1. Have a good time those who are going, don't get burnt.
2. Thank god for that :-)
3. Again, No, not in my experience but thats just on a P bass. At the last gig i had both my Snark and PW tuner on all through the gig (i was bored) and i found the PW tuner to be a bit quicker to show the pitch but that might be down to the different display systems used. Both were spot on though and that's with the band playing.
4. Thanks BJ. I feel a bit like im letting the side down, especially after all your hard work, but yes, when work calls you have to go running (or limping in Fran's case;-) I was supposed to be in on Sunday but the guy doing Sat has suddenly become "ill" over the last two days
5. I wonder if she is still there lol. Last year there was a couple of rather drunk city types having, what can only be described as bad sex on that sofa. At least, they were trying their best to. Right i have some bad, and rather embarrassing news. Ive been "asked" to work tomorrow morning in a rather forceful way, so it looks like i too will have to pull out as by the time im finished i doubt i'll much time to eat, wash and get reddy before leaving for the gig. If i can pop over i will but it will depend on what time i finish here. I feel really bad about doing this so close but there isnt a lot i can do to get out of it. If anything changes i will of course be there but if i dont see you all tomorrow have a good one.
6.
Ooops! They let me out at night again with my camera... I have just been there for a gander
Blimey Fran, your living room is a mess. At least get the hoover out :-)
7.
We haven't heard from Brummie, BigJim or thunderbird13 for a while. Hope they are still in or it might just end up with 4 or 5 of us. (4 or 5 quality people I hasten to add!)
2 girls, three boys, hey, we could form a band lol.
Good point, Dave. I just realized they have a 'James Bond' theme for my gig so I may well be sweating buckets in a tux. What's the betting they don't throw in free Martini's though!?
Blimey, good luck with that. The thought of wearing a loose suit in this weather is enough to make me sweat, let alone a tight collar. I doubt there will be any Martini's for you but at least the bear is cheap eh? EDIT:Just realised you meant this weeks gig. Good luck with that. Hopefully its not in a Marquee.
8. This is the first time in 7 years (other than Holiday camps) where we have shared the billing with someone who isn't a DJ or table magician so im sort of looking forward to see how the night goes. I guess i'd better break out the SPF100 for Sat, seems like its going to be a scorcher this weekend.
9. Spot on Steve, small world eh? As you know the back stage area is nice if there's only one band, but with three on (and one all women) its going to force us to sit out front so no chance of a kip. Nice club though, shame its not busier when we are there. We always seem to get told "oh, it was heaving here last night", Thats probably your lot lol. Hope your gig goes well. Hopefully we will meet at some point soon.
10.
Dave - if those two tributes bands are decent musicians, it shouldn't be a bad night (although having to on stage past midnight definitely sucks for you guys).
I dont know much about the Diva's but im pretty sure both acts are just singing to backing tracks. Considering this is a social club gig im really not looking forward to it, especially the very early sound check. Our first set is at 8.05 for 1 hour then not back on until 12.35. Best load up the iPad with some Inbetweeners i suppose. I'd much rather be out in the sun with you lot late afternoon
11. Thanks BJ. The club is a strange one. We've been playing it for a few years and its always been less than half full, if that, but a couple of years ago they spent £30,000 on a field array PA and made the hall bigger. Since then its been a good place to play as we dont have to take a PA but it means we play to even more empty seats. There wont be any pictures as this is a ticket only event so we wont have any friends there. There is a George Michael tribute and Supreme Divas of Motown are doing a set so lots to see while we sit around for almost 4 hours :-(
12. TIM's gone as well
13. Im gigging at a social club over in Hayes, Slough, with Blowup. Thats the only band im with now ;-(
14.
Well I'm glad that you parted with your basses Dave cos I've got one of them
Haha, yeah, i do my bit to help. Still loving it or have you brought another 3 since then
15. Im really surprised im GAS free as far as bass related gear goes, have been with the same Squier's for 3 years now. There is always something i want but im very happy to have settled down with what i have now. My Secret to this is to spend more than i have in the past lol. Its left me with so little that there is no point to GAS now lol. In fact i wish i had settled on these a long before i spent a lot more money on basses that really didnt offer me much else.
16. Should add that as im gigging that evening, and our last set isn't until 12.35 ill also be on the soft stuff. Cant have me falling asleep before the last set (although during is fine).
17. ...and any mention of fanned frets gets you chucked over the wall lol.
18. If anyone is coming from Waterloo you can access the rear entrance (giggady of the garden directly from Waterloo bridge. This would save going around the front. I'll get a pic up tonight showing which entrance to take off the bridge. There is a lift at the back of the garden if anyone is bringing a BBQ or sofa lol.
19. Good work BJ. I must admit ive never asked about the food and drink thing but ive seen a lot of people taking picnics etc up there. I think its probably best not to sit on the cafe's chairs if you aren't buying but they seem ok with sitting elsewhere with your own food. Im good for anywhere up there, so ill go with the flow.
20.
I might join you too.
It would be good to see you there, just dont bring the car ;-) A bit OT but ive just been looking at all the road closures etc for Sunday 3rd, what a nightmare, glad im not going anywhere that day.
21. I think Sat mornings are the best time to go if you just want to relax or have a slow walk. It seems to be less tourists and more people going about their business if that makes scene. By late morning it will be heaving if the sun is out.
22.
The Met Office is forecasting a max temp of 22 degrees and a sunny, windy day. We should be all right.
So snow and sub zero temps then ;-) There has been quite a bit of work done on the Southbank over the past week. Watch this space now has its turf put down, along with the huge couch and arm chair, there is also a new bar called The Propstore (IIR) that opens tomorrow, as well as what looks liek a new bar up above Watch this space, quite a few new sculptures up by the QE hall and a few more bits or "art" scattered around. It was very busy yesterday after work, Sat will be even worse so i think meeting at the roof garden will be a good idea as its out of the way.
23. By that i mean if i click on the "You can unsubscribe at any time here" link in email alerts on my iPhone or iPad i get a thread not found error. I can do it on my PC and of course can use the unfollow button at the top of the threads. Not the end of the world but thought i would mention it.
24.
Oh I see Dave, I thought you meant you couldn't get there till late. But you were talking about the recce with bluejay. I'll shut up now as I'm just confusing the issue!
Haha, yeah, i was talking about during the week.
25.
I'm happy to hang on until later as long as some others are up for it. Who have we got coming now? Looking back at this thread it seems we are expecting: Brummie ras52 BigJim Billyapple Plus us 2 girls and hopefully Dave in the early evening. Also there is a rumour that discreet might put in an appearance! Doesn't seem a huge amount so far... any other takers out there??
Ill be there at the start but have a sound check at 3pm over in Hayes so will need to head off around 2 unfortunately.
