1.
Why I Play With A Pick Ok,guys, let's hear your reasoning. No hatin. Blue
Pretty much the same as bonzodog. Played with a pick most of my playing life. Not sure why, maybe its because i also played a bit of guitar first. I dont really like the tone most of the time. I have started playing with fingers at home but my drummer insists on playing everything so fast so i use a pick as my fingers cant keep up. Its a viscous cycle at the moment.
2. Thanks for all the help Alex (and others). Ive done all that (and other things suggested). Its not a set up issue at the bass end, as im finding similar results with ym other basses. Ive been using the BB2 regularly since i got it and never at home. Its not just the E string, certain freqs seem louder than others. The open E is quite soft compared ot fretted G, im aware of why that is. Sometimes i know its the room not working well but most cabs suffer from that so i wouldnt blame the cab. I dont have this issue using the studio cabs, nor going through our PA (although its a small PA and i just go through it for a bit of support) I have the pup set up correctly, but its not just the one bass im struggling with. I think the bottom line is that its just not for me. Nothing wrong with it at all.
3. Well just a qucik update. After taking the advice in this thread i have been getting on with the BB2 a bit better, but its still not for me. Its the unevenness of the output im struggling with. While the low notes/E sting have loads of heft to them sometimes its too over powering, yet at the same time the upper strings are getting lost. This being the case its now in the process of being passed on, and im about to order a Vanderkley 15MN6. Lets see how this goes. Im in no doubt the BB2 is a great cab, but i cant help feel if i was playing finger style only i would have got on more with it.
4. Oh kev, this is not helping me save up for my holiday. Ive been looking at Vanderkley to replace my BF BB2, and im also using a GK head (although mine is a MB800). I dont think ive seen many posts about the small GK heads and these cabs. Ill keep an eye on this thread and see how you get on. Oh, and i didnt need to see "that" pedal either ;-)
5. Just got a strap from Nick's Bass Wonder Emporium. Hassle free as always. Cheers mate. Dave.
6. After learning about the TC Corona i now have a Corona mini and love it. Im using the Marlow DK tone patch, which is just a thickening tone. No hint of any 80's tone, and im more or less using it on all the time.
7. Of course if you dont like jazz basses it's a no brainier lol. I've seen secondhand 5501 's go for less than the cost of a new V7 so it's not an easy choice.
8. I too have owned both (still got the Sire) and agree with the others. The Lakland neck radius is a lot flatter and for me more comfortable to play. Not by a lot, but if i had to choose one neck it would be the Lakland. The tone of the V7 is a lot more versatile IME. When i had my 55-01 i put a NTMB in it and still felt it lacked character. It was never a bad tone, just left me wanting. I think its the type of pup, maybe it just wasn't for me. The 55-01 is quite a bit lighter as well.
9. Just brought a Chorus pedal off Nick, and couldn't have been happier with the item and the very quick delivery. Top bloke, cheers Nick. Dave.
10. Any chance a smartphone would do the job? I can't think of anything smaller. I use Amp kit on my iPhone for learning songs at home now and it works really well. Got Spotify/iTunes/YouTube on tap. I also used to use my Zoom B3 and that worked very well, but i found I didn't use it enough to keep it. I wouldn't try it with the Zoom 60B though.
11. I really want a TC Corona now. I tried one in Denamrk st yesterday. It seemed more organic than anything I've used before. I have missed out on two on here this weekend so if anyone does want shot of theirs, I have a wanted ad running already and cash waiting.
12. If MikeD doesn't have it ill definitely have it for asking price.
13. Hmm, i cant say the same about my F1 and BF BB2. Its certainly doesnt struggle too much to be heard but id never be heard with the master just on 3. Even with my 1212L i had the master around 11 o'clock at most gigs. .
14. Just got this in my inbox. Bugger. Just paid for a holiday or i would have ordered one. Id say this would a better option for me over the BB2.
15. Cheers. Guys. Although i do have chorus options its an effect i never really get around to using, but i quite fancy trying a Corona. Might try the mini (unless i can get the full size secondhand) as i doubt ill be fiddling with it once i have a tone i want. I expect ill just use it to thicken my tone up when the guitarist is solo'ing.
16. After reading this thread i went off and looked at the TC Corona. it looks like a very decent chorus. I quite fancy one, but the mini looks like it might do enough for me, as i wouldn't use it a lot and cant see me needing the 3 chorus effect. Ive got a Boss CEB-3 but its not working properly, so could do with getting a new chorus. Are any of you Corona owners using the mini or the are you all using the full sized version?
17. I got this late last year from Thomanns for £185. As usual getting a compressor seemed like a good idea at the time, but ive used it twice. Its definitely the best ive owned, the blend knob has been a real game changer as far as punch goes, but after not using for a couple of rehearsals and realising i didn't need it ive had it sitting around in the box since Sept. We were going to do a demo so i kept it for that, but so far its not happened . Included is the box and all the box stuff. Ive put the supplied rubber base on, but other than that id say its in good as new condition Looking for £115 posted to UK mainland, £110 for a central London meet up. Not looking for any trades. From the website. Summary The Studio Bass Compressor is a studio-grade, classic compressor in a user friendly 4 knob format. Description Our unique Blend knob and 3 way mini-toggle switch will allow you to select the frequency range of the original uncompressed signal as well as infinitely adjust the amount of “wet” versus “dry” signal that is routed to the output. It’s often best to put a compressor at the beginning of your effects chain, but sometimes it can work more efficiently when placed after effects such as an auto wah or envelope filter. You won’t do any damage by putting your effects in the so-called wrong order, so feel free to experiment and find what works best for your sound. http://www.seymourdu...bass-compressor Cheers. Now sold. Cheers David, nice to meet you.
18. Now sold. Thanks to all those who got in touch.
19. Ive got the F1 head and i would say its a bit sterile/bland. The F1 and F500 are not the same sounding as the LM series, which do sond more organic to me. Ive gigged my F1 for about 4 years, and to be honest ive always found putting a pre amp like a BDDi/VTBass etc in front makes a huge difference to its tone. Just a slight warming up makes a nice difference. I actually prefer sound of my F1 over my old LMKII and SA450. It seems to have a cleaner and faster low end. Ive always wanted a F500, so typically one came up on here about a week after i got a new GK MB800 :-(
20. I got this a couple of weeks ago from Bass direct, cost me £179. Having owned the Deluxe version a couple of years ago and not really using the EQ I thought it didn't need the EQ version again, well I do so I need to get rid of this so I can found the Deluxe. I would say the condition is as new, no marks or scratches that I can see. It's only done one rehearsal, on top of my amp. I have put the stick on rubber feet on but of course they can be removed. Includes box and everything else that came with it. Happy to supply photos if needed, although I haven't taken any yet. Lookinf for a firm £140, either collection from central London or posted to mainland UK. Cheers. Dave.
21. Anyway, I really did want to talk about the Vanderkley if anyone has one. I started a thread last year about getting a 1x15 and ended up with BF. The 15MN6 was recommended to me a few times, and I just want to get that out of my system really. The BB2 issue I posted about wasn't really meant to be the topic, this is really not the reason I'm looking at the 1x15.
