Helix Floor/LT/HX/Stomp/PodGo owners' Club - Tips, Ideas & Patches
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in Effects
Yes, im talking about those two. I like to keep a HPF in the chain to keep the low end a bit clearer if the room is boomy. We rehearse in a room that has a hollow stage area so its handy, and most, if not all of our gigs are on hollow stages. With the Stomp you have it as part of the Global EQ, but with the FX you have to add a block. Both seem to do the trick but im wondering why there are two.Very little info on the Line 6 sims around. Ill let you know about the BDDI later, but in general i keep the EQ part flat, Drive on 6 and adjust the Blend to suit. Normally between 4 and 6. -

Gents, a question about HPF and the Helix stuff. I noticed there are two (not including the Global one) EQ effects that seem to do this. Does anyone have a preference or know of a reason to use one over the other? Just looking to tame a stage so not bothered about the LPF end. -
Can you load 3rd party IR’s in to the amp?

Just got back from my first rehearsal with the FX. It was so much easier to use than the Stomp,, although I still kept hitting two switches at the sam time. I’ll get used to it though. Definitely the right purchase. -
Ah, so thats who it is. I saw this on FB as well.
-
Nope. Your going from a 1x12 to a 3x10 to get quieter? 😎
-
Sorry, it cant be done easily, so.........

The Stomp has a really good selection of EQ's, and would allow you to set up each one for each bass, or even for each venue/bass combo, inc levels Probably over the top, but an option. Total recall every time and with the ability to send the signal to the amp, with a differently EQ'ed signal to the PA. Shame you sold it 😂

Patience and time are things i dont comprehend (see my post about getting the F112 :-). All good fun messing about with things though, and with the FX you can do all the tweaking using your foot, so in real time while playing.

Its too much for me, i dont know where to start. Ive got a headache just trying to chose one EQ block 😐

And a huge amount of EQ adjustment.

Well i have the BDDI sim, plus i dont need or want to emulate the SH1. Having recently brought a new amp i cant see the point of ruining an Amp sim as well, other than as an EQ. As Jack says, there is more then enough EQ options and Pre amps in the FX to cover anything ill need, and as my fav tone is the BDDI im covered for now. I do fancy giving the Ampeg Screamer a go tonight though. -

Thanks. I have a few of those laying around. Ill try and see what i can get out of the FX at the weekend. I'm more than happy to keep both though. I like the idea of keeping all the live gear packed away at home and ready to go, plus the Stomp is smaller so i can keep it near the bed. Other than the Global EQ and built in noise gate in each patch I won't miss the Stomp for live use. The FX does make much more sense for me. Quick question. Is there a quick way to change Presets without using the bank Select mode. What I mean is when I'm editing a patch, and decide i want to start again i find i have to go out of edit mode, in to patch select mode, tap on another patch and then back to the one i was editing. I find i do this on the Stomp as well. I'm sure there must be a shorter way. -

Isn't that in Snapshot mode? If so it's white on all of them. -
Not sure if we have a thread about this, there is one on TB already.

Got my FX today. Very pleased with it. Quite program (did my training on the Stomp), i managed to transfer all my patches over to it from the Stomp manually, no software used. I love how all the effects parameters can be tweaked using just foot switches, so very handy for making adjustments on the fly while still playing. Love the fact that i can see everything at one time. Its a bit heavier than I expected. Not a deal breaker at all, it feels very sturdy. There are a few niggles as far as finding when things are goes, i know what I want but cant find a few of them easily, as they are in different places compared to the Stomp. Cant believe this box is cheaper than the Stomp (I realise it's missing stuff, but nothin gill ever miss). I'm not getting rid of the Stomp though, at least not yet. The FX fits in my gig bag with my amp and leads, so can live there when I'm not rehearsing or gigs, and the Stomp will stay in the bedroom for headphone practice. -
Not sure how slow were are talking here, but i love playing this bass line
-
Just a thought, but with the rear speaker down close to the floor i would think the drummer might have trouble hearing it, especially if you have to keep the level low for the out front volume.

IEM seems to be the current fix for everything these days. We went from AK wanting to buy a cab, to equipping a whole band with IEM's, along with them having no say in the matter lol.
-
I was about to make a mistake for the second time and get another brand. Although i felt the time was right and I would get on a bit more with this cab, @Al Krowvery, very kindly insisted i didnt make the same mistake again, and offered me the F112. I had made an enquiry with Tricky Audio about getting one built, but never heard back (still haven't). Unfortunately AK will never get this cab back, which is a shame considering he waited 4 months for it, and i only waited 4 days 🙂 I love this cab very much. I now understand what others mean when they say it needs a lot of power. Its not a very sensitive cab, and needs the amp turned up a bit more than my previous cabs, but the tone is just 'right'. Seems to love EQ and its the first cab I've owned when small EQ changes can be heard clearly, and when you turn it up the tone doesn't seem to changer much. I think its definitely a better solution over the 310. Oh, and as for Schroeder's 1212L that was mentioned earlier, thats the sledge hammer cab that really doesn't get phased by anything. Second best cab ive ever owned. In fact, maybe joint first. Every the F112 doesnt have the kick that the 1212L has, and its a very handy design. I used to have it upside down so the angled driver would face across the stage. Even my guitarist used to moan he couldn't hear himself. Sorry for the derailment.
-
Sorry Bas, yes it was aimed at you. I just cant see it working with that 10" driver on the floor. If you cant hear yourself or a band member cant hear you you wont be able to turn up, as the out front will be effected. If you happen to be too loud on stage you cant turn down etc etc.
-
How you you balance the out front and on stage volume and EQ?

Cheers Guys. im pretty sure it should be just a case of loading the saved pre-sets in to the new box, but it would sdprobly only take me 5mins to program the FX anyway. I am looking forward to seeing more visual indication as to whats on. The 3 illuminated switches are fine, but its so hard see the other two at a glance as they are just small coloured blobs. My plan is to have the more noticeable effects on the top row, and keep the most used on the bottom row.
