PA support. Tried a MB800, Quiter BB800, settled on a Fender Rumble 800D (which, being the most vintage proves your point). In fact im sticking with that head for now, pairs really well with my CN212.
  22. Let me know when you are playing at the pub in BG again and ill make more of an effort 🙂 The thing is, im not suggesting the cab is rubbish at all, quite the opposite, it sounds amazing. it just didn't work for me with the band, and i really do put that down to how i play and that i prefer a more coloured cab.
  23. No, although i do use a GKMB800. Thats another thing. I thought the tilt back idea was a good one, but as all my gigs rely on me producing the out front sound as well as on stage, pointing the cab at my ears was painful. The F112 is very clear at close quarters. My comments come from me listening at distance though, not close up. Close up everything was nice and punchy. Maybe a bit too clear, but i could hear every note and string noise. Walk out in the room and i felt a lot of that just disappeared/got covered up by the band. I couldnt really boost the top end as it was bright enough at my playing position.
  24. To be fair i found the cab lacking in mids on a solid floor as well. Ill file it with the BB2 in the 'just not my thing' category, and also put it down to my pick playing. Would you ever consider gigging it again (i believe its only had one?)at a gig were you weren't just using it as a stage monitor? Might give you more of an idea of what it can and cant achieve, and how the Fletcher–Munson curve effects it once its out of your basement. I do get that its a home cab only for you though.
