[/quote] Yep, never taken two basses to a gig. One time though i took the wrong bass by mistake (picked up the wrong gig bag). When i took it out at the gig i was shocked to see it was the bass that i had taken apart for spares. I had to re wire the pups and jack socket, inc mounting the pups so they wouldnt fall out, with Gaffa tape at the gig. Now days i always pack the bass in its bag just before leaving. I did think the correct thing to do is to take a spare, especially if its a big event or a wedding etc. I think it looks very unprofessional if any gear isnt working 100% on a paying gig, but i also feel confident enough that my bass wont stop working to the point where i cant play the gig.

I too couldn't get on with my Streamliner. I thought the basic tone was nice but live i found it a bit too bottom heavy, to the extend that it over shadowed the lower mids a bit more than i liked. Nice head though.

[/quote] I don't think people need to justify why they like something or not. I agree sometimes it could be put a bit more tactful but we all like different things and it really just be taken as that. For the record I've made jokes about Adam etc, but I much, much prefer his playing over the big names like Jaco, Wooten, Miller etc. I find those players very boring to listen to, although it's probably more the genre rather than the playing itself. Hopefully that won't be questioned :-)

Ive always felt my band's PA was under par compared to a real decent PA. We did a gig a few years ago with a hired PA. It was a small pub and this guy turned up with a huge (well ,compared to our vocal) PA. we thought it a bit OTT to say the least, but what a tone!!!. Amazing transformation to our overall mix. My lot seem too think as long as the audience can hear us thats good enough, and we had a lot of heated discussions about this and the use of bass bins. With a smaller set up there can be a tendency to push it too hard, and that can make everything sound less pleasant IMO. This might be ok in a pub or small club where everyone is up for it and half cut, but not at a function where a lot of people might just want to listen and not mosh about on the dance floor. Ive seen bands that have sounded so bad i wouldn't dream of going near the stage/dance floor for fear of loosing my hearing. As an example we got a new guitarist last year. He turned up with a 18watt H&K tube combo. Bloody loud for such a small box, and he said it would be enough for our gigs. Well, it was loud enough but had no body to it and considering he uses an FX board it was a bloody mess at gig volumes. After a month or so he got a Fender combo and what a difference. He doesnt play any louder but the body is there and everything sound so much cleaner and palatable.

I really do love this cab. Its definitely the best cab ive ever owned (for me anyway). Ok, ive said that before with new cabs, but now ive gigged it 5 times (wish we were busier) without any issues or negative thoughts, at venues when i have had varying results before, i can safely say this is THE one for me. Maybe ive just been looking fro a 1x15 all along, or maybe its just that this one is voiced better to my ears. In fact when i decided to replace my long term 1212L i started a thread asking about a 1x15 to replace it. I got a bit lost back then and neither of the BF cabs really worked out, but now im 99% happy. The other 1% is just that i know if i could go larger i could get something that would be 100%, but space is tight in the car. The cab has heft that across the board, and this is what i was missing in the other cabs. Not quite as deep as the BB2, but i feel its a more usable low end for social club stages. The thickness seems to translate better at distances. I find the tone on stage is pretty much what im hearing if i walk around the dance floor. This was never the case with the BF or Schroeder cabs. Knowing this makes playing a bit more pleasurable. I know i dont have to adjust my playing to avoid boom or certain notes disappearing. Ok, that might be bad technique etc, but after playing for all these years i know when im happy. At the same rehearsal rooms ive used for the past year or so with the other cabs in the results have been the same as above. All around the room the full range of the bass can be heard. With the BB2 there was a definite loss of some notes when the band were playing and i was in various places in the room/s. Im happy to admit that the cab is colouring the tone to get this, but if thats what was needed im all for it. The BB2 had more bite and clarity on the upper strings/notes, but they lacked the power the lower notes had, and could get overwhelmed and lost. Again, i appreciate there are other things in play here but the end result is what counts. If there was a negative it would be that the tweeter is more like a standard one, so you can certainly hear it when slapping and popping, but otherwise its not making a great deal of difference. The BB2 on the other hand was really nice to use and made a big difference to the upper frequencies. For me this is a non issue so its not really a negative as such, more of a less useful thing to have. So yes, the quest is really over for now.

Content to play a few gigs each month. Never had any aspirations to "make it".

Ill be getting one of these soon. I own a GK MB800 but i never set my rig up at home as i live in a flat. I do all my playing at home through headphones/PC so having soemthnig that might sound a bit closer to my live rig, but with the extra features that will help with a DAW set up seems ideal to me. I will never use it live though. Regarding the GK signature tone, im not really sure what that is. No way do i sound like Geddy/Flea/ Duff/ anyone who does have a signature tone. to me its just a bit more modern sounding than my Markbass F1. I wouldn't say it sounds too different, just has scope to if needed.

After years of using the 1212L i found my Retro Two 10 quite a shock. Huge, real low end that i hadn't heard in many a year from my rig. Unfortunately the rest wasn't what i hoped for but thats a personable thing of course.

I can't stand fiesta red, yet for about 3 years my fiesta red CVP was my main gigging bass. Playability and tone were wonderful but I hated looking at the bloody thing. There was never any enjoyment when I looked at it. Now I have a Sandblasted P bass I feel it's the best bass I've ever owned. Not because it's wonderful to play and has the right tone, but in my eyes is a real looker so it has all three boxes ticked. In fact every time I look at it I smile. I really have no love for any of those odd shaped, pointy looking basses that are suppsedly high end boutique basses. Seems to me you pay more for fuglyness.

I feel really guilty as I dont use mine anymore, at least not at the moment. It's a bass that I feel ill never sell though as it's not financially worth it, and I know I'll want a 5 string at some point in the future. What I like about these bases the most is that they cost so little I have no need to do the one in one out rule, as there will be little to gain. I'm more than happy with my Fender P now, but I know the moment Sire do a 5 string P I'll get one, even if I still have no imediate use for it. I just hope it will be a bit lighter than the Jazz basses.

Fair enough, i forgot that Alex had posted that. All makes sense although i still think its a bit over the top. Not a reflection on BF, just that this Tim bloke seems a bit of a gear tart to me. Is he trying to compete with the much slagged off Adam Clayton to see how many basses he can use on one gig without anyone noticing the difference :-)

I had a JV P, got it when it first came out. IMO they were fantastic basses for their time, and of course they still are, but ive played basses that are much nicer, and cost a lot less than the over inflated second hand prices people expect from JV's. The low end market has matured a lot since the JV's, and while that doesnt mean they arent good, i always laugh when i see one for sale for £600+. These are basses that cost £199 new,and while it was a long time ago are they really worth the current asking price?

It wasnt the shallow one but still my poweramp wouldnt fit. It seems ot be longer than average (;-0) I ended up geting another generic brand that i cant remember the name of, which is longer. Another vote for the BDI 21. This brought my Markbass heads to life. I've moved on from it now but i can't go back to playing just a plain amp without something like this in front of it. It's adds so much more versatility.

Ive had the same drummer for 14 years and he never rehearses at home, cant remember any new bits we add, cant keep time, doesn't have the stamina to keep a steady beat....i could go on and on. utterly soul destroying but its really only now getting to me. I guess my tolerance is a lot higher than most people.
