    I’ve been asked by another band member to recommend some cheap IEM’s. budget is under £50. He doesn’t like the KZ ZS10 as they feel too bulky. They do slightly smaller ones. Anyone got any thoughts? Still loving my IE400 pro. Singer now using the IE100 pro I originally brought.

    Have you tried the comfort series? I’ve just switched to these as they are fatter. I get a better seal without needing them too far in.

    It’s more the fact that him and the bass player share a wedge monitor, and he is putting the bass player off (plus drummer as it spills across the stage. I hid his mic once, but one of the others (without realising what I had done) found him a spare 🙄 Another blessing for IEM’s. I’m in my own world back there and it all sounds great. Before getting the XR18 I used to have my own desk feeding just my Keys and an ambient mic to my IEM. That was fine, but now i get enough spill from the other mics that I don’t even need that.

    Does that tape work on mouths as well? I know a guitarist that insists on setting a mic up for BV’s, but really shouldn’t…😂😇

    Can’t comment on those, but as someone with flat ears and have always had issues with the right coming loose, I now have no issues with the IE100/400 pro. These are slim enough to actually hook in to my ear, which seems to be the key. I’ve commented about the sound above.

    As someone who had (twice), and didn’t like the KZ I’m now using a single driver IEM and it sounds so much better. Even Dawn (who is using KZ 10’s) is getting a pair of the IE 100 pros, and our guitarist who was using (don’t laugh) wired ear buds he got with a phone has tested the KZ, MEE and the IE 100 pro, and guess what he is getting ? In fact the IE100 sounds better than my MEE’s which have 3 drivers in them. The IE range are very small and fit snugly in my flat ears. That in itself is worth the asking price.

    Just had a rehearsal with my new IE400 pro’s. Not sure what to make of them. They sound great, but I struggled to get a good seal. I took 4 different pairs of tips and i did finally settle on an old pair of those bulbous shapes Comply tips that didn’t really work with my MEE’s. They worked fine in the end but they are slightly larger than the IE100, and over £200 more expensive. I guess I’ll keep them. I’m sure I’ll get used to them. At no point did they feel like they were coming loose, which is the whole point of them. It’s just that the slightly inferior IE100 is a lot cheaper and also does the job. 1st world problems lol.

    Most YouTube videos for the XR are based on the official app, and I found that they were easier to follow over the handful of old android phone videos for MS. For me the XR18 was a new concept, so having to learn a very comprehensive bit of hardware and software at the same time gave me headaches lol. At least with X-Air it’s all laid out by default. I’m ok with MS now, more or less, but will hopefully go back the X-Air once it’s more usable on my iPad (yes, I’m all up to date, it’s still not 100% though). For now we are all settled with MS though, and the others are using their phones so it makes sense that I stick with MS so we are all working with the same layouts.

    I went straight in with mixing station when I got my XR18 last month, and found it much harder to figure out. It’s fantastic once you get to grips with it, but the learning curve seems much higher than the stock apps.

    We switched to a XR18 in June and i couldn't be happier. Its made a lot of things much easier, and the ability to set the levels while standing at the bar is a game changer 🤣. I can now take IEMs a lot more seriously, and ive had two members of the band practically convert to IEM’s since getting it.

    Second gig of the weekend done. Tonight i put the silicon tips back on the IE100’s and they worked really well. Cant say i noticed much difference between these and the memory foam tips the previous night. Isolation was maybe a bit less, but the playing area was larger so this helped me hear the pout side world a bit better (my ambient mic is on my side of the stage). Never thought id find a IEM where i could use the stock tips. Cant wait to get the IE400’s on Monday, mainly to see how well the Sennheiser foam tips work. The IE100 comes with a M size, but its too loose.

    Gig done. Blown away with the IE100’s. Never budged once. No complaints about the sound either. So much so that ive ordered some IE400’s. Arriving Monday. Strangely WEX were the cheapest. . As long as the fit is the same, my quest has finally finished, and well under budget.

    Just sound checked with the Sen IE100 Pro……..wow!!!!. They are just small enough that i can hook them in to my ear. I had to put the memory foam tips that i had on my MEE’s on them, but then they were rock solid (at least for the soundcheck). The right ear still felt a bit looser than the left, but i could tell the grip was there and they wont budge unless i caught the wire on something. The tips im using are the Sonicfoams, which are slightly shorter than the Comply’s. This helped me get them in to the outer ear. I did try a set of Comply’s that i had with me and they fitted well enough, but not quite as good as the much cheaper SF’s. Isolation isnt as much as a custom fit, but for me it’s enough. I could hear me clearly and above the rest ob the band. Loads of headroom by the sounds of it. Considering these are only single driver and cost me £79 im blow away with the sound. Instantly preferred them to the 3 driver MEE’s i have been using. Stereo spread is really nice, especially considering reviews say the soundstage isnt great. Now i have to decide if i should keep these and thats it. Send them back and get the IE400’s (same fit, better sound apparently), or spend even more on customs. I know some will say this is just putting off the inevitable, but id rather not spend £500+ if i can spend half that and be happy. I’ll see how the gig goes. If they stay put then i see no reason for customs at this stage.

    Think I might give this a go over the weekend. Just got some luminous labels and I do keep a UV torch handy at gigs.

    Same. I also wasn’t keen on how they sounded. My Singer uses the old version and I had the + version for a while. Too big and heavy for my flat ears, but also too bright and open sounding for me. I felt the same with the 4 driver MEE that I had for a short while as well, so I’m stating to think I don’t need too many drivers to get the vibe I want. I also have great EQ on the IEM amp if needed anyway. I was at the gym last night when It dawned on me that my AirPods stay put, with just the stock silicon tips. The difference is they are lodged in my ears and not just relying on the tip to hold hem in. So I went looking for a more shallow profile IEM that I could try. The Sen IE100 seemed like it might fit the bill (or ear).

    Ah cool. Thanks, I’ll have a look at those tonight. Not heard of them before (but then never heard of any of these until I started looking). Got a gig tonight and I’m trying out a set of Sennheiser IE 100 Pro. These are only one driver and cheap, but if they fit ok and stay in I may send them back and get the IE400 pro instead (if they sound ok I might keep them). My thinking here is the IE100 is a shallower profile and slighter than my MEE’s, and might fit my ears better. I need something I can get into hook in rather than sit proud of my ear. They are arriving today so I’ll take them straight to the gig, along with my MEE’s of course.

    I actually did this just after posting and have now had dialogue with him. Still not sure i like the idea of having to use a social media platform and have emails ignored, but maybe thats just the way he works.

    Ok, so another inquiry to Lugs yesterday using a direct email has got me no where (although it’s not been 24 hours just yet). Maybe im too impatient lol. So another brand ive just noticed is Cosmicears. I quite fancy the CE3P, which is at the top end of my budget. Anyone using these?

    We had one rehearsal where me and the singer we facing the rest of the band. They only use small amps but it was a small, long room. I was a shocked by the sound pressure level when I took my IEM’s out. Now I use them all the time. I have tried the AirPod pro and was surprised at how much they attenuated the sound, but then I couldn’t hear myself. It’s funny but when I was playing bass I never had this issue. I guess I was always standing to the side of the drums and guitars and so never had the full force aimed at me. This is why I now stand at the back in my own space.

    Can I ask what you all moved on to? Ive given up trying to find the perfect foam/silicon etc ear tips so I’m committed to getting customs now. I’ve set my budget to £500 max (inc getting the impressions done).

    Having backline on a small stage is the reason I went for IEM’s over a monitor in the first place. Im amazed at how many times my Apple Watch alerts me that the ambient sound level is above 90db. At rehearsals it’s gone above 100db a few times. Luckily I stand at the back, behind the backline most of the time, but it’s quite noticeable when one ear starts to come loose. Always the one closest to the bloody drummer lol.

    Yes, I think that’s my situation as well. They are very new to the 21st century way of doing things. Had things done for them in the old line up and didnt really get the experience of doing things themselves. Even down to taking a PA speaker off a stand and collapsing it took two of them to work it out at the first gig we did with them 😂

    It is nice being able to standardise the cables now. Other than the instrument cables it’s all XLR, even the monitors. Made life a lot easier as I don’t have to tell them what cables to use.
