Compact mixing desks - what are you using?
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Must admit the L-12 looks very tempting for my band. I see no need for a desk upgrade at the moment, if it works it works so why change it?, but if i can convince them to go to IEM’s then it looks perfect. -

No sure if this would help, but have you tried your Boss wireless with that mixer? We know the Boss doesn't have an issue. -

I still say it’s faulty. You shouldn’t be forced to do any of this IME. Both ours are plugged in to our desk without any buzz or interference. Granted its not a digital desk like yours, but if your U4 is that sensitive id at least get it swapped over for a new one, just to confirm its normal. -

Well i don’t use them personally, but both member of my band have had this issue. I guess they need to be more careful and not just accept it. I will have more words 😎 -

No problem. if I wasn’t using an ambient mic I’d still be using the little Behringer desk, but as good as it is it lacked this one feature. -

Yeah, I looked at that a while ago. Not going to work and too expensive. The Mackie i got is perfect. I can route any channel to only phones/main or both. Very handy. -

Well as Dawn has them already and I’ve tried them I still prefer my MEE’s. I think I have said that in the main IEM thread at some point. I do find them a bit harsh and cold, but that’s with keys so maybe they are better for bass and guitar. Actually I cancelled that order and got the X version instead. Might as well get something slightly different. I don’t plan on using them as my main IEM, they seem a bit heavier and less secure, but I may find at some point I’ll use them. At least I’ll have a back up. I’ll probably get a better cable as well. I can’t remember what I got Dawn but I remember it being highly recommended at the time. It certainly seems to hang better than the OEM one. -

I finally gave in to the AliExpress offer and ordered a set of ZS 10 Pros. It sounds silly but i found a box of Sonicfoam ear tips that i got ages ago by mistake for my MEE’s, which were the wrong size. These are the SF1’s which apparently fit the ZS 10’s, so rather than have them go to waste lol. -

The problem is the on/off switch is very, very easily nudged when it’s in something that allows it to move around or something else moving against it. -

Makes sense. I wish I liked the ZS pros more. They just seem a bit heavy and more clumsy in my odd ears. I also love the stiff wire that hooks over the ears on mine. If I didn’t have the ones I have I’d have brought yours, but for now I think I’m settled. -

Forgot to say. I think I’ve found the best fitting tips for my ears. I got some Comply Comfort tips in large. These are the more oval shaped ones. Wide but shallower than the standard models. They seem to fill out better and hopefully stay in longer. In all my years of playing I’ve never found a reason (other than health of course) to stick anything in my ears at rehearsals, but now I have to so I can hear myself, but also because the studio we occasionally use means I have the band facing me. It’s a small room and my Apple watch registers over 100db on its sound meter 😬 The guitarists only use small 1x12 combos, but my god it’s like a wall of sound when I take the ear buds out (or rather they come lose). -

I knew I wasn’t going mad. https://www.thomann.de/gb/xvive_t9_in_ear_monitors.htm It’s looks like Thomann are the only place selling them. -

I may have got it wrong. I was looking for IEM’s and was scrolling through loads when I saw them. It said Xvive but could have been listed wrong. -

No, I mean the actual in earbud’s, not the wireless system. Not sure where I saw them, but I was surprised that I did as I haven’t seen them on the Xvive website. -

We have two members of the band using them now. No interference issues with either. I noticed the other day there are Xvive IEM’s as well. Not heard much talk about them. -

My money is on faulty. Send it back. If you cant use it under normal conditions it’s either not worth it, or broken. Id have said maybe the Boss is interfering with it, being so close, but if your singer has already tried everything it has nothing to do with your set up IMO. -
Just updating this as ive just got my second MODX, a MODX7+. The only negative i had with the MODX6 was i could do with more keys. Now im gigging i feel the 61 keybed is a bit restricting when playing piano type parts. More memory is also a most welcome, i can now load more sounds without having to keep moving things around. It’s been a fun 2 1/2 years, and im now firmly in the \don’t pick the bass up anymore’ camp……..for now. MODX6 pictured with the 7. I’ll be selling the MODX6 soon though, as my Fantom 06 takes top spot.

Ok. I just had a look at the UE900. Price wise i could afford them, but they look a bit big for my flat ears. I know as custom shell would help with that, but a re shell would not happen straight away. And impossible to get as far as i can see. -

Thanks, thats an interesting read. Seems like there is a lot involved behind the scenes. I would be very surprised if china isn’t involved in any mass manufacture these days, but I understand its how its all put together that counts. My IME’s have 2xBA and one dynamic driver. It gives me the sound i like. Ive never tried any high end ones but, these do sound good for my key’s so i have no need to get anything else unless there is a fit improvement. The one above mine had 3xBA and a dynamic driver. On paper it’s aimed more for my use, but i just felt it lacked a bit of body. I guess you just cant tell until you try them. They were only £130 so still budget as such, but thats all i need for now. -

Sorry, what does BA mean? Not that it’s important but it looks like MEE are based in California, at least thats what they say. So not a Chinese company by the looks of it. EDIT: Forget the BA thing, i re read your post and know what it means. -

Ah right. Ok, but sorry to labour the point, I like what i hear no matter where it comes from (and we have no way of knowing where MEE get their drivers i suppose, could be the same?). As you say, they supply all round the world, inc china. Anyway, it’s all good to know. I didnt like the MEE 4 driver option either so maybe 3 is just the sweet spot. -

Don't they all come from China anyway? i didn't mean to infer the KZ’s were flat as such, just that playing piano through them i felt there was something missing compared to some of the others i tried. Maybe the slight dip in the mids were why I felt them sounding harsh.
