That's racist, isn't it..?
No, not unless you say it twice ;-)

An ugly bass is an ugly bass, no matter how well its looked after (IMO)

That it would never be stolen from a gig, no matter how often it was left out at the end of the night at a Pikey festival.

I expet my 74's will even more rare now, not that they are going anyway either.
It's always such a shame when someone like Andy retires without someone to pass it all on to. All that knowledge and experience, all gone
Andy's magic live on in our basses, we are the privileged ones :-)

Classic party tracks from the last 10 years?!
dave_bass5 replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
Mustang Sally In all seriousness ive never seen an empty dance floor when this is played (CD or band). We have a load (20+) of those master mix DJ albums on our iPod, and these cover almost any occasion. They aren't the ones where tracks lead in to each other, just compilations of different genres, like Party, 70's, 80's party, one hit wonders, Irish, pub, football, indie, Northern soul etc. Well worth having a look at, even if you dont buy them. -
I do feel that Rush have been very "samey" for the past decade. As much as i like them they seem to have stuck with a formula that, to me, is wearing a bit thin. Great musicians though, but i wouldn't pay to go and see them any more.
There's an obvious reply to this, but I'm not going to say it.
No, i wont say it either ;-)

Yes, it was uploaded almost 3 years ago. i bet he is really good by now Cant stand the first bit though. I cant understand why bass players feel the need to do that, other than to impress non bass players. He definitely has a talent though. -
i've just bought a line 6 G30, not had a chance to try it out as i only took possetion last night but so far i'm impressed with the simplicity and the design, having the reciever on my pedalboard is a big plus point for me. i'm going to give it a try at my band practice tonight. Matt
I got one a few weeks ago to replace my 5 year old AKG system. Although ive never had any issues with the AKG, the G30 is a lot nicer to use. I love the fact that i can see the battery indicator on the receiver, the longer battery life, the fact that i dont have to set anything up (like antennas) and the fact that seems to have a much longer reach. It wasnt cheap, but i think it will last me for a good few years.

Another vote for these. Although i do prefer high mass bridges i still have a vintage style Fender bridge that i felt was the best of its kind.

A real shame indeed. I love the 74's in my Jazz and am so glad i had the chance to see what all the fuss was about. Andy has made some real gems, good for him that he can now put his feet up, knowing he has the respect of many of us around the world.
Always comes across as a top guy in interviews that I have seen... and he is such a musical player. There is sheer technique and then there is musicality to take it to the next level...he has loads of both, IMO.
Im assuming by the "musical player" comment that you aren't talking about Lemmy
You can power the pedal by USB apparantly, but i imagine it would need to be a USB port with a fair bit of power to it. My laptop USB isn't powerful enough to charge an iPad, and i doubt it would be powerful enough to power a pedal.
Not wanting to go off topic here but if you install a small app called Asus Ai Charger this will boost the voltage of any USB port your iPad is plugged in to, and allow you to charge the ipad. The iPad needs 10watts, most USB ports put out 5watts i believe. Its perfectly safe, ive been using it for a couple of years on all my PC's.
I think you've mistaken me for another poster. I haven't uttered a word of criticism against your bass. What I said was that the graphite basses are a totally different instrument. Not quite sure how you make the jump to the copies being unplayable. CB
Well i posted in defence of mine, and your post followed mine with the statement "Once you've played an original graphite Steinberger, you'll see what we mean" Sorry if i got that wrong but im not sure what else to make of the "we mean" bit, other than that you are agreeing with the previous poster about something. You also said "I'm sure the modern wooden basses may be totally fine", so again, im assuming you are referring to my bass and i responded with that it was, and while the real thing will probably be better somehow, it doesn't take anything away from my bass being fine as well.. I meant no offence, but it seemed to me your comments were directed at me, and that you were agreeing with someone else's comments. No harm done. Im not trying to start an argument, just pointing out that i have no issues with the wooden bass. -
Once you've played an original graphite Steinberger, you'll see what we mean. CB
No, i dont think i will. If i don't have any issues with the one i have i dont see how i suddenly will by playing the real deal. I have played the real thing, and im in no way comparing the two, but with all due resptect just because its made of wood doesn't not make it an unplayable bass. -

Funny, i never suffered from any neck, intonation or tuning issues with mine. I probably did around 50 gigs with the one i posted above. -
We used to rehearse at the same place L42 did in the early days. After a while we used to get to the rehearsal room quite a bit earlier, just to sit outside and listen to them. Not a huge L42 fan these days but i have a lot of time for them, and Mark seems to be a genuinely nice bloke, not big headed at all (i would be if i had his talent)

Not pitch but i do find the top end goes by the last set.

Wilko Johnson at Wickham Festival (Yesterday)
dave_bass5 replied to Count Bassy's topic in General Discussion
I used to go and see him at the Fox on Palmers Green and the Sir George Robey at Finsbury Park. I know nothnig about him when i first saw him, and to be honest really couldn't name many of his songs now, but he, and his band, were one of only a few that have kept me memorised for a whole gig. Like you, i tend to come away "yeah, its was ok..." but never Wilko's gigs. Good times. Completely agree about Norman as well. That guy just seems so natural at what he does. Never flash for flash sake, but so enjoyable to listen to. I'd much rather listen to him than some (most) of the big names, Jaco included. -

My son loves my Spirit bass...and so do i. Im really not sure about Nigel's comment about them being poor, each to his own of course, but i love the EMG selects. I even had one in my old Squier JV bass for a while. Having owned 3 Spirits, and the Honer version i much preferred the passive Spirit tones. New Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Accessories and Misc
Seems like we all agree its s great, cheap bit of kit. I've still got my Peterson Stroboclip (£69) but the only time I ever use it is for setting intonation, as the display is a lot more accurate. Last night I had all 3 clip on tuners, plus my B3 tuner on and all were more or less spot on. -
Just how good is the Fender CS Pino Precision?
dave_bass5 replied to tredders's topic in Bass Guitars
Ah the law of diminishing returns eh I think CS guitars and basses are aimed at people with a lot of money to spare.
Im not adverse to spending a fortune on a bass (i wish i had the spare change to do it), but at this price point you can get a 100% customised bass, so why buy a more or less bog standard P bass? I think a lot of basses are also sold to people who just sit at home and play. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course. -

I think most can justify things to ourselves, and if enjoyment is one of them then that fine. I have a £2000 DSLR that in no way could i justify owning, other than it brings me a lot of enjoyment. But do i need it? Nope. Can i get away with a cheaper camera? Hell yes. So my point is i would fail to understand that someone has to buy this, as nothnig else will do. As already been mentioned, its a P bass, how much do you really NEED to spend to get a tone and feel of a P bass. I find the spec's very close to the CVP, even to the point of having vintage style frets. I understand the wood is nicer, but is it better, and in what way? I bet Pino wouldn't worry about using a CVP if he had to :-)
