Thanks NJE, ill look in to those. i have heard of them before but each time ive looked at the pics on line ive not been able to figure out how low it sits. I had forgotten about this thread so apologies for not getting any pics up yet. ill do it this weekend. For what it worth i checked my bag and although i said the strap runs all the way to to the top it doesn't, it stops about where the headstock starts. Dave, im with you on the bouncing back bit, thats why ive always used this case not matter how much the bass is worth (and as ive said, ive had absolutely no issues with basses getting damaged).

Is this from the Classic Albums TV series or something else? Great clip though, very interesting.

The CV's are better IMO and there are plenty of owners/threads about these basses on here. Both have a good rep.

When i tried to break away from MarkBass i got a GK 1001-RBII. I hated it. I felt compared to the SA450 it sounded thin, lacked the punch i was used to and seemed to need pushing to get the volume i was used to (and the GK is rated slightly higher). This obviously has nothing to do with class D amps as neither have them, its just down to different tones for whatever reason. If you like the GK tone then the cleaner, more polite GB tone is the issue, not the power stage IMO.

I think there is a free version too. [/quote] Thanks for the heads up. I just had a look at Transcribe, it looks pretty good and easier to use than opening up Audition. I also find Guitar Pro a great way of leaning songs, assuming i can get decent versions of them to work from. Ive used many apps over the years but always seem to come back to using big programs to do the smallest of jobs. I think i just prefer not to have duplicate programs on my PC so if the big one does the job i tend to use that, even if its more cumbersome. Stupid i know. I must admit when i learn a song i learn the notes, not the chords. This might be the wrong way of doing things but ive always done it and it works for me. If someone was to ask me the chords of most of the songs we play i doubt i could tell them. I know the notes im playing, and im guessing i could work out the chords from those.

I tend to do it the hard way and make new versions of the songs in Audition as i tend to use iTunes to play most of my music (its all kept in iTunes match) A few years ago i was in two very similar bands doing very similar sets, but it quite different keys. I found it easier to get a 5 string and just transpose the fingering. Not ideal and a bit extreme but it worked for me, and gave me an excuse to buy a 5 string.

I had one a few years ago. It was a very nice bass, sounded just like a P bass (naturally) should and the B string sounded fine IMO. I did find the neck a bit slower than my Lakland's, that's just personal taste though. I would love another although id be more tempted to look at the 5 sting Lakland P first.

Tell the guitarist that adding bass creates distortion, whack him over the head with your bass until lumps appear and point out how distorted his head now looks.

Good news to see iCastle is on board (as well as the others). He seems to be one of the most level-headed people ive ever conversed with.

Cheers guys. BRX. like i said, ive been travelling with a bag like this for 7 years, it works fine, trust me. Having the bag on one shoulder results in the bass hanging down the side of the body, not the back. I normally have a rucksack on the same shoulder as well. It just makes life easier for using the tube/trains as it means i always have two free hands. Chairc, good idea. ill try and sort it out tonight. Basically the strap is attached behind the headstock and runs all the way to the bottom of the bag. Now i know in theory this might not be ideal for transporting a bass in the upright position but after having about 8-9 basses in this bag over the years i know it works fine. For what its worth the bag came with my HW-1 bass but Fender have changed the free gig bags.

Ive been using an old, and very un padded, Levys gig bag for the past 6-7 years but i think i need a new one. I know there are many very good bags around but it has to have a full length shoulder strap, so when its on one shoulder the top sits around head height. I definitely do not want to wear it like a rucksack nor have it sticking out above my head by a few feet etc. I used to have a angular EBMM bag that had a strap that covered the whole of the back, that was ideal although because of its shape i felt it was a bit too bulky. Money is a consideration but im willing to pay for something nice. For what its worth the Levys bag has served me very well throughout my 7 year GAS period, all my basses have travelled up and down the country in it (one at a time, obviously and while i know a lot of you need to have fully padded bag's its something that ive never really needed so a lot of padding isnt a priority. In fact the slimmer the better. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers

Ok, point taken. The early one does look like it was mad in a kids wood work class, next to that the current headstock doesn't look too bad after all. I do prefer the third one though.

Yep. agree with Fran as far as the feel goes. Ive just put some on my P and i love how smooth they are, although im coming from Dr Black Beauties and they are pretty rough. As for tone, i's say they are pretty close to Elixirs, not sure i like that but im going to stick with them. They certainly seem to have a lot of depth to them, good for the more modern songs we play.

Could well be the case but the original chrome control plate on my CV Jazz has tarnished quite a bit, not so the Gotoh bridge or tuners on it so i would say it may be a coincidence.

I'd love a G&L but i just cant get past that fugly headstock. Great tone though so maybe one day......

I had to replace mine a couple of years ago. I got a Celstion BL-15 250watt 8 ohm speaker. It cost about £50 IIR. As Jack said, the original speaker is 8 ohms not 4, and as casapete said there really wont be much (if any) difference in volume, but you will limit your options for adding another cab.

I looked at that seller but went with Soundslive. They are only a few pence dearer, and although its free delivery mine have already been despatched :-) EDIT: Actually Soundslive are a few pence cheaper now.
