1. Im thinking of getting a Lakland bass from here http://www.musik-produktiv.co.uk I normally use Thomanns but they don't seem to stock Laklands anymore.
2. If you are using nonstandard pitch does this mean the whole band has to also use this tuning? I'm very intrigued as to why people want to do this though.
3. I have the Peterson strobo clip tuner thTs is very accurate but it's not something I take to a gig as it's not cheap and feels a bit fragile. I mostly use the small headstock tuners that stay out of sight. Saying that I can't remember the last time I needed a tuner on stage anyway, my basses just seem to stay in tune, so it's more there for me to look at and try and make up words as Im playing :-)
4. Yeah, that's how I see it, although as all the strings are different gauges to what I used to use I would think the tone would also be a bit more even string to string. Maybe not so much that it's noticable though.
5. Have a look at post #62. It has a test video on a 5 string bass. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/a-tc-polytune-clip-on-and-its-better-than-ever-and-it-works-for-bass.1158769/page-4
6. I love these strings. I now have them on all my basses. I was a bit worried about a .107 E string but after the first strum i was hooked. Ive used nickel XL's for years, and to be honest i dont really hear any overall balance difference (if there is supposed to be one) but the overall feel is really nice and i find it quite inspiring.
7. Strangely enough i was just reading the thread over on TB about these. They look pretty good. Not sure id replace my Peterson clip on tuner but for £35 i might get one to keep in my gig bag. There is at least one review in that thread on TB, although its not a glowing one.
8.
Thpp! I know, but I've owned a Sire V7 so am used to it...
IMO the Sire is not even in the same league as the G&L abominations :-)
9. Haha, that BC crap as you call it is what keeps BC going :-). Without all that all we would have is a boring old gear forum. I love listening to Weller, especially every other week on Eastenders when he is playing on the "radio". Gotta give the man credit for his integrity lol.
10.
Some people really need to get over theirselves
What does that mean?
11. Mark, my Squier CV P neck is sitting in a cupboard at the moment. You are welcome to borrow the neck for a bit if you can find a body for it.
12. I too prefer Jazz necks. Ive used my Squier CV jazz neck on almost all my 4 string basses since i got it. Its a neck i wouldn't part with. I even have a maple Lakland JO neck on my CV Jazz so i can use the Jazz neck on my CV P (everybody keeping up lol). What i love about the CV necks is the fret size. I love those small frets (the JO neck also has them).
13. Ive had my CV Jazz since they were released and ive had issue with it (or the neck in general) at all. Probably done 200+ gigs with it.
14. With the drivel Weller has been putting out for the past 10+ years i wouldn't blame Buckler for saying no just based on musical grounds.
15. I almost turned it off when it was on TV, but glad i didnt. Im not really a lover of one man band acts, but i really enjoyed that. I liked his phrasing, it reminded me of someone else (who i cant think of right now). EDIT: Petshop boys :-)
16. Actually the one thing I had to do to both my Squire CV basses was to change the bridge. I felt uncomfortable with the 20mm string spacing so put Gotoh 201 bridges on both. The other mods were more for fun, although I do like the Wizard pups better than the stock jazz pups.
17.
Most players set the saddle, trust rod etc. I noticed there's a slight curve on my jazz bass neck due to chunky roto strings i use. Of course it plays out the box, but everyone talks about setting up. I personally lower the action.
Well yes, but most player do this to get the bass feeling and playing as they want it. you dont HAVE to do this and not everyone dives straight in with all this. Wait until you put your Rotos on and then see what needs doing. Sounds like you know how to lower the saddles anyway. Start with that.
18.
I have ordered one too. I ordered a white one, they delivered a black one yesterday. The box even said vintage white. I called the shop and they should deliver one tomorrow. Another day wasted waiting, hopefully itll e worth it. How do I set up the bass. Never set one up.
Well what needs setting up? Is it not playable out of the box?
19.
If you swapped the body, would it still be a Matt Freeman?
Im not really sure what makes it a Matt Freeman sig model anyway, other than the name on the headstock. I mean, its a standard P bass as far as i can see. Also, im pretty sure he only plays it in one colour, so the other colour is just there to help sell the bass IMO. Not that im complaining, i just cant figure out what makes it special. Im not a lover of P necks, but as has been mentioned already, the CV necks have a certain feel that makes them very comfortable to play, and the smaller frets really add the icing to the cake for me. When i picked my CVP up after a year of playing 5 strings i loved how narrow the neck felt. It took me a while to realise it still had its original neck on it. Now it has the Jazz neck its easily my Fav bass (other than the colour still). Ive been tempted to look for a trade, but also tempted to just buy a MF and sell off the neck. Saying that, if i got the White/Maple version then id probably use it like that as well. gotta love that combo. I wish Squier would bring out something with a maple jazz neck in the CV line. I did have a VM but never really liked it. The neck felt a lot cheaper than the CV necks and the frets were bigger.
20. Agree about all the good things said about these Squiers (MF and CV). Ive got a CV P and Jazz, and find I have no lust or GAS for anything better in P or Jazz form, other than another Lakland Duck Dunn (4464c). To me the necks on these Squiers can put anything to shame. Small perfectly seated frets, lovely gloss finish and perfect neck profiles. Actually. I'm not a lover of P necks, so the Cv Jazz neck ends up going on whatever bass I'm currently using. In fact I need to get another one at soe point. I've been playing 5 string for almost the past year, but on earlier this week I dug the CVP out and Instantly the 5 strings have gone back in their bags. I do have a Lakland JO neck on my CV Jazz, and as much as I love it I want a Squier CV jazz neck on that as well. As I'm playing my P bass now the original CV jazz neck is on that. Now my one big, big issue about the CVP is the colour. I can't stand fiesta red. I struggle to even look at that bass. If it didn't sound and play so well I'd never use it. I'd like to get a Matt Freeman body to replace the CV body, but for now that's a bit extravigent. I tried a VM PJ but never felt it was in the same league. It was nice and looked lovely but never had the heft the CV has. Not even with the same pup and even same neck on it.
21. Good god, people actually pay to see this band? Never a fan of the band anyway but this was one of the most boring performances I've seen for years.
22. Why not ask those in the huge Sire thread what they think ;-)
23. I wonder if he still has it :-)
24. And so you should be. Ive started using my 505 again and this time round im getting on with it much better. Still not too keen on the B string (compared to my Sire V7) but its so easy to play.
