  1. Cheers. Im hoping i wont, im just thinking ahead (:-) ......or maybe its just GAS lol. I do like the idea of the BB802 though, especially how you guys are describing the tone.
  2. Cheers. Im definitely getting to like the sound of this amp. I dont need sparkle, although do like an open sounding top end. Ive got my first rehearsal with my new Fearless F112 this Thursday. Going to use my GK MB800. If i feel this is lacking or too coloured i think ill get a Quilter ordered.
  3. Cheers guys, it sounds like I really should give it a go. I’m only looking to use it as a power amp, so I’ll probably never have a use for the EQ stage, but I do prefer the more conventional 802 over the 800, even though I can understand the 800’s EQ. i play with a pick and quite often find the G and D strings to sound a bit thinner, at the nut end. I’d love an amp that fattens them up a bit and I get the Ashdown reference. Once my BH800 has sold maybe I need to give the BB802 a go. Thnaks for the offer Jon. I’m not really close but appreciate the offer.
  4. Ah, you lost me at Ashdown lol. I get what you mean though. Im going to look in to them anyway, but never a fan of the Ashdowns ive owned. Cheers.
  5. Thanks. I was aware that they use their own power stage, and have seen mention of 'heft', but i see that in most threads. Im am definitely intrigued by this head, especially the BB802 (im aware of its 'failings') compared to the BB800.
  6. Ive seen this amp mentioned quite a lot, and know, it’s got a good rep, but why would you buy this over something else? Is it the size? Just wondering what the advantage would be other than size over another 800watt head as it seems quite limited compared to some other heads at this price point.
  7. I got the above amp from Thomann’s in Jan this year. Ive used it for half a dozen rehearsals but no gigs. I still prefer my GK MB800, but got my eye on something else as well. As with all my gear condition is as expected, as in nothing to complain about, and Ive never had any issues with it. I still have the box etc, and I’ll throw in a TC Electronic amp bag that I got a few months ago (cost £55), and a 3rd party 3 way footswitch that works perfectly to turn each tone print on and off, and mute the head. Collection from EC1 or SE1 only at this stage, as I prefer not to post these things. Pic will be added over the next day or so. Cheers. Dave.
  8. Glad it’s still going well. Never really got on with its replacement, but you have to try eh.
  9. Since getting my Helix Stomp my fav amp sim has been the GK800. Ive never played the real thing, but ironically I’m playing my Stomp through the power stage of my GK MB800. Very, very interested to see, or hear, how different the new heads sound to my MB800. I was going to potentially look at maybe getting a Darkglass head, but GK seems to be intertwined in my live sound already, so........
  10. Ive finally found a use for the send/return block. Ive not been over the moon with the Stomp’s filters, much prefer my MXR filter, but can’t see the point (for me) of using that and the Stomp. My thinking was not about two boxes, but more foot switches to hit. I’m sure it’s all old hat to some, but I hadn’t realised I could leave the filter turned on, and control its on and off using a Stomp foot switch. Brilliant!!!! Ive learnt a lot today by watching Richie Castenello’s videos all day. Although he uses the full size Helix he has some great tips. Love his Band Geeks videos as well. Very talented bunch of musicians.
  11. Very cool looking amps. I’d be tempted to go for the AO just for the colour alone lol.
  12. It’s not always obvious. Ive had the same experience. One side of the stage on the breaker circuit, the other side normal. Unless you are told by the venue you can’t really tell until half the band disappear lol.
  13. I don’t mind playing with a sound limiter, as it means we play at a sensible volume, not dictated by the drummer who has hardly any self control. Some have been a bit of a struggle, the one at Braxted Park in particular, but we have rarely trigged one. id prefer not to have them, but I have found that playing gigs with them seems to keep the ‘can you turn it down’ brigade at bay, especially in the clubs, and stops me having to keep saying it. As long as it’s not set too low. I expect I’m in the minority here but I would never turn a gig down just because of a sound meter, even though I know it’s one more thing to worry about. Sometimes worth talking to the kitchen staff and running a lead from there, as normally they aren’t on the same circuit, due to the fridges etc.
  14. Well i sold my BB2 (which i found did lack mid punch, but i put that partly down to me playing with a pick) and got a Vanderkely 1x15. Couldnt have been happier.....until i got bored with it lol.
  15. Agreed. Growing up we would look on those of the same age as us and doing covers as sell outs, but having played only covers for the past 20+ years i can see why people do enjoy it (other than the money of course). Ive never had lessons, but have learnt different styles of playing over the years, due to having to learn a wide variety of songs. Must admit id like to play some originals now, but dont have the time to write them.
  16. We were gigging too much. Same set (more or less, week in, week out). Morale in the band started getting low and members left. Me and the drummer kept going for a while but he had enough after about a year. If im honest i wasn't enjoying it either, but knew i would miss it if i gave up so kept going. Had good moments still, but the spark was gone. We ended up splitting up and i really, really enjoyed the 6-8 months where i didn't feel i wanted to play. I brought a guitar and started to learn that. I really loved the weekends where on a Sat i didnt have to worry about getting home to go out to the gigs etc. My other passion is photography so that gets me out and about. I did start to miss playing though, and now im back full swing, feeling much more motivated, and i play at least an hour or so almost every night at home. I dont care about gigs as such, we have a few, and thats more than enough now. Bottom line, give yourself a break until you feel you are missing it. Dont force it. It will come back, and as others have said, you need a new challenge.
  17. @Al Krow, . Seeing as i sold my other cab id need to keep hold of this anyway, but i have a feeling its going to be perfect.
  18. Still dont agree. How on earth do you know what feels uncomfortable under my fingers? Ive seen many, many YT videos showing that you bend the string before cutting it. Ive been doing it since day one (30+ years ago). Same goes for string winding. I didnt mean to come across aggressive, but i stand by my comments, there is no one way to set up a bass. Also i have never come across any set up videos showing these two huge mistakes (and mistakes i 100% agree with you about). As for ' Ok, looks like all the videos on the net are completely wrong when explaining you how to fit the strings. That's just unbelievable'. Yeah, totally unbelievable that you have never seen one video that does it properly. Having seen enough with my own eyes i wonder just what your looking at. Again, not trying not be egressive, just responding to you comments based on my own experiences, but take them as you will.
  19. Haha, no, it was me getting a bit of GAS
  20. Agree with hits. I liked the VMTD (first gen) but haven't got on with the other VMT pedals. Tried a AO earlier this year and went 'hmmmm.....'
  21. So briefly, what are these common mistakes that everyone else does? Its not rocket science. Ive been setting my basses up for decades, well before the internet started to tell me i was wrong, and ive never needed to do all that down to that accuracy you say. You make it sound much more complicated than it needs to be. its so easy to get wrapped up in all this and make it sound like a Physics course, where as feel is much more important IME. I have only once or twice set me action to closely follow the radius, and it felt wrong. Not saying you are giving out wrong info, but i dont agree it HAS to be done like.
  22. I always adjust the truss rod under tension. It’s only very small increments and it means you get almost instant results. In this video, and most others, they are aiming for a certain amount of relief. Once they hit the target that’s it, they move on to adjust the action. It’s not always that straight forward and you can go back and forth, but the idea is really to just get a certain amount of relief, and then set the action.
  23. Sorry, i missed this. Will give it a go tonight. Ive not done any splitting yet, but i have been meaning to try something. Im not quite sure how this will work though, as i want to use the BDDI always on, but kick in the drive when needed. Also keeping the Chorus and whatever 3rd effect is at the end. So far backing the Blend off a bit has cleaned up the dirt if that makes sense.
  24. haha, might have well be Halloween, some scary noises coming from those guys.....
  25. Id love it to be BDDI instead of the us al VTBass section. Cant see that happening though.
