1. Yeah, no rush now, although I'd still like to get away from the 1212L sooner rather than later. It's like Groundhog Day when it comes to cabs, I keep going back to the 1212L even though I don't want to.
2.
It is a brilliant cab! I love mine. Sorry it didn't suit your needs Dave
Im glad i tried. If i didnt have another cab to fall back on i think i would have kept it, but with the 1212L still sitting here selling the BF is the right thing to do right now. Im out of the 30 day trial period, so i think this is the only option. I did email BF to explain things, even asked about trading it back and getting a different cab from them, but they didnt offer to take it back.Thats fine though, they are under no obligation to do so.
3. Id rather not post just yet, its just easier if i can get a local buyer. If nothing happens in the next week or so ill consider posting, i have all the packaging, but the buyer will need to make all the arrangements as far as that goes. Ill drop the price slightly of course. For now though, pick up only.
4. Unfortunately i dont think this was the right cab for me. Its exactly as Alex describes it on his website, and on paper i thought it would be a good choice, but im missing the more modern tones im used to. Ive given it 3 rehearsals and while i get some great tones out of it i dont think its going to be right for the more up to date songs we intend to start doing. I did get a VTBass DI to add some sparkle and this has worked a treat, i love this preamp, but at the end of the day im going back to what i know for now and re evaluate. I still want shot of the 1212L but It doesn't help that my guitarist is quitting after the next gig, so i might not even need a cab after that.
5. Thanks, Indeed it is. Its the best cab ive played through for a long time, especially with my VTbass going in to it, but i just keep going back to my 1212L for some reason, even though its not that great lol. Probably try a BF again soon though.
6. I got this cab new from BF at the beginning of Aug this year. Its a lovely cab and sounds exactly as the website says. Unfortunately its just not for me. I need something with more sparkle..i think. The low end is amazing on this cab, very solid and clear, but its a bit too much for me. Its only been used at a few rehearsals, and so is in great condition (the flash used makes it look a bit grubby though). It also comes with a ROQSOLID cover. This wraps around the whole cab so helps keep some of the underneath clean as well. I paid £479 for the cab (this included postage) and £61 for the cover. Looking for £420 ONO and pick up only from central london. Appreciate this is a bit high but the cover wasnt cheap, and i need to sell it along with the cab. 7.
Well we're planning another little get together when Ewan's new ACG arrives in a month or so, you should join us this time
I expect i will have sold my RT10 by then :-(. Had another rehearsal last night, this time with the VTBass as well to liven things up, and it sounded much better, but this got me thinking that im now forcing the cab to produce a brighter tone, which my 1212L already did. Love the cab for what it does to the low end, and on a lot of songs its just perfect, but i think ill need to go back to my 1212L for a while and re evaluate things. I'd love to stick with Barefaced though and i expect a SC will be on the cards later.
8. Not sure. Ive never looked on ebay. I might have to as a last resort though. As i said above, the only issue is the depth of the amp. Most cases/bags wont accommodate this amp. Cheers.
9.
My point is that some people know something is wrong but they never find out what..so they never fix it.
That definitely applies to me and my 1212L. Its the one thing i never really changed, while everything around it was and i was still not happy. Im now hearing my gear closer to what i have wanted, although its still not quite there. Better than it has been for the past 4-5 years though.
10. My new band are doing a lot of 60,70's covers, so in my mind getting a cab with a vintage vibe made sense. And it works a treat. On the flip side it's maybe not the ideal tone for me, even though it fits the songs and overal tone of the band. So I dont feel I made a mistake, just that it will take a bit of getting used to, and I may decide I can't get used to it. it's definitly not woolly though, it's more a tone that you would get from old speaker cabs rather than a modern, fairly neutral tone. Definitly not something you would like John.
11. I was looking at the Gator ones but they arent deep enough. Its really only to go back and forth form the car, not getting chucked in to van etc. We are just replacing our old SKB as its fallen apart. Only had it a few years. I could get another (the one i linked to will fit) but id rather a bag as they are easier to carry. The other option is to get a new amp to fit the bag. Not as silly as it sounds as we do want a lighter amp and need to pay our ex guitarist for this one if we keep it, its definitely an option. Cheers.
12. Im really struggling to find a 19" rack bag/case that will fit my Peavy PA amp. The issue is the amp is 410mm deep (front to back). This doesn't seem to be a standard size. Id prefer a rack bag, and 3U so i can fit a GE in it, but it looks like i might have to settle for a 2U ABS case. I dont really want a 3U case and i can do without the GE if i have to. Price is an issue though. Looking to keep it under £60 is possible. This seems to be ok but i thought id ask here about bags first. 13.
Judging by people definition of vintage on these pages, describing any cab as such is like the kiss of death.
In this case its spot on, although i believe the "retro" is getting dropped from the name soon. its definitely got that old school sound. A bit broken up, but in a smooth way, definitely not "woolly" Ashdown though ;-). It has top end, but i dont think you will really get a horrible tinny tone out of it, no matter how hard you try. I had a bass player come in from the next studio to ask to borrow a lead (bass player eh :-), he said he could hear the bass through the walls (they aren't that thick) and loved using that stack in the corner. I pointed out i wasn't using the 4x12 and large head, but the small rig sitting next to it. He was very impressed and said he was getting one. Never seen him down there since so i have no idea if he did or not. Mine is the lightest cab ive ever owned, even lighter than my MAG combo (by a lot). I wouldnt mind if it was heavier, although not too much. Picking up my 1212L i can feel a huge difference, and thats a neo cab as well.
14.
Well the CTM30/LB30 is an epic amp as you know. Through the Super Compact (1x12) it sounds big and has that modern bite. Through the Retro Two10 the vibe is definitely more vintage, but it's beautifully even and polite. Where the SC barks as the valves go into overdrive, the Retro Two10 gets nasty in a more refined manner. It still snarls and I have to say it sounds glorious but it isn't so "shouty" if that makes sense? I honestly felt quite tempted to look into switching out my SCs for the Two10s. I reckon the LB30 and Two10 are a match made in heaven based on the little experimentation we did yesterday. I'd be interested to hear Stew's and Ewan's views too though
This is quite a useful report. Although i like my RT10, and i definitely need to give it a few gigs, it sounds like i might need a SC instead. I find the vintage tone a bit too vintage for me, although that might just be because of what ive been used to. The deep low end is taking a bit of getting used to so far. I also miss the sparkle im used to, although ive gone and got a VTBass DI to liven things up a bit. I do love the extended low end, its great actually hearing a low C clearly, although im back to 4 sting this week :-). The SC seems to be more what im used to judging by your's and Eudes posts, and i think this might be my next cab
15.
That works but reduces the output level even more. I found the BDI21 could only fully drive my power amp (1.24V sensitivity) with bass boosted.
Indeed, its not ideal, although ive never boosted the bass on either my BDDI or BDI-21 anyway. Ive always run them with blend on about 10 0'clock, just enough to add some depth and girth (giggady rather than full on emulation.
16.
Those of you who like a mid control on the BDI21, is this for further scooping? If not, I wonder is there a big difference between turning up the (modded) mid control, and turning down the bass and treble?
Not for scooping, but for bringing back the lost mid freqs. Tech 21 suggest that yes, turning both bass and treble together gives the effect of raising the mids, although IME thats not the same or as convent as having a dedicated Mid knob.
17. One more thing i would consider, is the VTBass DI, as this also has a blend knob on it. Ive got the BDI-21 and a VTbass (v1) at home at the moment, and they are quite different beasts. Ive also had 2 BDDI's over the past 6 years. Tone wise the BDDI and BDI-21 are very similar, although i actually prefer the cheaper one as its a bit brighter. Ive also had a Paradriver, i got that for the mid control, but didnt keep that long. It was good but not quite the same tone as the BDDI and i preferred that tone. I have tired the VTbass and BDI-21 together at home and the VTbass sounded so good ive just brought the DI version off someone on here. The blend is very useful IMO, and while the VTBass sounds awesome the DI seems a lot more versatile, plus of course it has the DI out. Its not cheap of course, but i feel the XLR out and the Blend make it worth the extra over the old version. Given the choice, the VTBass seems a lot more complete as a pre amp to me, but ill never part with my BDI-21.
18.
Do let me know when you want to shift it on...... Just don't tell the missus
:-)
19.
Im relieved
Yeah, cheers, good call. I doubt ill have it this time next year but for now its doing fine (not yet gigged it though).
20. Thanks Dave, nice to meet you earlier. I hope you enjoy the pedal. Also a big thanks to the other interested parties, especially those who wanted it posted abroad for less than asking,. Worth a try i suppose but im confused at why you would bother asking.
21. Yep, apples and pears. The 1212L sounds pokey and more open, the BF sounds very round and, well vintage. The low end from the BS is very deep, but clear. It definitely has a more traditional tone overall, and handles a low B very well. Not really a cab that you can slap with (not that i do a lot), and not a cab that will give a piano tone. Its quite a warm tone, and although there is top end its not in the same class as the very clear 1212L. It is good for what i need though, but i expect this time next year ill have one of the larger BF cabs.I have a feeling im going to find it just a bit too retro if we start doing more up to date songs. The reason i was looking at the VT500 was to get rid of needing my VMTD, and this cab has actual solved the problem for now.
22. Talking of BF, ive now come to the conclusion that my Retro two 10 has enough warmth and vintage vibe that i dont actually need a warmer head now. In fact im selling my Darkglass and wont even need a BDDI any more.
23. Ah yes, off course, the 305 is 5 string. I missed that, thought you had put 304. I wish there was a 5 string M3.
24. I had a TRBX505 and it was a nice bass. I tried the 305 as well and thought that sounded better, but i wanted more control over the tone, and the active/passive switch. I did feel the 505 sounded bland, but maybe that like a blank canvas. It certainly did the job for almost a year. Mark mentioned about the Sire basses, and IMO the Sire M3 is a lot closer to the TRBX than the V7. If its humbuckers you want then the Sire M3 is worth a look IMO. The pre amp is better than the TRBX, and its a lot cheaper.
25. I dont want to derail this thered but I believe if it was brought in the EU (might just be UK though) it should be good for a free fix for a good few years, 4 or 5 I believe. Although manufacturers mostly give 12 month warranty (what, don't they trust their own goods to last lol) UK sale of good acts says it's much longer. So what I'm saying is if you don't have to junk it, or pay to get it fixed.
