1. Have a word with Andy at Wizard, see what he thinks. He made me up a set of 74's as i felt the 84's were too dark sounding but didnt want the 64's as i was after something with a bit more character.. Explain to him what you're after and he will be able to advice. I got rid of my Thumper for a Fender Original but part of that was due to the slight size difference in the Thumper, it caused me to have to file out any pick guard i put on my P bass. Tone wise i was happy with either although the Fender sounded a bit more "woody"
2. I love the bit where you scroll down and see " What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?" and the top pair is a set of £9.99 Creative In-ear phones lol.
3. Ive had this for about a year or so and use it most weekends, but its still on its first battery so its not actually had much "on" time i guess. Its either been in a padded case or on top of my amp so its in great condition, looks almost new and i can find no scratches on it at all (white specks are the flash bouncing off the dust in the pics) I've never had any problems with it, no noisy pots etc. Reason for selling is ive just got a Paradriver so this is no longer needed. Looking for £90 inc delivery to mainland UK, or £85 for local central London pick-up. Not looking for anything other than money im afraid, and im in no rush to sell it so the price is firm, for now. Cheers.
4.
imo high mass bridges are a marketing ploy.. just like string through bodies etc.
LOL
5.
Got hold of Puttin' It Together so its only the Ultimate EJ cd/lp to bag.....
Ive got it. PM if you want it and i can drop box it.
6. Good for you. They arent always the cheapest but ive never had better customer service from a music store.
7. Nice one. Its always quicker to speak to them in person if you have issues. With so many people singing their praises i'd give them another chance if the occasion arises, but understand if you dont want to.
8. I'd say that seeing as Fender sell P basses with HM bridges on them they cant possibly not sound like a Fender P bass ;-) While a P bass will always sound like a P bass no matter what bridge is on it there are a lot of things that will make more of a difference to the tone IMO. For me a HM bridge looks classier and is more comfortable to rest the side of my hand on. Ive had the Vintage bridges and have always found them to need regular adjusting, not so the HM bridges.
9. Why not just call them? Ive sent quite a few thing back and never had any issue other than they take a while to reply to emails so i just pick the phone up.
10.
Its on the way up.
Giggady
11. Dont worry, the doors locked and they aint getting in (or out lol)
12.
You're right of course, and I'll state it again: If there are nice jubblies on show, we won't be looking at the neck!
Looking? Blimey, ill be running various scenarios through my head before the first chorus lol And yes, thats sooooo un PC, sorry ladies.
13. Yep, i do look at the neck quite a bit, especially if im going up and down the neck. sometimes it just for confirmation that ive hit the right note, especially if im up the dusty end of the neck. Ive also got a Planet waves mini headstock tuner and i sometimes turn that on and play word games with it if im bored lol.
14. I also too the bridge off mine and replaced it with a Fender Vintage, but then replaced that with a Gotoh 201. The reason i changed the bridge in the first place was to get a slightly narrower string spacing. I was happy with the Fender but then when i put the Lakland neck on i needed to raise the bridge a bit so got the Gotoh. I now have one on both my CV's. Other than the colour still bugging me i cant see any reason to get another P.
15.
Nice try.
its starting to work on me
16. Another thumbs up for the CV range. Ive got rid of all my basses other than my two CV's and have no real GAS at all for anything else (although i am tempted to get a SBMM SUB at some point). Im now of the opinion that you really dont need to spend a fortune to get a playable bass these days. Ive' been gigging my CV P (or whats left of it, it does have a Lakland neck on it) for nearly two years now and its never let me down, and sounds just like a P bas should.
17. Oh dear, this has come at just the wrong time. Looks like I'll get one, just need to decide which one, and how many strings.
18.
Tried all of that ... picked Marcus (that's what I call my bass which was Dave's old one) up last night from having a set up done. Guy in the shop said the person who did it played and said that he was "f*****g amazing". Plays like a dream. Still want MORE! Well done for not following your own advice! Hope your lens does all you hope for Dave!
The lens actually serves a real purpose so it wasn't really GAS, more stupidity lol. Glad Marcus is still with you, sounds like he wont be sleeping alone for much longer :-) My gear GAS has almost completely gone. Ive had the same bass for almost two years now, a lowly Squier (whats left of it), when i do get a bit of bass GAS i just start using my other Squier for a while. Much cheaper than buying another bass although you have to work up to this stage. Sounds like you have a long way to go and a lot of money to spend first ;-)
19.
Dave - I am struggling and losing ground by the minute. My determination is really working against me here .
Haha, i know the feeling. i woke up Sat morning worrying about paying some bills, by late afternoon i had brought a new camera lens lol. Get some new strings, something different and put them on the HW-one. That will give you a newish tone and may help with the GAS, and save you some money.
20.
I have absolutely no justification other than "I want that" .... It's just lust. Pure and simple. A strong driver all the same.
Told ya it would happen if you hung around long enough ;-) Dont resist it, you cant fight the inevitable lol..
21. Reading a lot of MB owner posts i get the impression that a majority of us really only need the filters. Ive always run my heads flat and tweaked the filters to suit. As someone said earlier, the EQ is there more to tidy things up rather than to drastically change the tone. I do sort of find the MB tone a bit bland, lacking a bit of life, but its garbage in, garbage out IMO. Having tried to get way from MB last year i found that MB gave a truer impression of how my basses sound when DI'd in to my PC at home. Im not sure thats the best test but it did show that the heads aren't really adding much to the basic tone.
22. There have been many, many posts (mainly on TB) over the years where people haven't figured out the two filters are off when turned all the way to the left. They sit down in the shop, put everything at 12 o'clock thinking that flat and wonder why it sounds strange.
23. We had two this weekend. Both very enjoyable. Sat was at a very posh house just outside Cambridge. We were in a Marquee in the garden and access was good, food was good, audience were great (once they got going) but band were crap. I realyl enjoyed it, my tone was fantastic (IMO fo course) but due to the fact that we had no walls the mix was very dead. This seemed to put the other off as they could now hear what they were playing clearly. A few songs fell apart, badly, butr on the whole it was a great night. We even got another booking out of it, and £50 tip. Last nights gig was in Pembroke lodge in Richmond Park. We have played it a few times before so knew the score with the sound meter. We could hear the guests talking over some of the slower songs. I didnt enjoy it too much, you cant with bloody flashing red lights in front of you and a drummer who thinks as long as he doesnt trip it his volume is ok. Didn't really care that he was drowning us out at some points because we had set everything low. As usual the food was good (Gordon Ramsay was a guest although we didnt see him after the meal was finished). The audience were amazing though. So much gusset and cleavage on show that i almost forgot to keep an eye on the sound meter. At one point the wedding party took over the playing area to get some photos done. The photographer did ask and we didnt have a problem with it (its their time and money) but at no point during the evening did the bride or groom thank us, or even talk to us. They seemed a nice couple though, and were up dancing all night. Im really loving my Squier CVP now. Putting the Dr Black Beauties on it hasreally transformed it. It has more life in it now and is a joy to play. A few shots i took of them, not us. Yes, the bridesmaid was scary looking but actually a very nice lady. 24. I totally understand you not likeing them, each to his/her own but i still agree with the others that say the MB gear tend to amplify the tone of the bass without too much colouration. I guess some pieces of gear work better with other pieces and its that combination that will appeal to the individual.
25. Could be that the MB "cognoscenti" have enough experience with MB gear to give opinions, based on personal usage and not just preference or reading about it on web forums. Using MB gear isn't for everyone (i'd never dream of using their cabs) but for those that have, and used other gear as well, i think their opinion is valid, especially when someone is asking for help. MB heads are known for being pretty flat, or neutral sounding, certainly not a big tone changer like some heads, and ive found that while my MB heads haven't produced the best tones ive ever had, they do tend to produce the tone of my basses more faithfully, given the right cab.
