Have you looked at the many Comp threads that have been active on here over the past few weeks. They are hard to miss, and their numbers are growing every day ;-). Im surprised anyone needs to ask anything about comps now with all this information to hand.

So i guess by the time i sell my Spectradrive you will be ready for it lol. Glad its working out for you though. I find compressors very boring, but i guess that's the idea. Set and forget and no one will notice...(opp's, wrong thread :-)

Hows the Cali going?

30+ years with a pick and im having the opposite issue. I really want to play finger style but just cant get the speed up. Im ok at home but once with the band i struggle too much.

I bet your cab on mine would look like a letter box lol. I had 2 BF cabs before this, both good cabs but not for me. Ill say no more, its in the past.

Its the light and WB. They are very close, although the MB is a bit more shiny :-). That's the Italian in me

Mine matches my Markbass head.

Ive only just started to get a more woody tone since getting my Q/strip. Its amazed me how much variation in tone i can now get from a lowly passive P bass, even with OD engaged earlier in the chain.

It Took Me Long Enough to Discover the Sans Amp
dave_bass5 replied to plangentmusic's topic in Effects
Inline for me. Although i keep the amp pretty much flat, the extra EQ available from the amp is useful if i need to tweak freq's the BDDI doesn't have. -

Maybe its for the emperor, to go with his new clothes :-)

Compression - what's all the fuss about?

I’m confused. If its said you cant obviously tell if a good compressor is working, how can you tell if its not, especially in a band mix? -

Compression - what's all the fuss about?
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
This is the setting i use, also in to the BDDI patch. I just love this tone. Its only in to headphones at home though, but it was my stock B3n tone for ages until i started using my pedal board in to the B3n. @Al KrowYour going down the exact route i went a few months ago. The Cali will (IMO) blow the B3n comp away, but in my case, for home playing, it was never enough to warrant getting the Cali hooked up. Most of the time id just use the B3n comps with their default settings, and quite liked what i heard, but the dBX just seemed to be less noticeable and quieter. -
Thanks for the PR lol. Yes I will get one. To me this pedal does a few things I want, but not too many (like the B3n) that makes me feel I’m undersuing it. It’s not going to be a cure to any problem, but it will definitely have a use. I guess ill wait for a video review or two, just to make sure there isn’t a hidden issue, but on paper its going to be ideal.

GK MB800 fits the bill IMO. Small and very light, 800watt (not sure how loud that really is), and not quite as coloured as i thought it would be before getting it. Probable not as warm compared to some, but through my Vanderkely 1x15 it has a very clear, tight low end.

You can have first refusal lol.

I agree. if you are after just a basic feature set then this thing is definitely a contender Ive looked at other things like the PLEX, and although it offers far more, i dont think its quite as useful for live use, or more its overkill As its listed at $199 i guess its not really unexpected. Its still cheaper than a BDDI and seems to offer a bit more. Ive still got my BDDI and Pork Loin to sell so i can easily afford it.

Hmmm, a bit more than i hoped to pay. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/TC-Electronic-Spectradrive-Bass-Preamp-and-Drive-Pedal/2CHD

I dont need just a headphone amp, i need something like the B3n but smaller, and it can have less features (because i dont use them). If i dont fancy getting the pedal board out ill still have comp and dirt within one box, EQ thats designed for bass, plus speaker sim on the headphone out. For live use, i had planned on turning the AS on and off for clean/dirt, but ive fond i like it so much as a warming effect i may keep it on all the time. Therefore, id need another dirt pedal. With limited space i can take the Spectracomp off the board, and replace it with the Spectradrive. Id get to keep the same comp settings, and and a switchable dirt pedal.....in theory. It also means i have more EQ options on the board, and more importantly with real knobs and not software based. But it is more for home use, and mainly to use without my pedal board. Sometimes its a pain getting that out, as it means more wires across the floor, but i have been doing it more and more because of what son the board. I find the Spectra comp just seems ot work better for me than the ones in the B3n. Its definitely a GAS attack, but one that i can genuinely see a use for. By the way, TC have said it will be available next month, so not a long wait.

I too only have the Spectracomp and Cornoa, and i can see no reason (for me) to ever need to go in to the editor. Its not practical to use it at gigs etc Although its not a match for the B3n as far as patches and FX etc go, my way of using the B3n is to just have it set up with a fairly generic Amp/cab patch, and use my pedal board to supply the tone shaping, alnog with mixing in music or YT from my ipad. Ive always wanted a BDDI type of unit to do this, but without all the extra stuff i dont need. This new TC box seems ideal. I know it wont do proper amp sims, but to be honest a lot of the time i use the B3n in bypass mode anyway, especially when i was using a pedal that did amp sim like the BDDI or VTBass. So, in my case, it seems perfect for my use, and it does seem to tick enough boxes to go on my board at some point. Ive been thinking of using the AS as an always on, so could maybe use the OD in the Spectradrive as an on/off boost, plus replace my Spectracomp, all without adding yet another box to the board.

Seeing as I don’t use the tone editor it’s not a big deal for me. As long as I can get my fav Spectracomp settings beamed to it that’s all I’ll need. I’m sure the OD part is good but I’ll be using my AO for that side of things anyway.

From the manual ’Note that this pedal does not support custom TonePrint creation via the editor software. However, we have provided plenty of meticulously-crafted TonePrints for both TubeDrive and SpectraComp to ensure that you’ll be able to get the sound you’re looking for.
