1. The definitely do a good job. Im sure someone posted a video of them building and ageing one of their basses. They dont actually kick them around the workshop apparently.
2. Good thinking. You could also offer to pass it around a few of the more "punk" members on BC for few weeks each, and let them do it for you. At least the battle scares would have a bit more meaning to them and it would become a classic at no extra cost
3.
. does seem a bit strange to pay extra to damage a perfectly good guitar. What are others thoughts on this?
This makes sense to me. Why anyone would want a damaged looking guitar, and pay more for it is beyond me. People who have owned a bass for years can wear the marks and dents etc with pride. Each one could tell a story etc, but to pay for someone else to do this to a brand new bass is beyond me. As you can see, im not one of the "roadworn" or "relic" gang, not that these basses have ever been road worn, and brand new they cant be relics. No offence, just giving my opinion.
4. I too had great service from Joe. When i had to re wire and change drivers in my brand new UL212 he sent me all the relevant bits of wire, twice, as the first lot had the wrong connectors on the ends of them. Great service from a company that made a high end cab in the dark, without tools by the look of it.
5. Yeah, I realised it was an admition of guilt as I pressed post. What I meant was I have "heard about" ;-)
6. Seen better on the X factor first round shows. Terrible performance and they should really be ashamed of themselves.
7.
Yeah thats a very good point Dave. Maybe after my gigs in March you can borrow it to try out.
Thats kind of you Michael but ive pretty much decided its the 1212L that needs to go rather than my F1
8. Sorry, what i meant was adjustable low end, as in EQ. The LMI/III are pretty sparse in that respect, although it seems most people dont use the EQ much anyway.
9. Good news then. I actually went from a ABM to a MB SA450 as i felt the ABM was quieter than the MAG i had come from, and i loved the low low end of the ABM and found the SA450 could get close to that, but the LMII couldnt, due to the fixed freq's.
10. Thanks. That tort PG was a very cheap ebay one and looked horrible, even before i put it on. The red one is transparent wine i believe. This is the first gen version and i put the BAII on it (so Fender nicked my idea ;-) The coating started to come off very quickly on this bass, probably within a few months. Its only the actual paint part, the wood still has a coating on it. I ended up swapping it with Wayne for his SUB. It was probably the best Jazz bass i've had.
11.
Fixed my post for clarity
well i was going to add "unlike Fenders" to my post but this isnt the right place for that.......yet
12.
So the conclusion is Laklands are great if you don't mind the possibility of the strings or pickups not lining up
I should add that ive had 5 Laklands, and played around 10 altogether and all were spot on.
13.
My mistake! I just remembered it was Lakland pickup alignment here!
And who, i wonder started that thread
14.
Dave, you will love the Reidmar. I think its right up your street. Get your arse to mine any time you like and you are welcome to have a play through it, a cup of tea and maybe a slice of cake
Cheers Michael but i feel ill need to use it in a live situation to get a feel for it, especially with my cab being quite coloured. Gareth. That is crazy although i guess they have been around for quite a while.
15. Lets hope so. Funny enough i was thinking of putting my F1 up for a Streamliner trade but came here to see what all the fuss was about (thanks Michael ;-) and now not so sure.
16. Another vote for a Tech21 pedal in front of the LMIII. In my case i'd say a BDDI as that worked for me but i know the VT Bass offers more in the way of tone changing options. I would say a MB F500 would do punchy attack, very flexible mids control but not the OD/distortion, then again i dont really have experience with much else. The GB Streamliner could do the punch and warm OD but i found the mid control to be pretty basic. Great tone though and there was a thickness to every note that ive not heard from a MB head.
17.
Same here, but a 4 banger. Been wanting an all white DJ4 for a while... Wonder if they've fixed the QC issues (string to p'up alignment) that seemed a problem with the older ones?
I had one delivered from Thomanns and never even opened it. Just sent it straight back as i had already brought a Duck Dunn off them, changed my mind, ordered the DJ and then decided to keep the DD. I really wish i had played it as it would have put me off the DJ5. @Maverick. yes, it took a while to sell but i know its been sold on at least once more. It was made active but i think its now been put back to stock, as a Jazz.
18. Out of all the amps i've read about over the past few years it seems to me the Streamliner had the most issues. I know of at least 4 that were faulty. I expect this was just teething troubles but i can name any other brand off the top of my head......oh wait, then there was Ashdown ;-)
19. I believe the Skylines are made in the Cort Factory, same as many other good mid range basses, and then have the hardware and electrics added in Chicago.
20.
. On the basis of the youtube clips I wouldn't pay to go see X-UFO I'm afraid.
I have seen and heard a lot better, but not by an tribute type of band. Then again, this band dont sound great either ;-)
21.
Agree with the post where packing up too early is a little unseemly- especially on a wedding gig. Don't do it people this will piss loads of paying punters off.
Agree with this. We always walk off stage/playing area and giv eit 5mins or so before coming back and breaking the gear down. I've always thought it looks a bit rude doing it the moment the last note stops, certainly at functions etc. As for pubs, well i guess thats another world. I still cant get over the amount of people who dont seem to help out with the rest of the gear, unless you're depping of course.
22. I used to be a huge UFO/MSG fan back in the day. I still love listening to the old albums but i must admit to not following the various bands/member's since the late 90's. I do have a live at the BBC (IIR)recording and there are so many mistakes (for an establish pro band) that i sort of went off them live. i didnt realise all this was going on so thanks for posting the video clip, and to Kev for the heads up about the live dates.
23. Bugger. I started reading this thread just to see what people thought of this head, and you can guess the rest
24. Its a shame i never really got on with mine when i had it, i do now regret selling it. Not keen on the Skyline colours though, i still prefer the Black sparkle
25. Although i dont have them any more ive had 3 over the past 7 years. An original HW-1 Jazz, a HW-one P and a HW-one Jazz. Loved them all. The first. This was the bass that replaced my Squier JV P. I went out looking for a red bass and out of all the red basses in the Bass Centre this one played and sounded the best. The HW-one P. Horrible pick guard. I only put it on to see what it would look like. I hated it. I sold it on here and last tiem i looked it was all black, even the hardware. This was the bass i settled on when i couldn't get a decently made MIA back in 2010. I sold this on as although it was a better bass i actually preferred my CV Jazz neck.
