i wouldn't be in a band where i couldn't book gigs because people wouldn't get back to me. T I get that you have a busy job and cant be seen tbe using your phone in front of the students, but IMO there is no way a band can really function if someone cant take 30 seconds out of their day to respond to a possible gig date. I cant see how a short text is not possible during the day. You must have toilet breaks/lunch breaks etc. Im not taking sides with anyone, just pointing out that the above can make it very hard for someone who wants to book gigs and i can understand his frustration.

Cheers John. Makes sense. I checked my PSU and its the same as yours. Interesting how some shops have the correct one and some dont. -

Hi john. Without stating the obvious but using the level control you can set the SD to unity gain. Obviously there will be a difference on and off because of the EQ used, but you can still get fairly close to volume a good volume balance. In fact ive not managed to get the off state anywhere near the on state volume wise. Can i ask if you got a 3 pin PSU or 2 pin? I forgot to look at mine from Guitar Guitar (ill do it when i get to work), but the one i got direct from TCE earlier this year, which they said was the correct one, was a proper 3 pin plug with no slide off option for EU type plugs etc. -
Also good to know is that my new unit shows that the earlier one was faulty. The headphone out is dead silent until the OD is engaged, exactly as it should be and how my first unit worked. Very happy now.
-
I had one of the first, if not the first, in this country, and that was fine, so its not an early batch issue. Ive sent it back and have another one coming from Guitar Guitar on Friday. Hoping its better. It is a very good DI out. The tone is strong and clear.
-
Bas. a). Mine must be faulty as my first copy was dead quiet. The main out and DI are also quiet so its just the headphone out. its not loud as such, but you just know it shouldn't be there. b). If mine doesn't go back tonight ill hook it up to my ipad but im 99% sure its a NO.

Some look very interesting. Hopefully they will keep to their low pricing policy. http://www.joyoeffectpedals.co.uk/blog-section/New-Gear-JOYO-R-Series-Guitar-Effect-Pedals No GAS here though, just a head up.

I just opened mine. This came from GAK. As with my first one from G4M there is no UK power supply. Just one of those multi ones with two pins. When i got my first one i emailed G4M and they sent me an official UK TCE PSU free of charge. Its not a big deal, just thought id give you a heads up. Im going to email GAK anyway to see what they say. -

My (2nd one) arrived today. Im quite eager to try the newer tone prints for the drive, especially the Clean boost and Morecow. The first time around i didnt use the Drive as they didn't sound any good, but looking at the YT vids last night it seems things have got a bit better. Might even out my COG 66. -

Bas, i keep saying it, the Zoom B1on is what you are looking for. Yes, its like a toy but it will give you most, if not all your B3n tones, runs off battery etc and costs around £42. Borrow mine and see if you like it. In fact borrow the SD as well if you want. Agree that it doesn't have a DI, nor would you really wan to use it live, but as a cheap carry anywhere headphone amp i really dont think it can be beaten. The BDDI is a keeper, thats 100% (and thats not BC 100% lol). I may never need it but its my get out of jail card. I know it well enough to know that if i only use one box, thats the one. -

No, i meant that you cant run it off batteries. just pointing that out to Bas as he was talking about using it as a portable headphone practice amp. He will also need a PSU if its not going on his board. -

Exactly. When i had it first time around i liked it, but couldn't fit it on my pedal board along with my BDDI. It seemed silly to keep it but not use it, especially at the launch price. Now i have a bigger board and the cost is a lot lower. Win-Win (even more so for you when i sell it lol) Just remember its main's powered only, so you also need to carry a PSU around with it. -

Yeah, me. A moment of madness, or maybe im now ready for it. Damn you Basschat.... -
Good idea. Ive had two MB cabs over the years, and I didn't find either worked well for me. They both lacked punch and presence, at least in a band context. Changing the cab first will get you a more noticeable tonal change IMO. Having rehearsed in various studios over the past 18 months, and mostly using whatever cabs they have there i noticed the cabs had a huge impact on my tone, no matter if i used the F1 or GK MB800.
-
Yeah, the spectracomp feature is what is making getting a BH very, very temping. Ive taken mine off my board but ive often wondered what it would sound like at the other end (amp end) of the chain. I doubt ill ever sell it but the BH heads will get you close 🙂
-
No problem. Ive always thought this about MB. Really nice solid tone but more like a blank canvas. I cant remember ever not using something like a BDDI in front of it, no matter what bass im using at the time. ive used various cabs over the years with them, and had a LMII, LMII, SA450 and the F1. All sounded pretty much the same to me, although obviously the F1 is the odd one out. I tend to use my GK MB800 more these days, and there is a world of difference, but i do find the BH heads very, very tempting. I got the F1 off Clarky years ago. I was supposed to be trading it for my Streamliner 600, but ended up just buying the F1 as i couldn't decide what i wanted.
-
Same here. Ive used MB heads for years, but ive always found they sound better and more lively with a pre amp in front of them. I do think they lack character, or at least one that i like. I doubt ill ever get rid of my MB F1 head, but having tried other heads during the time ive not been compelled to go back to MB except for the fact that i think it looks really cool. Ive been looking in to the BH550 or BH800 head (also red, liek my F1) and i except ill get one at some point if i keep gigging. I love the smart EQ system. I had it on the Spectradrive and found for the first time i had a musical EQ rather than keeping it mostly flat on the MB heads. might be tempted to pick up a BH250 for non gig situations. Then again, i have a Q/Strip so EQ isnt really something i need worry about on the head.

My drummer is like that. He gets very annoyed when asked to play quieter. In fact he has explained that you cant play drums quietly and make them sound good. Got annoyed when i said well one out of two would be good. 🙂 I refuse to turn my bass up when they moan they cant hear me at rehearsals, but i know if i dont at the gig the mix will be very drum heavy. Dreading his first gig with us on Friday. Its a rugby Club and i know its a low ceiling hard shiny floor. We will be using our own small PA which is waaay more than we need for this place, but i have a feeling the vocals just wont get heard as clearly as they should.

Amazon do them.
-
i too have the Mojomojo but doubt ill ever use it again. Its nice but it sounds a bit tame for what i want.
-
Been re thinking what i need recently, and have decided on these few. I intend to replace the Helix with a SA Lunar, so ill have chorus and Phaser in one box. My BDDI will now not be used as always on, as I’m trying to get away from using it. The COG is sounding nice and the first Chanel will now be my always on, and the second with higher gain will give me my dirt. Compressor has gone, and no one has writing any stern letters to me yet.....
-
Totally agree. I too have the AS and while it seems to do it all i find the Joyo UD just does what i want without the need to fuss around with programming. I also find the UD has a more lively tone without any loss of punch. It just seems more lively and bigger, without sounding too wild. Also agree that drive knob is very dangerous. I dont think ive been over 9 o’clock with mine,. I have replaced it with a COG 66 but the COG doesnt quite have the same tone. Still very usable though. Just shows you don’t have to spend a lot to find ‘your tone’.

Even then, the sound for the SD channels can often sound very different to the mix or output in Dolby Digital. Quite often switching between Sd and HD can show quite a big difference in audio, and not just the quality.
