No, this was something that never got out of basic rehearsals apparently. I wasnt involved so cant really confirm what happened but i think they quit when they realised it wasn't going anywhere. Could be that this wasn't the final project Brian did.
Just because you mentioned it I played an American Special and it was very nice. I beleive this is what has taken over from the Highway One.
It does look like that but there are some difference between the two lines, its a shame the HW-one is no more.
-
I love the HW-1/Ones. I've had a HW1 Jazz and a HW-one Jazz and P. All very nice instruments.

I remember my cousin playing me a live Sweet album back in the 70's and i was knocked out by how heavy they sounded back then. Great band. The singer (who was also playing bass) and guitarist in my current band were doing something with Brian Connolly just before he died. By all accounts he never really looked alive.

I have to ask, why get rid of one bass that seems to work fine, only to spend more money on getting another? I would have thought the Black MF would have been perfect.
-
As a flat's owner (TI's and Chromes) i know these can go on any bass, but i personally dont find them suited to the Jazz bass as much as the P. Its all personal preference. Mine goes back and forth between flats and rounds almost monthly.

Household name bassist...in the jungle?!
Not really a bassist then...
What makes you say that then? -
Not sure if its been mentioned yet but the coating tends to come off pretty quick lol. I had a set of Neons last year and they seemed a bit better but i didnt keep them too long as i dont like the feel of these strings. I do have a set of Black Beauties on my Jazz at the moment but i got them cheap off here to try. Nice tone but i dont like the rough feel.
to go further I'd say MB doesn't do tube... they do natural and warm very well
And i would agree, especially with the A/B class heads.
I think that was the goal for the Markbass cabs, hence why some people aren't keen on try outs. They tend to sound good in the mix but a little odd on their own.
A bit like a P bass then :-)
+1 we must be twins as thats how i set mine up If the LMII is not a future classic i'll eat my hat. I remember (about 150 gigs ago) when i first tried the LMII and how it completely blew me away. Still does. The only thing that could change would be the D.I. by putting a pre-EQ which they addresses with the LMIII For tubiness has anyone mentioned getting a pedal of some description?
Another almost flat user. Ive had a LMII, SA450 and currently a F1 and all have been run pretty much flat other than the filters. I did like the SA450 for its 100hz boost but i can live without it. Like a lot of player i also use a BDDI in front of mine (less so with the F1) and i find i can get a nice big, warm tone most of the time but the BDDI can add enough dirt if i need it. The pre/post EQ DI is a pretty easy thing to change on the LMII. Its just a matter of moving a jumper inside. As some know i had a Streamliner earlier this year but felt it was too far from the MB tone i was used to so sold it on. Its a very different tone to anything MB can produce, both very, very good but MB won out......this time. The Streamliner didn't work too well with my 1212L cab, although it sounded good enough. There is just something magical about a MB/Schroeder rig IMO.
One of my faves was the theme tune to their film Flame, a
Mine as well. This was one of the first songs i managed to work out on piano at school.
Lefties are not cack-handed, just multi-talented
my guitarist plays left handed and I strongly disagree about your statement above ;-)
-
I'm left handed, but hopefully my avatar show me playing a right handed Jazz, the right way round. I couldn't begin to play 'left handed'. My left hand is far more dextrous than my right, that's why it does all the work on the fingerboard, or fongerboad as they used to call it in ye olde days of usenet.
yep, same here. It never really felt right playing left handed (cack handed is another thing altogether though). Maybe it was the fact that i had no choice when i first started but it never felt wrong or awkward to play right handed. Although definitely a left hander there is one other major thing i do right handed ;-)

Cheers Nick, emails sent to the relevant sellers.

Cheers Nick. I know the thread you're talking about, ill have a look in there. I have seen a Orange Squier with a black plate and PG, i dont think it was a CV though. Breman. Thanks for that link. Im going to email they guy and see fi he knows whether ti will fit but at that price im tempted to just get it. I do fancy a black one though.

Yeah, i can see how you need to be on your toes with those gigs. My other band used to ask me to learn loads of songs i never actually got to play, or they would also call out some songs that i had learnt/knew and yes, they would be in another key. Hence the 5 sting. That showed them lol. They would send me their play list without actually indicating what songs they do/dont do. After a while though i learnt them all and would always surprise them that i knew so and so song off the cuff. I dont tend to learn tracks any more, my lot are too lazy. Unless we have a first dance or special request to learn we more or less stick to a core set of songs. Ill give the bass chord thing ago next time i pick the bass up, i could do with a challenge.
-
Oh dont get me wrong, i know chords and intervals etc, its just that i haven't really worked the chords out to any of the songs as i try and learn by ear by just playing the tracks over and over. By the end i can pretty much improvise over the song anyway. This is all in a controlled band setting though. Ive never stood in for anyone at short notice other than depping with another similar band but they did more or less the same set of songs. In fact i used to know most of the songs better than they did. I enjoy spending time learning songs through my PC so tend to brainwash myself with the original tracks on my ipod during the day at work. I find if I know how the song should sound then playing along is pretty easy and stops me getting lost if i do forget how it goes. Ive had a few incidents where ive relied on charts, noyl to have those charts get moved during the gig and ive been left to wing it, badly. One thing i did cheat on (maybe thats not the right phrase) was to buy a 5 string so i could play their versions without having to re work the lines from the original keys. That help a lot and got me in to 5 string basses.
[sup]Two midgets on stage can get nasty[/sup] [sup][/sup]
LOL, i was going to use the Stone 'enge scene from Spinal Tap but this is funnier.
The track is easy so make out a chord chart and just ask the drummer what pattern he is going to play and follow his kick all the way through.
Its funny but i dont think i know the chords to any of the 100+ songs we cover. Its just struck me that if someone was to ask what the chord was i could only tell them the bass note. I tend to sit down and play through the tracks by ear or with bass tabs. Ive never actually written any of them down as i dont want to ever rely on charts at gigs. Does that make me a bit odd lol.

To be honest i cant even think of any other shops in London other than the Gallery, certainly none that stock MB and GB etc.
If you have a look on eBay you'll see that some of the J control plates for sale have a dimensional drawing in the blurb. You could find a few, take a few mesurments and make a card template of the one thats closest to yours, then, if it's the same you could buy it. A friend of mine also had the same complaint as you on his CV J and he replaced it with a black one off eBay, usually they are available in chrome, black & gold colour so you will probably be ok on eBay, hope this is some help.
Any chance of getting the ebay shop link from your mate? I was looking at mine last night and it too is getting a bit tarnished, and i quite fancy getting a black one. No problem if you cant, ill go looking for one at the weekend.
