Anyone tilt the top cab in a stack for monitoring purposes? And how?
dave_bass5 replied to DylanB's topic in Amps and Cabs
I get what this thread is about, and can see why its needed, but something about this isnt clear to me. When i use my rig as the only source, so no PA support, i have to have it loud enough to get out in to the room etc. Not a problem, i can just turn it up, but how does this work if you have half your stack facing your ears? If i was to put my head in front of my cab id either blow my ears out, or at the very least not hear my guitarist on the other side of the stage. Maybe the above is an over exaggeration, but the question is, dont you have to turn down once the cab is aimed at your head? If so how does that effect the out front mix if you aren't using a PA for support? -
Im about to (possibly) order a BB2, it will be my second one. I know ive not been completely complementarity about my old BB2, but i feel i need to give it another go. On the BF website the cost for a cover is about ££80. Looking on the Roqsolid website it seems they do a cover for £40 (which i had one before). Does anyone know if there is a difference? Is the one from BF better? Its quite a big difference cost wise.

If anyone is interested, there is a caramel BB1024X for sale in the Bass players market UK FB group. £475 ono. I want a 1024 but this one looks a bit too shiny for me.

Dunno what to do to be honest. For now it’s going nowhere though.

That’s a really nice bridge. Reminds me of a Gotoh 201, my fav bridge. Definitely a good idea to steer away for a BA2 IMO. Nice bridges but the ones I’ve had have changed the tone a bit too much. Since getting my P34 a couple of months ago (and now getting to warm to it a bit more) I’ve thought the fretboard looked a bit pale, like its was too dry. As the Bass was brought new I figured it’s part of the Yamaha ageing/worn in ‘magic’. I found a bottle of F-one oil in a draw this evening and figured I had nothing to lose. A couple of applications later and oh my, what a lovely deep rosewood board I have . It looks so much more classy now. Strange that a new bass, made only last year needed this, but I’m glad I did it.

Yes, I used to do the same, although I preferred to use a a few other apps instead of GarageBand. The one I have has Ashdown and GK sims in it. I gave up on using that way to practice, mainly as I never felt the tone was as good as a stand-alone sim, and it was a bit more hassle making quick adjustments. I also noticed a bit more latency.

By the time they get to 12 they will be master builders, to rival any of the big name ‘boutique’ builders 😊

Haha, very Prince!!!

Had a very enjoyable gig with the P34 last night. First proper gig with it, along with everything else that is new since the last gig, including the rig and Stomp. Horrible acoustics, very boomy stage so certain notes were very loud. Having the bridge pup helped cut through though. Very happy with how the P34 felt strapped on.

The P34 won’t be much different as they use more or less the same materials and hardware. Obviously a bit different, but IMO not as much as the cost difference.

Sorry, I’m sure this has been asked already, but does anyone know of an extension cable for the PSU that comes with the Stomp? I’m finding the supplied cable a bit short.

Strange that we all admire 10 year old's that can play bass well, but not those that can make them........😎

Sorry, been hanging around the Christmas cracker factory too long. I found a photo on my phone of the back of the headstock. I always do that so I have a visual record of the serial number. April 2018 is the correct answer. Cheers, , I’m sure the P34 will do well tonight, not sure about the band though 🙂

Haha, i was joking. Bass is in the car, I’ll check it tomorrow.
-
My P34 hasn’t been made yet. 😳
-
Yep, I’ll post back tomorrow. I too am interested in comparing the two, going the other way. Might pop in to the Yamaha shop at some point.

Just liked and followed. After all my moaning about my P34 last week, I’ve decided to use it for tonight’s gig. After spending all that money it needs to do at last one proper gig.

Normally after a visit to this website 🙂

Sue Ryder comes to mind here. Anyone remember those?

The orangery at Blenheim palace, and the American hanger at RAF Duxford are two that spring to mind. Very, very live. a few years ago we played a large village hall. Stage at one end and what sounded like an identical band playing at the other. Rather than the usual cavernous reverb, there was a definite slap back echo that was very off putting.

Oh yeah, amazing player. I wasn’t aware it was a guest spot, so I can see now why it didn’t quite fit. Still a great clip though.
-
Ah, but I never said ‘want’. Totally different thing and much more enjoyable 😁
-
But they are each a different ‘one’, and I only want one ‘one’ lol.

Saw It Bites quite a few times in the early days, might look out for the jan tour. Sounds great but didn’t like the first guitar solo. I felt it sounded out of place. The second one was cool, but I’m not really a fan of solos.

That’s a good review, sounds like a great night. I’d love to compare the 434 to my P34. Agree you don’t need to spend too much on gear to get the perfect tone. What I do feel is its quite often (at least for me), its room or mix dependent. Ive had the perfect tone with every bass ive owned, Ive also had such a crappy tone Ive sold each bass/amp etc. I was sitting going back and forth with my P34 and Fender last night, can’t decide what to take to the gig tonight. Each feels like ‘the one’ . I’m so temped to take my Fender but I know I’ll feel guilty leaving the P34 at home. Very tempted to get a 434 to replace the P34, the I wouldn’t feel so bad if i didn’t use it much. A lot of the songs on those set lists are songs we do as well. Tonight we are doing Lonely Boy with me doing the pitch bending guitar bits on Bass. At least the stomp has one use lol.
