One thing about Later that strikes me is that not many folk are ambivalent about it and there is certainly no shortage of viewers. I love it when folk watch something just to slag it off.
But you never know what level of crap will be on unless you do watch it. Personally i want to like what i hear, but i seem to be amongst those that give it 30 secs before knowing if something will appeal to me. Normally ill wait until the vocals come in, but sometimes you just tell its going to be one of those 'arty farty ambient' acts with no real substance or 'tune'. i'd include Zappa in that category as well.
Got to love drummers.
No gary, you most certainly do not have to love them. Talking to them is more than enough
Don't think it's the fault of that particular site, more that there are an awful lot of delusional dreamers, who think they want to be in a band.
when we were looking for a drummer earlier this year, we thought we found one. Could talk the talk, lived fairly close and was available. He had some demo stuff up which sounded good as well. Reading further down he stated that because he has been out of playing live for a while he only owns cymbals and sticks, but (and this is the killer) would consider buying a full kit if any gigs came along. Consider????? You cant blame the website for that, although maybe the parents.

Well they open this Sat at 9.30am. Luckily ill be busy elsewhere :-)
Is this really the first PMT in London? Maybe I read the OP wrong, but if it is then that's one of the more surprising facts I've learned recently.
Well i never said it was the first, just that its the only one listed as being in London. It says so on their website so if im wrong.........
I think Number 6 means it isn't going to help his GAS problems...
Ah yes, same for me i expect.
-
Well it shouldn't be any more expensive than their other shops, nor their website.
-
Yeah, im hoping to NOT spend a lot of money there. Looks like they will be selling Darkglass products so not much hope of that......

Just seen this. New store opening near Old street. https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/stores/london/ This is just down the road from where i work. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing :-(

I felt like this when I first got my V7. I had a few comments about my playing in relation to Marcus. Luckily it was from mates who were just having a laugh but even so, it felt uncomfortable. I had to point out that mine was a 5 string and that’s one more than Marcus can play lol.
-
Agreed, especially as they cant see him playing anything other than the 4 string V7 he promotes. Still, his name has got them the exposure they needed and word of mouth did the rest. Bloody good basses, and at least at the start for amazing prices. Shame the price has crept up since they came out, but now word is out I didn’t think it’s going to hamper sales much.
-
I agree, they have done really well, but I just think its milking the MM collaboration now. Still, if it works fair enough. Wouldn’t put me off buying another Sire.
Cos they don't pass the BBC's 'trendy' test.
Im surprised most of those acts on Jools get on. I understand creativity can be a diverse thing, but some of that crap just baffles me. I watch it because i know my musical tastes are quite narrow, so id like to hear what else is out there and hopefully appreciate music more, but when i hear girls screaming or blokes wailing over a repetitive backing track (and god forbid its got boogie woogie piano over it) it makes me wonder if its safer to not try and join the trendy and pretentious brigade.
Thanks for that does this work with AmpliTube and or garage band cheers
Yes to all of those. I sometimes use it at work with my iPhone. I prefer AmpKit as i like the Ashdown and Trace Elliot sims, but sometimes ill use GB with a basic drum track playing.
-
Actually i find the iRigHD to be perfect if you need to wonder around. Headphones and iRig in to the Phone, bass in to the iRig, no other cables needed. You also get the advantage of loads of Amp sims as well.
-
I think Sire are milking the name a bit. All their basses are 'Marcus Miller' basses. Not that they aren't good, just that i dont see the connection other than the first wave of V7's
Have some of us missed the point here? The Amplug plugs straight into the bass without a cable, and the headphones plug straight into the amplug. You don't need anywhere to put extra bits & Pieces and can walk from one room to another
what about the Phone?

Most of the clubs we used to play would book duo's purely for financial reasons. They would have a band on Saturday nights but couldn't budget for fridays as well. They often said we could have a gig as a band if we only charge for a Duo. Never really got around to that lol.

Did you know we have a Wanted section on here ;-)
Are you the guy that sniffs all the time every time you speak?
Nah, i just laugh at blanket statements like yours.

I second (or third) the GK heads. Ive got a GK MB800 and love it. I also have a MarkBass F1 head, which i thought was small, but the GK is even smaller (a little smaller anyway). I can fit both my F1 and GK MB500 in a laptop bag, along with all the cables/PSUs/FX that i use. Makes life so much easier having these small heads.

Lakland DJ5. Loved the look but never got on with the tone. I even had it converted to a PJ but still never got on with the basic tone. Even compared to my Squier CV Jazz it seemed to lack definition and clarity. Definitely not a Jazz/P thing, as i had been using my CV Jazz up to the point when i got the Lakland. Gutted i got rid of it now, as my sonic tastes have changed.
-
My Jazz could knock any P for six. It plays better, it sounds better and is more versatile for different genres.
LOL.
Much as I like my Jazz basses, the Precisions get taken out far more often, in fact in recent years, I've only gigged a J when I feel it needs to taken out or moved on.
Pretty much my situation, although for different reasons i expect. I much prefer jazz basses, but i just cant get them to work as well as i can a P bass live. I struggle with the low end, and the lack of punch on the G string. Yes ive done as much tweaking as i can be bothered to do over the years, and the jazz bass has worked well for me, but when i plug a P bass in life just seems to get a lot easier.

offered festival slot, politely declined, whatcha think?

It doesn't sound like its the first time they have done this so maybe it will work out ok for the charity itself, if not for the bands. I guess if those bands booked arent getting paid then that's their choice. They get a gig out of it and possibly a good weekend away. Best not let Blue see this :-) I'd do it if it didnt clash with a paid gig. I depped a couple of years ago with a band that did one of these (on a smaller scale). i learnt a lot of new (to me) songs and didn't get paid. Had one of the best gigs in a long time and it was a great day out. I made the choice and i was happy with the outcome. cant really see what the fuss is about. dont want to do it, dont do it. Life really is that simple until someone starts a thread about it no here, then he soap boxes come out and all hell breaks loose :-)
