Only the high end Yamahas, the Japanese ones i think, definitely not the low end, but i would imagine after a couple of dozen gigs any bass will be in the same zone. From the Yamaha website Any bass benefits from being "played in," a process in which the instrument matures and opens up as the stresses between the wood and finish, neck and fingerboard, and body and hardware are released, resulting in better sound and playability. Yamaha’s exclusive Initial Response Acceleration (IRA) technology releases those stresses by applying specific vibrations to the completed instruments as part of the crafting process and gives a "played in" bass from day one

IRA is sort of like road worn wood. Not the finish, but the wood itself. It's been treated so its settled already. I personally think its a gimmick, although i can see the logic behind it. I'd rather pay less and not have it. After all, you cant tell what its doing as there are no direct with or without models.

Are you sure the Sennheiser HD 25-1's are in budget? £40 could probably get you used but these sell for around £100.

I would have voted those two as well, but i find my Helix Effects to be more to my liking for live use. -

Puppies aren't good for Metal though...... -
Haha, you on a recruitment drive for Bass Chat 😎

The Ibby is very high on my list, but ill need to play an 18mm one first. I'm sure I can adapt to 16.5mm, but I want to explore a few options first.

Ok, lets keep this short so as to not derail the thread. I dont have the Fearless F112 anymore, i have a Berg CN212. I'm sure you can work the rest out 😉 -

Within the hour all will be revealed. 🤔 -
My uneducated guess would be a 1024, as the bridge looks more substantial.

Just came across this video. The effect actually sounds pretty good with headphones on. Wonder how it sounds with bass. -

Haha, indeed you might be right. Won’t know until the 2nd jan though. Feeling positive though, and going to the gym first 😂 -
Well I struggle get this type of earphone to stay in my ears. Ive gone through about 6 different earphones this year for the gym, and really, really struggled to find a pair that would stay in. In the end only the Apple Airpods/pro would work for me. I tried the ones that came with her system (only a cheap G4M system), and also the KTZ's i got her to replace the stock one;s, and they literally just fall out when i let go. I know i can get custom moulded ones, but really, should i need to go to that expense when i really don't want to use IEM's in the first place. I know the songs, probably more than she does, its just that i need to hear her cues every now and then. I also dont want the hassle of having to mic/DI everything up at gigs. It's bad enough most of the band turn up late and we don’t even get to sound check, this is one more thing I'd have to figure out. Neither i, nor the guitarist have any plans on giving up using loud backline. Our backline provides the room sound. We only have a vocal PA so that cant carry a full band like a proper backline can. Now I realise all the above can be sorted, but at cost, and thats not a practical answer. The singer just wants to her herself a bit clearer when she moves away from her monitor. In no way am I against IEM's, I think they are a great idea, its just not a great idea for my band. I can hear everyone clearly, i know how the songs go so good monitoring is not needed, we only play on small stages so everyone can hear everyone else fine as we are. Sorry, i know that's a long negative post and I didnt want to make it in this thread, but at the present time its just the singer, and maybe the drummer (who does the only backing vocals) that are going to use them to hear themselves a bit better.

Wow, good work. Ive just brought my singer/GF some IEM's, mainly because she asked for them. The above is really good Info. My only concern though, is if she decides to stop bringing a monitor then the rest of the band will need IEM's as well, otherwise we wont hear her. That's not a route I personally want to go down.

I'm still sticking with my Helix Effects as my best purchase, but my new Fender Rumble head is running a very close race. -
Where are you based?
-
What's missing from the above, other than the Zoom, is lack of amp/cab sims. These really make a difference if using headphones. One other thing to consider, you can plug headphones in to the Send without needing anything other than a mono jack adaptor. I'm not sure how the Send/return is configured, if there it a pre/post switch then that would be ideal. It's not the best way to do this, but ive just tried it with my 3 heads and my headphones were more than capable of being used in this way. In fact i use my Helix with headphones plugged directly in to the main outs. EDIT. Just looked at the manual for the MAG and it seems the Send is post EQ, so that means you would more or less get the same as if you were using that Headphone box, although with less control over volume (you would use the input knob to control output as well). Might be the cheapest option if your headphones are sensitive enough.
-
You could use that, but don’t forget that if going to headphones you wont get any simulation of using a real amp/cab. All this will do is to give you the preamp tone, which can sound pretty flat and uninspiring in headphones. I'd go for the B1-On if money is tight, as suggested by Mudpup, and forget about the Ashdown for this sort of thing. The B1-FOur is better but costs a bit more. Either B1 will get you a much, much better playing experience, and who knows, you might even use it through the Ashdown as it has some great effects in it, plus a drum machine.

I don’t mind sponsored reviews. In fact sometimes i prefer them as i know more will be put in to making the item sound good. I look on them not as reviews though, more how it works/see it in action etc, and then make my own judgement. I don’t really care what a 'reviewer' thinks of most things anyway, I just want to hear what it sounds like and what it can do.
