Although not original or much different, i really like the Phil X cover videos. Not bad for a 3 piece. Love the bass tones.

Had comp's over the years but always sold them on, as the times that i didnt use them (through laziness) i really didnt notice it. Saying that, i do like what they do, so im giving it one last go with a Spectracomp. It will be always on, to hopefully iron out my pick playing.
I sold my VMTD quite quickly. Just wasn't for me.
I replaced my old BDDI with a VMTD. I did like it, even though i missed the BDDi. It’s the VMT i dont really like, even though ive had it for a while. In fact i sold it on here very quickly but brought it back and it’s been giged enough, its just now i find it a bit dark and not what i really want. It’s nice having the BDDI back. I’d love a B7K but that’s silly money for what i need.
Darkglass B3K Most people use it cranked I think. Personally I love it at low gain. Adds a wonderful quality. I even use it when playing big band!
I do want to try one. Ive got the emulation in my Zoom B3n and it does sound nice (not as nice as the B7K). its not a cheap pedal though and there seems to be a lot of options under that price. Maybe ill get a trade with my VMT. Really gone off the VMT at the moment.

I expect ill sell my VMT now, maybe even the VTBass DI. Now i have my basic always on dirt i might give the OS ago for more dirt on songs that need it, might even try another Soul Food. Part of my problem was looking for a dirty always on tone, but needing both more and less dirt. I dont think this can come from one small pedal (had a VTBass deluxe but never got on with it) so now ill go for a two pedal set up. The VMT and VTBass will not be part of the chain though.
-
Glad you got it sorted. I ended up going for a BDDI v2. After about 30secs with it i started to wonder why i ever sold my old one. Although i have the VTBass DI, which is technically better and more versatile, its the BDDI tone i had been missing for the past few years. Now i need something i can use for more dirt, will look in to the Orange Juice as it does look liek a real bargain and i like the idea of the smaller size.

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire

I’d say they sound exactly as you would expect an active jazz to sound but even the passive tone is good IMO. To my ears the V7 sounds more ‘jazz bass’ than my Squier CV Jazz. -

I always feel like that whenever a Squier JV comes up for sale. Lovely basses for £199 (original price), not good value at all for the ridiculous price they go for on here and eBay etc. -
Yeah, i must admit the Muscle tone print is growing on me. Think ill stick with it for the first rehearsal. Ive been very confused about ther Tone print software. It’s been bugging me how the tone is changing on its own when using the software, and it took me a while to figure out the software resets the pedal when you switch to the editior from a tone tone print made by the famous bass players. I had been sending the various tone prints to the pedal and that worked fine, but when i go in ot the editior it defaults to a basic tone. After sone searching I found out why it does this, but its a silly limitation IMO, as the work around seems easy enough to do so you can edit the tone prints. Like you i will just turn this on when i start playing and leave it like that all night. Don’t plan on changing anything during a gig. I doubt i would hear much change anyway.

For no other reason than im bored i was just looking on Thomanns website at these. I was amazed at how much they now cost. Definitely not budget bass prices any more IMO. some are over £750. In a way i suppose that might instil more confidence in the basses, as they wont appear to be cheap basses, but im glad i got mine in the first wave of V7's. -

Thanks for the replies. I went through all the Tone prints last night (still only on headphones) and was amazed at how different they made my P bass sound. Ive never had a Comp this diverse before. Funnily enough i ended up preferring the default settings, although l liked aspects of some of the others. I did noticed the Muscle comps’ author was a pick player but i felt that tone a was a bit agreesive in the top end. To be honest all seem to be good starting points. I’m not really looking ot accent the pick attract, i dont really like that tone, but ot can be useful for some songs. Dan, every time i look at one of your video reviews it costs me money lol. It would be good if you do manage to get a screen shot up but only when you get the time. I sort of understand what most the parameters do, but its the interaction between them that bafffle me. Too many options to keep playing with. I dont think ive touched the knob on the pedal much. I did have one big issue last night. I made a few adjustments and clicked save to pedal. Once the tone had been sent i got a very loud screeching sound that almost blew my head off. I had to reset the pedal to get rid of it. Looks like it was just a one off though. I think this will be a keeper, it seems to do subtle well enough. it wil just sit on the amp always on.

Cheers, ill give that a try. It does seem like nearly all the Tone print patches are for slap bass. I can understand how useful compression is for that style, but even so.....

Im sure this has been covered somewhere but i cant quite find what im looking for. Ive just the above pedal (yeah, yet another comp) as an always on effect. Im hoping to use it to even out my pick playing and add a bit of fullness to the upper stings. Just playing the standard covers so i dont need a specific tone out of it, i just need more presence. Ive read loads of reviews and loved Dan's video about editing this pedal, but i must admit im at a loss as far as what best to tweak to get the above. I also cant use it through my rig at home, so any testing would be with headphones which isnt going to be ideal (all the patches sound good to me doing it this way). So im just asking for recommendations based on the existing tone print patches that would be most suitable as a starting block. Cheers for any pointers. i think this one will be a keeper.
-
Thanks for the recommendation. Actually I'm not really in love with the VMT, its just that i have it. I think i need to move on to the BK range or use my VTBass DI more. I had the VMTD Ultra but was overwhelmed with all the knobs and although i got some great tones it was too distracting and i kept messing with it. I want something simpler. I think this is more a GAS thing than a real need, so i dont really want to spend much.

Quick update. I didn’t like it. Although i only tried it at a very low volume i can tell its not what i was hoping for. It’s nice, but seeing as i already have a VMT and VTBass DI Which both sound much fuller i might as well send it back. Going to try a BK3 next.
-
What i meant when i said it was overkill was the Ultra was too tempting got keep tweaking. Too many knobs for what i needed. The tone was of course amazing, but i found i would keep tweaking it and it got too distracting. Same goes for the Zoom B3n. I like the simple life so the less knobs the better. With the VMT i just tend to leave it on all the time and only tweak the Vintage knob to suit the song. Recently though ive found i also turn up the Drive quite a bit for a few songs. Thing is i find the VMT to be a bit dark sounding, even with the vintage knob right up. Ive not actually played the BSF yet, but i feel the VMT has to go either way. I can do without the warming effect the VMT gives when used always on. The other option i was looking at was a BK3. I like what i hear in the B3n simulation, but for what the BSF costs ill give that a try first. Im quite new to distortion (as opposed to just warming a head up) and i know ill go through a few boxes before finding the one that suites me. Might as well start at the cheap end. Its from Amazon so i can easily send it back if i dont like it.
-
I'd never head of the BSF until i clicked on this thread. Sounds like the one i just ordered will be replacing my Darkglass VMT. I like the VMT but its not quite what i was hoping for. I had the VMTD a while ago and thought that was better. i also upgraded to the Ultra but didnt keep that long as it was a bit overkill. These days i need a bit more distortion, along the same line as what Graham needs, and for similar songs. I do have a VTBass DI which i love, and a Zoom B3n, but i really just want to use one pedal at gigs with as little room to fiddle with as possible.
Yeah I prefer the black myself - not too in your face but just enough to bring out that sparkle in th finish
Yeah, black is my fav. Although I liked the pearl it gave the bass more of a 60's look IMO. Classy but not really my thing.
-
Yeah, i cant stand white, and on a bass like this i felt a darker colour brought the colour out more. This was the same bass with a pearl PG on. quite a different look. Id have it if it wasn't for the ding in it.
Sorry Dave, I have to disagree, there is some fantastic new music out there if you look for it, The Temples, Mystry Jets, Ghostpoet to name but a few, of the older more established bands The Charletons are writing some of their best ever stuff at the moment, they may not be doing a style of music you really like but there is still some great new music coming through
That’s a subjective list that you obicvlsy like, but to me bands likes the Charletons, Ghostpoet, and Mystry Jedi are awful IMO. I could never listen to that drivel.
Unless your name is Sting, Paul McCartney, Mark King, Phil Lynott or Lemmy.
Sorry, couldn’t resist. http://teamrock.com/news/2017-07-25/motorhead-covers-album-due-out-in-september
