1. After learning about the TC Corona i now have a Corona mini and love it. Im using the Marlow DK tone patch, which is just a thickening tone. No hint of any 80's tone, and im more or less using it on all the time.
2. Hi Nick. If its still for sale ill have it for £23. Ill PM you now.
3. Of course if you dont like jazz basses it's a no brainier lol. I've seen secondhand 5501 's go for less than the cost of a new V7 so it's not an easy choice.
4. I too have owned both (still got the Sire) and agree with the others. The Lakland neck radius is a lot flatter and for me more comfortable to play. Not by a lot, but if i had to choose one neck it would be the Lakland. The tone of the V7 is a lot more versatile IME. When i had my 55-01 i put a NTMB in it and still felt it lacked character. It was never a bad tone, just left me wanting. I think its the type of pup, maybe it just wasn't for me. The 55-01 is quite a bit lighter as well.
5. Just brought a Chorus pedal off Nick, and couldn't have been happier with the item and the very quick delivery. Top bloke, cheers Nick. Dave.
6. Any chance a smartphone would do the job? I can't think of anything smaller. I use Amp kit on my iPhone for learning songs at home now and it works really well. Got Spotify/iTunes/YouTube on tap. I also used to use my Zoom B3 and that worked very well, but i found I didn't use it enough to keep it. I wouldn't try it with the Zoom 60B though.
7. PM'd about the Corona.
8. I really want a TC Corona now. I tried one in Denamrk st yesterday. It seemed more organic than anything I've used before. I have missed out on two on here this weekend so if anyone does want shot of theirs, I have a wanted ad running already and cash waiting.
9. If MikeD doesn't have it ill definitely have it for asking price.
10. Hmm, i cant say the same about my F1 and BF BB2. Its certainly doesnt struggle too much to be heard but id never be heard with the master just on 3. Even with my 1212L i had the master around 11 o'clock at most gigs. .
11. Just got this in my inbox. Bugger. Just paid for a holiday or i would have ordered one. Id say this would a better option for me over the BB2.
12. Cheers. Guys. Although i do have chorus options its an effect i never really get around to using, but i quite fancy trying a Corona. Might try the mini (unless i can get the full size secondhand) as i doubt ill be fiddling with it once i have a tone i want. I expect ill just use it to thicken my tone up when the guitarist is solo'ing.
13. After reading this thread i went off and looked at the TC Corona. it looks like a very decent chorus. I quite fancy one, but the mini looks like it might do enough for me, as i wouldn't use it a lot and cant see me needing the 3 chorus effect. Ive got a Boss CEB-3 but its not working properly, so could do with getting a new chorus. Are any of you Corona owners using the mini or the are you all using the full sized version?
14. I got this late last year from Thomanns for £185. As usual getting a compressor seemed like a good idea at the time, but ive used it twice. Its definitely the best ive owned, the blend knob has been a real game changer as far as punch goes, but after not using for a couple of rehearsals and realising i didn't need it ive had it sitting around in the box since Sept. We were going to do a demo so i kept it for that, but so far its not happened . Included is the box and all the box stuff. Ive put the supplied rubber base on, but other than that id say its in good as new condition Looking for £115 posted to UK mainland, £110 for a central London meet up. Not looking for any trades. From the website. Summary The Studio Bass Compressor is a studio-grade, classic compressor in a user friendly 4 knob format. Description Our unique Blend knob and 3 way mini-toggle switch will allow you to select the frequency range of the original uncompressed signal as well as infinitely adjust the amount of “wet” versus “dry” signal that is routed to the output. It’s often best to put a compressor at the beginning of your effects chain, but sometimes it can work more efficiently when placed after effects such as an auto wah or envelope filter. You won’t do any damage by putting your effects in the so-called wrong order, so feel free to experiment and find what works best for your sound. 15. Now sold. Thanks to all those who got in touch.
16. Ive got the F1 head and i would say its a bit sterile/bland. The F1 and F500 are not the same sounding as the LM series, which do sond more organic to me. Ive gigged my F1 for about 4 years, and to be honest ive always found putting a pre amp like a BDDi/VTBass etc in front makes a huge difference to its tone. Just a slight warming up makes a nice difference. I actually prefer sound of my F1 over my old LMKII and SA450. It seems to have a cleaner and faster low end. Ive always wanted a F500, so typically one came up on here about a week after i got a new GK MB800 :-(
17. Oh Gary, what are you doing? ;-)
18. I got this a couple of weeks ago from Bass direct, cost me £179. Having owned the Deluxe version a couple of years ago and not really using the EQ I thought it didn't need the EQ version again, well I do so I need to get rid of this so I can found the Deluxe. I would say the condition is as new, no marks or scratches that I can see. It's only done one rehearsal, on top of my amp. I have put the stick on rubber feet on but of course they can be removed. Includes box and everything else that came with it. Happy to supply photos if needed, although I haven't taken any yet. Lookinf for a firm £140, either collection from central London or posted to mainland UK. Cheers. Dave.
19. Anyway, I really did want to talk about the Vanderkley if anyone has one. I started a thread last year about getting a 1x15 and ended up with BF. The 15MN6 was recommended to me a few times, and I just want to get that out of my system really. The BB2 issue I posted about wasn't really meant to be the topic, this is really not the reason I'm looking at the 1x15.
20.
Yeah I get where your coming from, but a small boost of those frequencies may help your out front definition/punch, surely worth a try at least I would have thought.
I have done that already but I do admit I can spend a bit more time on it. The only thing I don't want to do is change the tone too much. As I'm standing faily close that's the tone I want, adding more high mid will make things a bit too harsh IME.
21.
You could try dialing in a bit of upper mid boost in the EQ around say 4-5khz - this would essentially emulate a typical "voiced" bass cab.
Cheers. Yes but my issue isnt being able to get a good tone, it's getting the good tone I have out in to the room.
22.
You've only go tot listen to some of the solo'd big-name bass stuff out there on YT to hear that some bass tones that work very well in a live mix sound very harsh solo'd. Geddy and JE spring to mind instantly, but there are others. I've routinely fired my rig up at home the following day after a gig where I've had to EQ a bit and winced at the sound I ended up with, but which sounded great in that room with the band.
Yep, that's what I was going to say. A mix can certainly cover up the true tone of the bass. John, I do agree with you, I've got my tone just how I like it, but need the audience to hear it. I'm happy to tweak the amp a bit to help project this tone, but as I've been playing for a long time I won't be in a position where the gear dictates that I change my playing style. It's worked with every rig I've owned, I'd expect it to with my current rig. I'm going to try a few of the suggestions in this thread at next weeks rehearsal, they may well be the solution. As this is probably the flattest sounding cab I've ever owned it could well be I do need to adjust my amp in a slightly different way. I have no issue with hearing myself, nor being heard, it's just that I want what I hear to be close to what the audience hear. Maybe as Alex said, I just need to turn it up a bit more.
23.
Be careful, I've never made it out of there without a huge dent in my wallet! I know Mark and Marcus both speak very highly of the Vanderkley stuff, and they are both very knowledgeable chaps.
I'm very much GAS free at the moment, other than intrigued by these cabs, but as we know, GAS can hit at any time.
24.
Please do. Alex was right in his first post. If the sound changes from in front of to 10 feet in front of the cab, it's nothing to do with the amp: it's a dispersion problem.
Yeah, that made sense expect I know I'm louder than I have even been in the past, even in the rehearsal room, as things are falling off the amp. I'll try moving the amp as far back from me as I can at the next rehearsal and see if that helps. I do normally do try and get it further back but then I stand close to it. Maybe I also need to shut my drummer up a bit. It's him that dictates the ovall volume we play at, but let's not go there in this thread :-)
