Can anyone recommend me some headphones? :)
dave_bass5 replied to Ben Jamin's topic in Accessories and Misc
Cheers for the reply, sounds like they will be a worthwhile upgrade for me. Sold to the man who really can't afford them at this time of the year lol. -

So for normal listening such as iPod etc the 70 ohms version should be ok shouldnt it? One other question, are these good for general music listening? I ask as I would like to use them both for recording and playing, and also using with my iPod touch or phone on the tube. I don't suppose you or anyone knows how these compare to the Sen HD215? These are what I have now but I find the noise isolation isn't great. -
. I think it's actually worse having to play a song you know so well in a different key rather than learning a new one from scratch.
Totally agree, and this is what prompted me to buy a 5 string when i started depping with a band who did more or less the same songs as my band but in different keys. I just couldnt get my head around re learning them in a new key.

I have found i use less filter now i have the F1, but a touch of VPF helps tame the mid hump in my 1212L. I think thats probably why i like the BDDI as it also helps tame the mids.

No problem, glad to help (and talk about MB heads) I do think part of my MB love is that they work well with my Schroeder cab (s), in fact most cabs by the sound of it, not so a few other heads ive tried through them.
-
Ive never played a MB head that, to me, sounded like something else if that makes sense. I love the basic tone they produce and especially the filters. I find the EQ is a bit subtle but thats not a problems as i dont want to really tone shape my sound, just tweak it for different venues/stages. I find i tweak less with the F1 than i did with the other heads, especially on hollow wooden stages. My cab is pretty coloured so maybe i dont hear the heads at thier best but they seem to work for me, no matter what bass i use. I did try and break free of the MB tone this year but as you can see, i came back pretty quick. Just PM me if you ever want to give it a try out, i dont mind if you want to take it for a gig, as long as im not using it thats fine.

Budget basses, anyone else fallen in love with their's?
dave_bass5 replied to a topic in Bass Guitars
I wouldnt say ive fallen in love with my Squier's, but i have become more settled with these two basses than i have been over the past 5 years, enough to sell the others and keep the Squier's. Having no money helped of course. -

The one pair of HD25 i tried felt really nice. Ive read that some people dont like wearing them for too long but i couldn't feel any discomfort in the 20mins or so i had them on. For me the isolation was the selling point, i could practice in the living room while eastenders was on the TV, and this was the recent Bianca episode so a good test ;-) The pair i tried had the velvet ear pads which i believe come with the higher priced set and felt very nice on my ears. -
No problem. While i never intended to get a F1 its working out fine. I do miss having the extra EQ the SA450 has, so i do want a F500 at some point but as i mostly run the MB heads flat i dont really see me needing to upgrade any time soon. One thing i have noticed is that since getting the F1 ive stopped using my BDDI all the time. Before i was using it to add a little "something" to the tone, not dirt or distortion as such, just a slight gain and low end boost, now i find the F1 has that and i hardly use the BDDI. If you want to come over and try it at some point let me know.
Hey Dave, how does the F1 head sound, compared to a regular LittleMark? I'm more than happy with my Promethean for now, but when I get out playing again, I'll need to go for a bigger rig and miss the sound of my LittleMark 250. Would be interested to hear your thoughts. Cheers, Eude
Although i never got to do a direct comparison between my old LMII and my F1 i find the F1 to be a bit punchier than the Class A/B heads. Its not quite as thick, and i guess not as warm sounding but seems to be a bit louder and due to the cleaner lower end seems to sound more defined and articulate to my ears. In a band setting i dont really hear any difference other than a slightly quicker attack and slightly less muddy low end. To me it still sounds like a MB head. Ken Jung has a direct comparison between the LMII and F1 here I
I'd go with some Sennheiser HD25 IIs for this, fantastic sounding cans and fairly accurate production. Definitely wouldn't advise beats for this situation or for anything other than listening to only hip hop / simple beat based music.
Ive heard a lot of good things about these headphones, i've been looking in to getting a set myself but the amount of models available in the HD25 range seems quite confusing. -
you have an extra fret as well.
A P bass only needs 5 frets
Cool. Stuff. Let me know when your next gig is so I can kidnapp you and your amp head
:-) You're welcome to borrow it if you wanted to try it out.

I was never interested in the red until I saw it in the flesh. It's darker than most of the pics I saw online. I grew to like it almost instantly. The Epi went just after this gig as it really wasnt working out volume wise. It was replaced with the 1212L that doesnt sound quite as nice but does the job without complaining.

Oooo, i didn't know we had a MB thread. Here's my F1, brought off Clarky during the summer. It was supposed to replace my GB Streamliner (and has) as a straight swap but for a while i couldn't decide what to keep so ended up buying it. This is my old SA450, my first and probably best MB head. And this was me just showing off at a gig lol. No point having a nice backup if it doesn't get used so i used one head per set. I also wanted to hear just how close the two heads sounded.
The Union rep even got involved. What the hell is wrong with people nowadays?
You answered your own question there.
I also love it for its neck, I don't get on with narrow ones and the Precision's just works for me.
I forgot to mention i dont get on with P necks so any P bass i have either comes with or gets a Jazz neck. I can play them ok but i prefer the thinner necks.
-
i agree with Lozz, but for me its mainly because im playing covers and most of those were recorded with a P bass, so although the P bass isnt always my perfect tone, it gets the job done and in the most authentic way i can manage. For what its worth i dont want to cut through the mix, i want to sit in it and the P does that well.
Totty city... never seen so many short SHORT skirts, high heels and the legs to go with it... I have to go and lie down.
. You know the rules John, pics or it didn't happen :-)

I have only used my 1212L so i cant personally recommend anything, but the Berg AE212 seems very well liked over on TB. Not cheap though. The Streamliner threads are now up to part 8 and there is a wealth of info in them.
I use a Schroeder 2 x 12 and these sometimes come up pretty cheap - around £400. Mega mega loud and weight next to nothing. Tiny for a 2 x 12 too. Rated at 800w so any amp would do.
As i posted above. not in my experience, at least not with the Streamliner (this is also shared by ken Jung who really knows his stuff). Great cab but the OP can do much better with this head.
-
There is a huge Streamliner thread over on TalkBass, lots so cab discussion in there as well. Having owned a Streamliner 600 i wasnt too impressed with it when paired with my Schroeder 1212L, there was just something that didnt gel.

Funny enough ive just brought a set of medium light gauge strings for the first time in years. Ive nearly always used 45-105 but im looking forward to a slightly light set.

I'll echo the above about using the GK app over Amplitube, and i too perfer GarageBand over it as well. I find i get a better signal to noise ratio and a smaller latency. Im on my second iRig adaptor. The first one i had lasted 30mins before i sent it back. I was shock at how bad it sounded. I dont think there was anything wrong with it as the second one (brought about 6 months later) seemed OT sound the same, but after a bit of work i settled with it.

Its definitely a good colour combo. I love Lakland necks, although i did prefer my DJ5 neck to the 55-01 (and my current JO4 that i have on my Squier), more so for the matching headstock and the blocks but all feel fantastic. I too have always avoided maple but now i have a thing for them, i think they looks great on the right colour body. Good luck with the 55-02, that too sound fantastic. I almost got a 44-02 last year in natural/maple. Great looking bass.
