1. Yeah, not what you might expect from EMG IMO. I dont have a need to sound like Geezer but its definitely a tone i can work with. Price looks pretty reasonable (based on the USA price of course).
2. Sorry if his has already been discussed, i dont come on here much these days. Ive just noticed these are due out in a couple of months. I was looking to change the jazz pup in my PJ (again) and was going ot go for the usual options but im going to hold out for this set now. 3.
But the point is that if you want a quiet home then don't move in to a home close to an established live music venue
Maybe in an ideal world, and i really do get the point that this guy knew it was a venue, but if people are living close to a music venue the venue should take some responsibility and help alleviate this situation. It seems its not the noise itself, but the volume of it that is the issue. Noise pollution is not something that most will tolerate these days, and a lot of places are having to compromise by getting sound meters in. Its not ideal for anyone but if this venue is so close to peoples homes they should do whatever it takes to bring the noise down. These houses have been built close to the venue, and people will live in them. its a sign of the times im afraid. A compromise has to be made.
4. Signed, even though i live in London and cant here it lol. I do think if a music venue is operating in a close residential environment they should be made to do as much as possible to ensure the noise is not an issue for those that choose not to want to hear it. I do hope they can stay open but its not so silly that someone wants a quite home.
5.
Always used Photobox myself, never been disappointed.
Yep, same here. Funny thing is i work for a printers and run the large £150,000 colour machine we have, yet i still go to Photobox for all my prints
6. Cheers. I think im still in a good mood after last nights gig, it wont last lol.
7. No problem. Its been sitting around for ages unused and i know ill never use it again. Ill have a look for it today and hopefully post it out tomorrow. No need for any payments, ill get it posted through my firm :-)
8. Forgot to add, if i can find mine you can have it if you want it.
9. I brought the cable when it first came out. Its over priced although it works The problem with it is that its just an input, and takes over the headphoe socket. So although it works fine for a tuner you cant hear anything back so usless for recording.
10. I hated the iRig interface when i had one. It seemed very noisy and not at all what the ad's promised. I was forever having to adjust levels and my playing style just to get a useable tone. I splashed out on the JAM, its not cheap but it was much nicer to use and a lot more fun. The tone is a lot more solid sounding, and with less latency. I can understand you not wanting to pay that much, i was the same, butt he hassle the iRig caused almost made me give up on doing this sort of thing. I love the Apmkit software, it has some really good rig and IMO its the best of the lot if you are looking for authentic tones, although the GK app is pretty nice as well. Since getting my ZoomB3 ive not touched the JAM, but now i have a new ipad and iphone it doesn't fit anyway.
11.
So I just got an iPad from Santa and I was wondering what are the best and most useable apps for a budding musician. I don't have a mac book but if I could do some basic recording on this thing that would be awesome. Thanks dudes. Merry Christmas.
I'm sure you know this but Ive just remembered you can get GarageBand for free with all new IOS devices, so that should really be a no brainier.
12. The 5 string CA would be the first choice, the blue is just something id like at some point so im not too worried at the moment.
13. Oh my, that's a lovely finish. I would be very tempted If they did them with maple finger boards.
14. Have you tried googling it ;-)
15. Actually thinking about it my issue isn't so much the pickgiard, it's that slider switch as well. It reminds me of a cheap guitar.
16. What's all this about a tone control on a bass, is this a new thing lol. Must admit I like the slight bass boost you get with the traditional wiring, and when I got my last HW-One Bass I was all set to re wire it to take it back to traditional, but I actually found it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I fact I found the lack of that low end mud a bit easier to control on hollow stages. IME it's only a very subtle difference, although it's definitely audible. Way off topic but what is the Ti flats reference about?
17. Yes, I found my SBMM Ray34 a lot more comfortable than the SUB I had, although given the choice I wish I had kept the SUB now.
18. MY Squier VM PJ with a BWB plate on. IMO this is the best for a 3TSB, i dont like Tort unless its on a white Jazz. so i was over the moon that this came as standard. 19. Well none of the other threads are locked, yet full of the info you want so........;-)
20. Yep. I got a BDI21 a few years ago when I had a one off gig without a rig. Big PA and big monitors so I thought what the hell, I'll sell it afterwards. I actually ended up keeping it, and although I did try it at a few gigs with my rig I really didn't get on with it. It was only a few years later when I decided to sell it that I tried it again, just to make sure it was working. This time I backed the blend knob off and bang, there was that tone that I had been looking for. Since then I've not really looked back. I only really got the BDDI as like the look of it, and as it sits on my amp I have no need for a foot switch looking device. I did have some time with a Parardriver last year but as good as that was it just didn't do it for me. Not sure if it's been mentioned but there are actually two versions of the BDDI, a MKI and MKII. The MKII has more switches on it and is more versatile as far as outputs go. Then of course there is the programable version.
21. I think we will have a few months wait yet but I dont see why we won't get them. It does seem like the cost of the SBMM range has jumped up since the first models came out (I paid £450 for my ray34), I'd expect these to be closer to £800 so probably won't sell too well over here.
22. I thought I had getting another SBMM out of my system until that popped up. Nice isn't it?
23. Ive been using a BDDI fo ra few years now. It just seems to bring my rig to life. A bit like having an active bass....but not lol. I tend to keep the bass and treble more or less in the centre, Blend (the most important knob on the device) at about 9 - 10 o'clock, presence off and gain about 9 o'clock. I dont have it for any amp sim or distortion, just to being things to life a bit and give a bit more depth. Its on al the time and if i need to tweak my EQ i tend to do it on this rather than my amp most of the time. Ive never noticed the lack of mids, but then i dont have the blend up too high so im still getting a lot of the un effected tone mixed in. My rig is also quite pokey so the BDDI actually helps smooth things out a bit. Its also nice having the XLR out, and it being powered off our desk. You cant do this with the BDI21. I recently started using a Zoom B3 and lately a Zoom 60-B. These have a BDDI sim, and Zoom has even included a mid control for this. I still find myself not using that knob, just dont have the need. Ive also got a BDI-21, which i never use but i started out with this. Slightly different tones but all really in the same ball park and all are very interchangeable IME. Saying that, for me the BDDI is the first choice, not least because it has a very slightly warmer and fatter tone, but i really only hear that with headphones on at home. In fact the digital versions produce less boom on some of our stages. As a side note the Zoom pedal's come with simulations of a few of these devices, BDDI, MXR etc, so i can almost test each one out without having to buy individual boxes. To me the BDDI is still the best, but as you can see i dont really use it to its full potential (and dont like OD/distortion on bass anyway). EDIT: Getting back to the mid cut thing. Its not a mid cut as such, its just that you can only boost the low and high, and so the mids do become weaker the higher you go with the other controls (and they are very powerful, and interactive). Adjusting both high and low slightly to the left brings the mids back. At least, this is how Tech21 explained it to me.
24.
Nice one. thanks guys.
Not being funny but have you looked in to any of the many Squier threads on here yet? I'd have though there was already more than enough info about the current Squier's on here already to give you the answer you are looking for. My opinion, for what its worth is these are more than just back up/home basses. Ive gigged Squier's exclusively for the past 4 year now and have no intention of spending any more than these cost on a bass in the future. I just don't see the need.
25. Hmmm, I've just started to feel pain in my fretting wrist, and this coinsides whith me raising my strap. Timely thread and food for thought.
