Not sure how a programmable drive would work on a head like this. Most heads with a second gain structure also use the main EQ settings. Its nice that GK have added the Edge knob, so you do have some control over the drive section, unlike the MB series. you still have programmable drive amount, output and a bit of extra tone shaping. I prefer it this was as i woudl get my tone, only with a boost and a bit more dirt. The MB series has the wobbly knobs as well. Not been a real world issue as far as i can see, but i get that they do feel a bit cheaper than the more solid single use knobs.

Lower price maybe 😂

My guitarist doesn't have one. So thats a Stomp, IEM and a better PA we need to buy instead of a bass cab 🙄

Bit of a review over on TB. This is what was posted. ' OK, I bought one, the 800 Watt version. Quick & Dirty Impressions: - It sounds amazing right out of the box with no effort at all. - The owners manual in my box is clearly not a "final" version, and the descriptions of each knob's feature are pretty unsatisfying. I've been playing bass since dinosaurs walked the earth, and there are quite a few head scratchers in these descriptions. Hopefully they will update this. They could take a huge lesson from Mesa Boogie in this area. - Along these lines, it is going to take me some time to figure out how all of the features work and interact with each other. - The plastic knobs feel a little cheap to me. The "push" engage feature of the controls, gives a more flexible (almost wiggly) feel to the knob. I don't know the mechanics behind this, but no one wants to feel a wiggly anything on their amp. We will see how they hold up. - I tried some of the presets from the demo version, and although they sounded different in my house (different bass, recording interface), they sounded similar and quite good. I used an active, passive and piezo bass, and was happy with the sound using all of them. - When using headphones, there were a couple items that I didn't love. 1) The Standby Switch doesn't work through the headphone send. So even though the light changes from blue to white when you engage it, the audio still comes through the cans. This was an unpleasant discovery when I turned my amp off while wearing my phones and received a squeal/squelch into my earbone. 2) no matter how I set the Trim, Normal and Master volumes for a clean sound, I could hear a low level distortion in the signal. Maybe it was my phones, I will check it out through the speakers and other headphones, and see if I can still hear it. - The Overdrive Channel: It has its own foot-switch and cable which is nice and works well. The thing with the overdrive channel is it is not programmable, so even though I can preset the Overdrive Level, Edge/Cut, and Level/Body settings, I have to use whatever other settings are currently on the rest of the amp. So there is not much opportunity to use the switching to get a very different sound and EQ, just the same sound you are currently using with overdrive added. I honestly am not too crazy about the sounds I am getting from this section, but I am still in a learning curve. But for example, the Level/Body features are on the same clickable knob. So if I want to set my overall output level, I cannot effectively use the "Body" feature because that will also raise or lower the output. So if you like the body level high, your output will be too loud. Yes, I can adjust the master or send volume, but then when I click off the overdrive channel back to the Normal channel, my volume will be too low. I can imagine that I will not get much use out of this overdrive channel, unless I have a eureka moment. - Small item: The Standby light is ALWAYS on when the amp is plugged in to power. It goes off when you go out of standby mode, but when I am done playing and pack up, that damn white light is still shining like a beacon to those lost at sea! I wish I could turn it off. So, still early, still exploring, but I can confidently say that the amp sounds really, really good, is light and portable, looks amazing. It sounds like a GK, has balls, edge and power, and I like it a lot. '

At least we agree about something lol.
-
All that, and the extra expense doesn't seem fair on the rest of the band though. If my guitarist turned around and suggested IEM for us all id tell him where to get off.
-
If i went IEM how would the rest of the band hear me?
-
Takes me over a min (closer to 2 each way) to get down 6 flights of stairs and across the car park to the car, then back up and back down with the rest of the gear. A heavier cab than the one i now have would be a big deal.

You could ask them directly here https://www.talkbass.com/threads/gr-bass-gear-questions.1376653/

Ah sorry, i missed that for some reason. Glad you got it sorted for no outlay.

I got a Fender LT25 Rumble combo for Christmas. Very loud small combo with a digital modelling and Effects front end. Not bad for £145. Ill never get ti turn it up even halfway at home. https://shop.fender.com/en-GB/bass-amplifiers/contemporary-digital/rumble-lt25/2270100000.html?rl=en_US

I got that each one was an alternative, but ive always found my rig took care of most of, if not all the fizz in any OD's ive used, unless i didn't want it to. All the OD's ive owned had EQ options on them and i always found the treble knob to do enough of a job without needed more specialised EQ or equipment. None have had speaker sims or dedicated LPF. I do love the Sansamp BDDI and i know that has a cab sim built in, but i use the blend very low, and don’t actual use that for OD. Totally agree about the PA/DI though, as thats more unclouded when it arrives at the PA and for most a PA will have a lot more top end accentuation. I think ive only used a large PA a handful of times, and that was back when I didn't use dirt at all. I'm quite keen to keep the top end in check anyway, as i play with a pick and dont really like the 'click' i get. I do like an open top end though so the tweeter normally sits in the neutral position.
-
Ok, no problem. Like I said, never found the issue to need those extra steps other than the tweeter down (but thats a default setting for most cabs ive used even with clean tones), but i dont go of high gain anyway.
-
Ok, maybe 'never' was the wrong term as you have covered a lot of points. Why use a speaker sim if you are using a speaker? Cab without a tweeter? Well yeah, you can turn the tweeter down. I never said i didnt or haven't turned the tweeter down. I definitely find OD to be fizzy with headphones, but my cabs seem to tame it. Not that I use much anyway. I just find points 1,2,3 to be not always necessary, although I appreciate they work for you. .
-
Hmmm, ive never used any of those 'tips' and never really suffered from fizzy OD.
-
Ive never used the Fusion line either, but i know a few people that have them. I know they arent as sophisticated as the new Legacy S line, but sometimes i find all those EQ bells and whistles are a bit wasted. The new Legacy S line is bound to sound better though. £150 cheaper and I'd be tempted, as i love my MB heads but could do with a bit more.
-
That more or less describes the MB Fusion 800 head as well, without much of the extra EQ options
-
That's cool, we all like different things. Ive read through the TB thread where the designer has loads of posts. It does seem like its not quite coloured enough for me. After the Quilter 'incident' I think I want something less neutral and flat
-
Not wishing to derail this thread, but this is really appealing to me. https://www.fxpedal.co.uk/amps-c74/bass-amps-c75/gr-bass-one-800-bass-amp-head-800w-white-p3734

Always a good idea. One reason i tend to buy on line a lot of the time.
-
Im sure you will 🙂 Yeah, i like that idea very much. The 800watt head has my attention. it reminds me of a GK in some way.
-
Could do, but as its one string less than you need.......:-)
-
I was thinking that as well, but after buying the cab id only have £100 left. Is that enough? 🙂
-
I would be worried about the 212 running at quite high volume moving across the stage.
