  1. They don’t quite look the same but this might help https://www.talkbass.com/threads/what-is-the-difference-between-these-schroeder-cabinet-line.844625/
  2. We supported Showaddywaddy at Butlin's about 8 years ago. Really good gig for us. Before we went on our guitarist had gone over and got chatting to one or two of them at sound check. When we were watching them he said he didnt recognise the guys he had spoken to,. Turns out the road crew did the sound checks and they turned up much later to go on. At least he tried.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I normally use dbx160 - BDDI - DG B7K. That's all i need in my B3n for home use. Occasionally i need to turn the overall volume up or down, in relation to the ipads volume level, and on the B3n there is a dedicated master volume knob, rather than doing it at patch level. Not a deal breaker though. As i wont need more than one patch i guess i could duplicate it a couple of times at different levels.
  4. I just ordered one of these to replace my B3n for home practice. Being able to power it off batteries will mean less wires. I only use one set of sounds at home and it looks like the B1 has more than i need. Can i ask if it has a volume knob that only effects the B1 tones (i will read the manual before it arrives).
  5. Cheers. i just looked this up and it looks quite cool. Appreciate the lower quality of sound, but quite handy.
  6. How does that work with playing along to MP3’s? Does it have an aux in?
  7. Why not just play the MP3 file outside GB? They can play in the background (or foreground) while using GB as an amp sim.
  8. 41mm for a P bass, 38mm for a Jazz, or anything up to 41m i guess. Funny thing though, i can play a 5 string with a 45mm nut fine, but really struggle with a 4 string with that nut width. I think part of it is string spacing as well.
  9. That first iRig was awful, but the later ones also use the Lightning port.
  10. I gave one away last week on here. It was a Gear4music one, only cost about £38 IIR. Seemed to offer good protection and wasn't too bulky as far as carrying via the hand strap, but too bulky and heavy for me to put on my shoulder. I only got it to keep two basses in storage but it ended up taking up more room than two separate bags. I also used to have a Fender one that was nice but again, shoulder use was definitely not recommended, especially with that case as the metal U ring at the top would all but crack my collar bone.
  11. I do it two ways. One way is i use my iRig HD interface that plugs in to the ipad via the Lightning connector (NOT FireWire). The bass just plugs in to that and you don’t need any power leasd etc. Using something like GarageBand to give me amp sims I can then play along to any music/videos on the ipad. Works well and is the neatest option IMO. You still have all the slowing down features, as long as you have the right apps. There is a small latency but ive not found it to be an issue. I have found getting the right balance between bass (especially clean bass) and the music to be tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it it works really well. It also works well with my iphone and has been handy for working out songs at gigs backstage. Mostly these days i use my ipad in to my Zoom B3n via the headphone out, and plug my bass in to that as well. Then take the combind audio out fo the B3n via its headphone out. This seems to work better for me as i have more control over the bass tone/volume. More wires of course and the need for a plug.
  12. When we have done these its gone 3 ways. We have been asked to arrive and set up before people arrive, so a very early get in, and a very long day. On the other hand sometimes the venue have to turn the room around (getting rid of tables etc) after the day time stuff and wedding breakfast, and that's another time the band can get in. It helps to be able to set up and sound check as fast as possible when its like this. We tend to unpack as much as we can and start putting things like the kit together before we load in if possible. Worse case for us is when you are asked to set up during the wedding breakfast (and speeches), but dont make any noise. Oh, and check with the venue or wedding party to see if they expect to use your mic for the speeches. We've had a few where we were told to arrive after the speeches etc, only to be moaned at because they wanted to use our mic's FOR the speeches. Just smile and be polite :-)
  13. What if a gig came in and you couldn't get hold of someone to confirm they could do it, or they were already gigging on that date? I know the ad says 5-6 gigs a year but i would expect the band would want to be able to play them.
  14. Isn't their requirements exactly what any add should state? Do any of us want to be in bands that have members that fail on all three points?
  15. My first ever pedal board. I thought I’d get a cheap one as I was using a couple of boxes and it would keep them neat. I never realsied how addictive having one could be and now its already full and cost me quite a bit to fill it.
  16. It did. Thanks for all the messages.
  17. IMO people like to use their cameras to record a moment, something they attended and it becomes more personal when you have taken it yourself. No, its not going to be broadcast quality, probably grainy and possibly out of focus, but it’s something else you can take away from the event and cherish. THIS is why people use them at gigs IMO, and while it does seem to be almost everyone doing it at some point why shouldn’t they? I don’t agree it spoils the gig for others, unless they held up in front of you and blocking the view. Look at the performers, not the audience. The bag idea seems like a lot of hassle for both venue and event goer to me.
  18. I use it with the clean blend full up, and the internal trim pots as factory default. No issues that i can hear. As i said, i want it to sound dirty so maybe its getting covered up with the expected dirt (not that I’m using much). Today i was being lazy using the battery, normally ive been running it at 12v on my pedal board. I dont think its marketed as a bass pedal though. Ive read a few people that have this issue, but loads that have used it since it first came out, so i wouldnt have thought it was an issue on every box made. Maybe a bad batch? Mine just says ‘Overdrive’ and ‘by Jeorge Tripps’ at the bottom. Its dated 2014.
  19. Ive been using my PL today off battery and haven’t noticed any unwanted distortion, and that’s a with my SIre V7 5 string. Maybe I just play lighter. Then again I didn’t buy this for clean so maybe I’ve just not noticed it. I’m going to do the bright mod tomorrow (hopefully). I actually like the tone of the stock capacitor, but feel I need to try the mod to see what difference it makes.
  20. I read this thread a week or so ago when I was looking to use something a bit smaller than my Vanderkley 1x15 for rehearsals. We have to go up a narrow set of stairs, and while the cab is light its a bit of a struggle if I’m carrying other things as well. I was going to buy a smaller cab, maybe a BF 1x10 or something like that, but didn’t really want to spend much money. So I dug out one of our db technology powered 1x15 PA cabs. I wasn’t sure how well it would work just going from my pedal boardi,, but it worked really well. In fact I much preferred the tone I had that night over anything I’ve had recently at rehearsals. It also made setting up much quicker.
  21. Al, I agree with you. I didn’t intend to infer you can get the DG tone for less, just that you get a lot for your money with the B3n compared to a hand built box that costs nearly £400 that does one type of effect. I don’t think the BDDI patch is as good as the real thing either, that’s why I still went and brought one (again) I understand you pay more for boutique, hand built boxes, and accept that if you want one you have to pay the going rate. Worth it to some, not worth it to others. I just don’t get why people get upset about those that don’t have a lot of money, or are disappointed about how high the cost is get upset. .
  22. Wow, you were spot on. I got the P bass out as I was too lazy to get the Jazz from the other room, and it’s like the PL was made for a P bass. Ive messed about with the internal pots but I actually prefer the tone with the default settings, at least with headphones on. Right, i need to get myself a Sire 5 string P bass now.
  23. A zoom B3n does way more than a B7K Ultra, yet cost under half the price. It includes a B7K and B3K sim.. Just saying. just because something cost a lot more doesn't make it better, and believe it or not, almost £400 is a lot of money for a box that makes a farty noise :-)
  24. Agreed. Also these pedals seem to be used with other pedals to get those amazing tones (at least, that’s what it seem like when I go in to OD threads). That’s a lot of money for something that seems to need yet more money spent to make it good.
