1. Yes, definitely a difference. The bass had more body to it, more low end punch and just sounded better IMO. Saying that, i dont have the Thumper in any more, I have a Fender Original 62RI and i much prefer this pup. Its not quite as dark sounding, but still a big improvement over the stock pup and sounds more "woody" to my ears, while still having a nice low end thump.
2. Ive still got mine, its my only gigging bass now and i cant see it going anywhere in the foreseeable future.
3.
To be fair, we don't know what's gone on behind the scenes. Presumably the OP does, and he seems happy enough, so maybe it can be filed under 'extenuating circumstances'. Forgiveness is one of the more pleasant human traits.
I agree, its done and dusted. What i cant get over though is that the guy had visited BC a few times during this time. The only thing i can think of is that he forgot how to type .
4. Having just read thought this thread i tend to agree with the old fashioned bloke. Yes, its a good outcome for the OP, but it should be remembered that the other bloke had been on here more than once without any contact with the OP, knew what was going on as he had been messaged by a Mod and ignored it. He gave the OP a hard time and if not for the wonderful help of a few people on here the OP might never have got his bass. There is no excuse for not keeping comms open, and the fact that he had visited BC on a few occasions tells me he could have got in touch if he had wanted to. Yep, im old fashioned as well. PS. I do hope there is nothing too serious with the guy, in not completely without feeling, but there is no excuse for his actions (or lack of them) IMO.
5.
Does thin = fast? Thin is about size, fast is about your technique.
Exactly. Some people find thin necks too cramped and this slows them down. Some people like jazz necks but with a larger front to back depth, some prefer fretboards with a more rounded radius like 7.5", whereas I find flatter 10" feel faster to me.
6. My Squier CV jazz neck is one of the best I've owned. I find the vintage style (as in smaller than normal) really helps. Same goes for the Lakland JO neck on my CVP. That has banjo frets on it so again, a nice fast neck and a nice low action, and also a Jazz neck. I'm not saying a jazz neck makes for a faster neck than, say a P, but as I feel more comfortable on a Jazz neck that's my preference.
7.
Hi, what is the body made of ?
You can get all the info of Fenders website :-)
8. Yep, i was at that gig, definitely my fav as well. Although we lived in inner London me and the GF had a free nights stay in the Hilton through her company. We got totally wasted on the free bar before the gig. Good times. I also saw a "secret" gig they did at the old Hammersmith Odeon. The stage was set up like an old western bar room and it was a very cozy feeling gig.
9.
Yeah, i think they did play Lola. amazing day out. i really liked Live before going as well so that was a treat. their throwing copper album is a goodun I was a mega fan of jovi in the slippery, faith, jersey days. Then they released These days which is a utter masterpiece and then went down hill from there IMO
Ah yes, Live. I remember really liking them as well, i think i went and got their album the next day (i did the same with The Dan Reed network after they supported BJ a few years earlier). As i said in my first post i thought BJ were quite lacking compared to the earlier gigs but maybe it was also the fact that Hyde Park was not a good place to see them for me. Like you i was a big fan during the early years, but i can take them or leave them now but i do enjoy the old songs still. Loved their version of Dont like Mondays with God Geldof.
10.
Jovi are awesome live. I saw them in hyde park back in around 2003/2004 and the band "live" supported. Really good. Jovi played over a 3 hr set which is incredible thinking of the vocal range he has to perform and his age. I saw them at coventry and Nickleback supported them which was pretty nice. they get loads of grief but are a decent stadium band as well. they even covered cowboys from hell!!!!!! Do it, go and see them, they wont fail to impress, and the crowd will be full to the brim of cracking birds desperate to get in jovi's pants. So get the old blond wig, 30 inch waist 501sm, and denim cut off waitcoat out and party!!!!
You do realise that the OP is not a man dont you ;-) I think we might have been at the same Hyde Park gig. Was that when they played Lola with Ray Davis? EDIT: I see you do, ignore the first bit :-)
11. Yeah, i saw them at MK as well. It wasn't a bad gig but i agree, they have had their day. Still a great band though. The first time i saw them was during the Capt. America period, when JBJ would fly over the audience in a very 80's over the top way lol. As i said ive only been to one Hyde park gig so maybe things have improved when it comes to seeing the stage, but it makes sense that if its on the flat its going to be challenging to see for some. They do of course have large screens but thats not quite the same.
12. I used to be a big fan, saw them a few times during the 90's/early 2000's but the last gig i saw them at was Hyde Park. This was my first time seeing a band there and really hated it. The park is of course flat, so although im just over 6ft my GF isnt, and she had a hard time trying to see the band on stage over other peoples shoulders. Everyone around us was singing along, but as she was below most of them all she could here was a lot of out of tune wailing. The band themselves were a bit of a let down. Too quiet, not really putting on a performance like they used to (just T-shirts and jeans etc) and promoting the latest album, which IIR was just some MOR tosh. A few weeks later i went and saw a tribute band, and they blew BJ off stage as far as im concerned. They played all the hits, the songs people actually wanted to hear, and played them very well. Did all the costume changes and dressing up etc as well. I am still a fan of Bon Jovi but think they have had their day now. The most pleasure i get is listening to Hugh McDonald bass lines, i love his playing, and i thought his tone on One wild night was amazing.
13. Nah, mine soon got bored of only 4 strings Then at this point we decided he was no good at "music", so he decided to play drums instead lol He has settled down now
14. Mine couldn't decide what style he wanted to play.
15.
On the contrary I think it make sense him being allowed to get his little jam/marmite/whatever covered little fingers on the frets that his dad should never have to use in real life
Fixed it for ya ;-)
16. Shame on you starting him at the wrong end of the neck ;-)
17. Google and Hotmail for my band. Only two of us have iPhones, in fact only two of us have a phone that has a colour screen.
18. Better Vintage than roadworn lol Well done Ian, and good moody photo to show you mean business.
19.
I wish they did an Android app for that.
Yeah, or at least a Bass version.
20. We had a thread about SL on here recently. its wasn't pretty I must say this is more what i would expect from SL, ive always had good service from them.
21. This looks great, ill definitely be getting one. I dont like those big multi FX boxes (or rack units) as they dont fit in my gig bag, so this seems ideal for my very modest needs. I quite like the idea of the MS-100BT as well.
22. I do look in gigs occasionally but for the past few years I've been gigging most sat nights, and as I work during the week i am too lazy to travel too far to see a gig during the week plus I don't really like pubs. It funny but I really want to get in to gig photography, but so far done bugger all about it. I am planing on seeing Clarky's band this year, and I'd love to see others but I will only go if I like the music anyway. Not having transport also means I have to make more effort, and so I don't bother. Shame on me lol.
23.
but the BBOT does the job as well as any other bridge.
When its not falling apart or ripping the side of your hand apart ;-)
24. Just to muddy the water a bit but it seems Tech 21 NYC have brought out a DI version of the VTBass. This could be quite an interesting box. I personally felt the VTBass MKI wasnt my thing but the newer versions have a bit more going for them, plus full DI output now. There is already a thread on here about it although i dont think its out over here yet.
