1. One thing i found with my CVP was that although the pcikguard looks pretty standard ive had to either use the covers that came with the bass, if the new pups fit, or file down the cutouts on the pcikguard (and I had 3 different ones on my CVP over the years). Not saying this is normal, but it was frustrating.
2.
This is a shame, I`ve always had great service from them, couldn`t fault it at all.
Same here, and ive always had quick responses to any questions etc. Been using them for years without a hitch. Maybe they have new staff member's. Gotta love the direct Facebook approach though, ive used this a few times with amazing results with Luther compactness.
3. Forgot all about this being for sale. I did use it a few times but its been a bit of a hassle. Sooooo....£100 ovno type of bump. Still as good as new.
4. On my HD 25-1 II its just a very small jewellers type of Phillips.
5. I could be wrong but if i recall one of the large USA music changing like GC had some custom Squiers made that only they were selling. Seeing as the wait time for the linked bass is almost a month i wonder if this is one of those, or maybe its just something that not released yet. They don't seem wildly avaible. I too have one of the red CVP's and its been a really good workhorse bass over the past 7 0r 8 years. I diont use it anymore as i have something better, i really never got to love the fiesta red look, but other than the colour i never had anything got complain about. Saying that it was modded heavily but for no other reason than it was something got do. Great value basses back then, and although the price has crept up they are still good value IMO.
6.
Isn't that simply the history of all blues recordings
Blues and Status Quo
7. I didnt realise it was the Stone when i first heard it, i though someone had just recorded an open mic night at a local blues club for 2 hours and then just put gaps in it. Its like one of those jive bunny albums where there is a common beat going all the way through only this time its just the same 3 chords. To me it just looks like the men who dont need any more money have found an even easier way of making more without making any effort.
8. At the moment we are just playing the usual social club standards as we had a new guitarist join a few months ago and wanted to keep it simple. We have about 7-8 gigs booked for next year so far, all paying social club gigs, but since our drummer left earlier this month im having to turn gigs down until we have a full band. Looking to update the set list with more modern songs asap. We arent doing this full time and we all work full time, but given the right opertunity we would prefer to be doing functions or even pubs. This will only happen with a full band and a new demo etc. Until this happens we are at a stand still. We are happy if we can find someone who can commit to gigs we have, even if they are playing in other bands. We are based in central and North London. Ages between 35 and 53 (yeah, that one's me :-). Gigs are in and around the South east, and each pages min £80 each. Happy to rehearse as much as needed but gigs are the main attraction. First one is Feb so we are pretty desperate. Long shot i know but here's hoping.
9. If the bass is faulty, and it seems like it is if it won't tune up then it needs to go back. He told them he wanted a new, different bridge. Why on earth would a shop do that for free? Does this mean if you buy a cheap bass that's neck heavy you can ask for a set of Hipshot ultralites to fix this ;-)
10.
they were not offering to fix the issue, they were offering to take money to fix the issue But it does look like they did not really understand the issue in the first place, or they thought it was caused by the OP.
In his first post he said he told them he didnt want to send it back in his first contact with Thomanns. He also suggested a different bridge was needed, and they were offering to supply one but at his cost. Sounds reasonable to me considering he didnt want to send it back for replacement.
11.
I thought we were just to agree with the OP that he'd got terrible service and list the thousands of times Thomann has shafted us. Oh and follow it up with a pledge of support to never buy from them again.
The OP went even further, he refused to let them fix the issue lol.
12.
No return offered so maybe they assumed I did the mess.... Have nothing to do and drill holes to screw up my intonation(?) Cheers, Tomas
You told them you didn't want to return it, so isnt that an indication to them that the offer to return it isnt an option you want to go for? To say they must be assuming you did it because they are going along with your wishes seems a strange comment to make.
13. My heart always drops when i get to a venue and find the only way in and out is through the front door, for the exact reasons above. Must admit we dont get many like that these days.
14.
When it powers up normally, is the light red, and then go blue, or is it normally blue all the way? Perhaps the power stage does not get turned on until it is happy, but it is not showing you this if the light is always blue? May be a sticky relay?
The light normally flashes red for a split second as its powering up, then blue. It did this each time i turned it on and off. You could well be right about the false indicator, i hadn't thought of that. Ive never had any issues with climate change as far as my gear goes. Even my basses stay in tune no matter what the weather.
15. I very much doubt it was that. Ther weather was quite mild and the club wasnt hot when we arrived. As ive said above this head is supposed to show if there's is any issues by changing the blue on light to red. This didn't happen and that's what's confusing.
16. Thanks guys. Ill give the patch lead idea a go if it happens again. Ive not gigged since i started this thread but have been occasionally testing the rig out at home and so far its been 100%. Id like to think it was something at the venue but that could mean it can happen again and I have no idea why. Ill also be taking my old Markbass F1 to gigs from now on, just as a precaution. Next gig is this Friday so we shall see.
17.
We've had people turn speakers round because it's too loud for them. They stand right in front of it and think it's ok to turn it towards the band !
Same here, in fact we are back with the Farmers again. One twat thought it funny to keep putting the mic right in front of the (now turned in) speakers so it would feed back. We also witnessed them opening creates of champagne, shaking the bottles and spraying each other with them, then just tossing the bottle on the floor. New money eh?
18.
or even better shout down a microphone and let everyyknow that Dave is a knob or such like !
Ah, so it was you at my last gig lol.
19. I should add it was the photographers idea and they did ask our singer (standing guard in the background) while the rest of us were outside. They didnt make any noise and we all very grateful and brought us drinks all night. And yes, she look a lot more natural on the bass than i ever do. Will and Janine Usher by Dave Pearce, on Flickr I always find it a laugh to let seem of the audience play with us, but we rarely get asked for instrument's its anomaly peoples who can "sing". Had one one guy ask to play bass on a song, I let him have my 5 string. Watched as the look of confusion crept over his face and he decided he was too drunk and couldnt make out where the strings were so gave it back.
20. We played a wedding in Richmond park a few years ago. After the first set we went outside for some fresh air. Came back to find a "new" band posing for photos. The had asked the singer and he said it was ok (without tell us) but the rest of us all had different reactions. My guitarist hit the roof and was almost crying that soemone had his guitar, my drummer got the hump because soemone had adjusted his cymbals, and i grabbed my camera and thought it was a great photo opportunity lol. Bride, groom and Best man Janine rocking out by Dave Pearce, on Flickr On a much more serious note, the worst audiences we have played to are your farmers. These dickheads think they won you and your gear while you are there and dont hesitate to rearrange anything they, and their small minded drunk mates can think off. We had one twat try and walk down the venue carrying one of our PA speakers DURING a gig, because he thought it would be a great laugh putting it on his table.
21. Ive got the Bose QC35's. When i first put them on the noise, or lack of it was a real surprise. I just wasnt expecting that much of a difference. Sound wise i believe they arent as good as the Sen M2's, alothugh they are the nicest sounding headphones ive got, but for me the NC was the reason i got them. I walk through central London to and from work each day and its been a revelation not hearing all the traffic. Blue tooth was also a huge consideration. Unfortunately this is where they dont even match a cheap £20 pair of BT headphones for me. Very disappointed in that aspect, although they are still usable and i do use them everyday. Its great being able to sit in the living room watching videos on YT while the rest of the family watch TV. I feel the Bose headphones are very overpriced, but if NC is the reason for getting headphones then Bose are No.1 in the field.
22.
I would have thought its the perfect situation, he gets to do the rehearsals, live shows and recording (the good bits) and not the interviews, photoshoots and get involved in any other band boring bits. Perfect!
This would definitely be my choice if i had the chance. Playing music is why i do it, sod the other stuff (other than making money of course).
23. Same with Bon Jovi, although i think thats partly due to the wishes of Hugh McDonald wanting to keep a low profile (at least, thats what i read ages ago)
24. Thanks. That would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that, according to the manual, the light around the power switch changes to red if the amp detects an issue. In this case it stayed blue to indicate all was good. At no point was the amp turned off or reset. I should have tried but didn't. At one point I did strike the strings really hard and got a grunt out of the amp. Then nothing for a few more mins, then perfect for the 2 1/2 hours that we played.
