  1. Yeah, i was the same. Only had what i could afford, and never the big league stuff until they fell out of favour. I got the JP8 for £450 used, and then swapped it for the DX7. Both from a shop so that would include markups. I loved what i had at the time, SH-09/101, DX27/11, Casio CZ1000 etc, but these were all originals bands.when i started doing covers and we started getting lots of decent gigs i knew i had to step things up, So got the JP8, but felt it was really only good for those 80’s synth songs, so traded it for the DX7. Then i got a Korg M1ex. That pretty much got me through until i stopped playing and went to bass. Now im back on keys ive realised a lot of what i liked back then is not really working for me, although my Fantom has all the JP8/Juno stuff covered which i do love playing around with. Before i got the Fantom as my top keyboard i was using a controller and my ipad, and had various synths, inc Juno/OBX/M1/Hammond etc. i felt i finally had all the sounds id missed out on in the past, but i found using a controller and all those synths a bit hectic at gigs. Im now trying to convince myself to sell the MODX, get a larger controller and use MainStage for the more acoustic sounds. I also have a Roland cloud account and love playing around with the D-50.
  2. I gigged for about 3 years with my DX7, and i could tweak the sounds to how i wanted them, but i didnt have the skill to do it from scratch. This was early 90’s when the DX had started to fall from grace. Before i had it i had been using the cheaper DX’s for originals, and then a JP8 when i joined a covers band. I ended up swapping the JP8 for the DX7, which was used, because i started playing covers and felt the DX was more of an all round keyboard, and i was starting got need more piano type sounds. Then i got an M1, and that was light years ahead for covers IIR. I guess what I should have said was not silly noises, but useless ones (for me). I didnt need basses, bells, thin weedy strings/brass etc. Part of the reason i got it was as a controller, but also i guess i had fond memories of the DX7. I just didn’t find the DX usable for any of this. When i got the MODX a few weeks later, as i must admit the bug to play key’s had bitten me, i was knocked out how good/warm/full sounding FM-X was. All those DX7 sounds but on steroids. Even the FM-X versions of the CS80 type sounds were really good, plus all the built in FX etc. I just found never see me switching the DX on again. The CP on the other hand, has a vibe ive not been able to get no my MODX or Fantom. I also get inspired when i turn it on. It’s just that i don’t these days.
  3. I had a Reface DX, the first keyboard i brought in about 25 years. I got it during the first lockdown. That got me started on the road to the dark side, i soon got a MODX after that (2 weeks IIR). I’ll be honest, i found the DX to be pants. I owned a DX7 back in the day, and also a DX27. Maybe my memory was clouded, but when i got the Reface DX i was at first over the moon to get some of those sounds back, but quickly remembered why i moved the DX’s on. I wanted something to write and work out songs on, and the DX was just not the right one. Had I wanted silly noises………😎 A year or so ago i swapped it for a Reface CP. That was the best move i made. Although i never really use it, i love its sounds. Ive spent hours noodling on that. I don’t really use it much now that i have a 2 keyboard rig set up in the living room, but its not something id get rid of as its so convenient.
  4. As im still new to IEM’s id need to make sure i dont plan on changing them before i spend that sort of money. We arent going to be gigging too often, so it seems a bit of a luxury at this stage. I know MEE do them for around $150 but id still need to get my ears measured etc.
  5. Cheers. Yep, got some larger Comply tips ordered. Looking at the right one this morning and it’s ripped. Im not going to go the whole custom fit at the moment, but probably will next year. happy with the IEMs themselves though. A bit gutted we didn’t get to play 3 Lions last night 😎
  6. Had my first gig with IEM’s last night. I was worried about not hearing everything but the ambient mic worked really well. First set I was in heaven. Everything sounded good and that inspired me To play better. Really enjoyed playing. Second set was not so good. My right one kept coming loose, so I was getting way more drummer in my ear, and loss of low end in my ears. At one point I took them out and was shocked at how loud the band were (it was ok for this room though). I’m now 100% converted to IEM’s though. Just need to sort out the ear tips. I do have loads, I just didn't bother taking them. One issue I had all night, was one of my keyboards sounded distorted in my ears. Not terrible, but ‘hot’. All the levels were fine, I did a PFL on both, so I think it was the fact that I’m using a passive headphone box and had the phones out on the desk maxed out. I’ll go back to my P2 for the next gig.
  7. Why do you assume it will be a Man or Woman? 😂
  8. Having just started using something very similar I can say it’s been a revelation as far as feeling part of the music goes. Tonight im going to try a stereo mic, but I had no issues with the mono.
  9. My situation was different, as I was re purchasing items I had already owned, so noticed right away they were inferior. I’ve used the grey market many times, even for expensive items, but my mind now tells me if something is really cheap the be careful. Im sure the IEM’s will be fine, they are cheap items anyway. When dawn got hers I had a go with them but they felt too large and heavy for me flat ears. They didn’t actually fall out (probably would have done though). But felt like they would all the time. That’s why I ended up with what I have now.
  10. I’ve only used Ali express twice, for camera accessories. Both took ages to arrive and were both fakes. Maybe I was just unlucky.
  11. Thanks for the offer but i don’t really have a need to get it working now. I do remember one of those cables was a Roland cable, which i do still have, so maybe I’ll take that apart and we wire it. With that cable i remember i only got sound in the left ear when the P2 was set to stereo.
  12. It could well be the cheap cables i got off amazon. I tried two different ones. I tried plugging the TRS end in to the headphone out on my mixer at first, and then in to my keyboard’s headphones out both directly in to the P2, but it was only coming through in mono. I also had a G4M version at the time and that was doing the same thing. Sent the cable back and got another brand (probably just re branded). Same result. It has bugged me that it never worked.
  13. Haha, yeah. Like i said, the jack is woking fine for stereo, just couldn't get it from the XLR.
  14. Thats good info Russ. I brought a couple of cables supposedly stereo TSR to stereo wired XLR, but only got mono using the P2. Do you have confirmation that the XLR in is stereo?
  15. Only reason i use jack is because its stereo. To be fair my P2 seems very loose, even by jack standards. Hoping with the passive version i can get to the jack inside and if it is loose, bend it in a bit.
  16. Ive had the same thing happen with my P2, and did the same as you. I find the jack connection to be quite loose so got a G4M passive version, which only has a jack input. This feels a bit tighter, although I’ll still wrap the cable. It’s also a bit smaller and with no battery one less thing to worry about. I was looking through my drawers last night and found my old Roland ECM907 stereo mic. I’ll give that a try on Friday and see if that makes a difference. .
  17. Well to be clear, Dawns first set lasted 3 rehearsals without being dropped. 😬 Just one of those thing i guess, the second pair is working well and i know 3 other people that use them on a regular basis. Only issue i can see (and i may be wrong), is the the working channels seem quite limited if whole band are using them. Could be wrong though, and im basing that on seeing the guitar versions clash a couple of times in my old band.
  18. EXACTLY what happened to my singer’s first one. We thought it had stopped working completely but i noticed if i held both parts in one hand it would work. Andertons swapped it over and the second one has been fine ever since. 3 gigs in and around 8 rehearsals.
  19. Hmm. Thanks. I’ll look in to that. Good idea. Sounds a bit more involved than i hoped, but yes, ideally id use the P2 as the final bit in the chain before the IEM’s. Ive just ordered the G4M subzero passive version of the P2. This takes TRS jack only, but thats what im using with my P2. Ive found the cable can quite easily be pulled out with the P2, and as im using the phones out from the desk i don’t think i need an active amp.
  20. Well that’s not extortionate but more than I was hoping for. I’m only asking as it seems a bit more convenient, it’s not a must have and I have a feeling it will be money wasted seeing as I’m already up and running with a wired system, which needs no power and won’t have any drop out or latency issues. I don't actually need a wireless system, but it would be nice. Im willing to see what’s out there though, I have seen the Sub Zero one for £180 but I’ve seen issue with their low cost stuff.
  21. Im sutre its been covered already, but is there a cheap(ish) way of getting stereo IEM’s without a cable, and without buying yet another mixer etc. Obviously ive got the IEM part, and happy to use my P2, but id like to lose the wire if possible/feasible.
  22. I’ve been using Comply memory foam tips for a few years. On my Airpod pros, as well well as my IEM’s. They need a bit of a squeeze before putting them in but they feel rock solid and block out so much more noise that silicon ones (for me at least). They make different types for different situations so they are quite versatile. I know some use the much cheaper Inairs, which are very similar. I’ve got two boxes of them but don’t feel they offer the same level of comfort as the Comply’s I’m using.
