No, I went over it with them in the dressing room. It was all good on the night. They still play that version to this day.

Wasn't sure if i should post this as we weren't on form that night, but what the hell. Shot with my GoPro clamped to the PA speaker stand, with audio from a digital recorded at the front of the stage. It was an interesting gig as i hadn't played live with the drummer and guitarist before (who you cant really see), and our old drummer on backing vocals.
-
Just remembered about a gig i did as a dep a few years ago. I had played with this band a few times so knew their set and versions etc. We were asked to play Cant take my eyes off you as a first dance, as the B&G had a routine worked out. play it at the same tempo as the original etc. Band agreed, it was on their play list anyway. When B&G left the room i pointed out that their version was nowhere near the version they were asked to play. they had 3 solos, and an extra repeated verse in it. Quite funny seeing the blood drain from their little faces when they realised they didn't know how it should go. Just as well my band did a straight version of it. We were in the middle of nowhere so internet either.

Well know im special lol. Every band ive been in ive put 100% in to it to make sure im not the one letting us down. Im not saying im always spot on, far from it, but i make if i say ill do something i will. As a group that agrees to do something i think it fair that you dont let others down. That shouldn't sound as heavy and intense as it comes across though, 🙂

Ha, i was going to PM you about mine this weekend. Glad your sorted now though.
-
Yep, i had that rep in my old band. Thing is until i came along (we were mates before but I hadn’t had any contact with them for years) they had one pub gig every 3-4 months. I became the pain that woudld keep motioning about mistakes and lack of tightness, and i pushed and pushed until we were good enough to get on agents books. The band lasted 13 years, and at our peak we were doing 50+ functions a year.......and still I was never happy lol. Even right to the end they would say that we go down well enough so its all good. No need to learn new songs as we have enough etc etc. But they would eachmoan about the others behind thier back, but i was the only one that would just come out and say it, and It helped a lot.

When he stops talking and rambling, which seems to take him a long time to do.
-
Nah, thats way too long a sentence for them to write 🙂 Actually none of the guitarist have been sacked for that, they just weren't any good. The drummer mainly pushed for those to go. One said he knew all the songs before he joined, but then realised he knew 'different versions'....of every song 8-). Even though he had the play list for a few weeks before coming along he was so lost it was embarrassing. He could play, but somehow chose not to play any of our songs. Should add, im not the one running the band, im just the one that speaks up when the rest all pat themselves on the back because we managed to get through a song.
-
Not me, i'm perfect lol. Yes, i make allowances for it, and its not something that would driver me to leave a band, but still annoying.
-
Its not just this band, its all bands ive been in. its not often, but i just cant get my head around people that do this. GF is included in this, so you see my predicament lol. But yes, we are slowly replacing the other members. Gone through 4 guitarists in the past 2 years, and now have a new drummer (ironically our old drummer from a few years ago). Im probably the send least talented member of the band, but definitely the most dedicated.
-
Cheers. The current singer in my GF, so i put up with the struggle as i really cant be bothered to find somewhere else to live lol. Sometimes i think its just me being picky, but what gets to me more is the attitude from the others that it doesn't matter, it will be fine. We just got rid of our drummer of 2 years, as he was always playing the songs wrong (as opposed to just making the odd mistake), Id had a long stint with him making mistakes, and at his reply was always 'well, how do you want me to play it' i pointed out quite a few times that i was the bass player........

Sounds like the film Rock Star.
-
Yeah, that's them. I know of the film but never seen it. i just love their version of that song. Strangely it was on Spotify but now its not, so that makes it hard for those who cant be bothered clicking on a YT link to get to grips with it. This is just one of many instances of course. Yep, definitely CBA most of the time. Its hard to keep the enthusiasm going when we have to keep going over stuff ive already spent time going over at home or at previous rehearsals. we get there in the end but it can sometimes be a struggle.
-
Oh dont get me wrong, we all know what version we are aiming for. I send links via text and email etc, more than once. ive added the version to our play list that i keep up to date. They turn up knowing we are doing a certain version, but have been too lazy to listen to that version, quite often because its not on Spotify, so just go by the first version they come across and then have to have the stops etc explained to them. Then its 'right, ill go away and have a proper listen for next time'.
-
i have a big issue with my lot (and the previous lot) not learning the same version. We like to scour YT etc and see alternative versions of some songs. Nothing drastic different, but different none the less. Ever fallen in love by the Stiff Dylans for example. We get to rehearsals and half of them have just gone by the original. 'its more or less the same innit?'. This happens a lot and gets very frustrating.

Function bands. How not to look like catering staff?
dave_bass5 replied to uk_lefty's topic in General Discussion
We always used to wear suits for Social clubs, functions and weddings etc. We had them on in our publicity shots and we woudl get based on what the customer saw, so it made sense to keep with that image unless asked not to (happened a few times when they wanted a more rock look) Never had any 'waiter' issues in over 600 gigs. -
Hopefully they will be more wildly available soon. Ill personally wait until i can get it from one of the usual places. i dont like dealing direct with overseas companies if i can help it.
-
Cheers guys. I do have a proper fret rocker somewhere, i just cant find it at the moment. Like i say ive not exhausted the fault finding yet, but i have a feeling ill let a pro do the fixing if it needs it. Ill only mess it up.
-
Thanks Gary. I might take you up on that. Still got a few tweaks to do but, if they don’t work ill be in touch.

Ok. Cut down was the wrong word, but to me it looks just like another Charecter pedal, all be it with a twist. Ive always thought Geddy’s tone came from his fingers, playing style and action on his basses. After all, what did he use to use before the preamp came out that gave him the same tone. Still could be an interesting addition to the ranger i guess.
-
Ive been following the Talkbass thread about this. I cant see why this is being released. It doesnt even have XLR out. Looks like a cut down VTBass.
-
Anyone have any thoughts about this little comp? Pretty sure it wont be liked by those who need full control over everything, but it appeals to me as its quite simple, but with a bit more real time control compared to my Spectracomp. Also Has a dedicated blend knob on the side. https://becosfx.com/product/compiq-mini-pro-compressor-pedal-for-guitar-bass/

Amp arrived today but it has a screw loose inside. Its rattling around and I’d be worried about it shorting something out, or that something hasnt been secured properly, so its going back. Sounded ok on headphones, although when i compared it to my GK MB800 I realised just how bland it sounded. If i had liked the tone better i woudl have got a replacement, but i cant see a reason to replace the GK at the moment. Forgot to add, the active/passive switch is back to front on mine as well. Not a biggie.Plugging my P bass directly in i couldnt get the peak ligh tot come on at all in the right mode. Slapped the hell out of it and nothing. Changing modes the red LED popped on with the gain only just on, although it didn't sound distorted. The Thrust light was on all the time if the switch was engaged. Quite a poorly made product IMO.

Thinking of getting Tech 21 BSDR SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2
dave_bass5 replied to cisco's topic in Effects
ive used a BDDI for years, but more as a warming thing rather than anything aggressive. The VTBass DI (i prefer this over the normal version) sounds like it will do the job for you, especially with a GK head. -
Thinking of getting Tech 21 BSDR SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2
dave_bass5 replied to cisco's topic in Effects
Can i ask what the Tech 21 BSDR SansAmp Bass Driver DI V2 is? I assumed it could be the BDDI but then the reference to a smaller version threw me. EDIT. Ok so its the BDDI. Never seen it called that before other than at GAK. I love mine, but have to agree its not quite ideal for the JJB tone, at least not on its own. I'd suggest the VTBass, its a lot livelier. I used to love playing the intro to Peaches using that.
