God save the Queen (no, not the Pistols version). We have a street party to play on the 4th and thought it would be cool to play the national anthem. Hopefully it will be a good sing along, although not a floor filler 😁 Full orchestral presets (inc Timps) sound very grand on this one.

Love em or hate em, Apple Music has the album available in lossless and Digital master versions. Sounds marvellous through my sound system. I’ve got so used to MP3’s over the years it’s liken listening to a brand new album.
-
Even better, use the details of the other scammer on here. Let them play each other off 😁
-
Every scammer I’ve had calls from has been Indian. Not the red kind. Not sure if this is a loaded question, but facts are facts ( to the best of my knowledge, based on accent and and name).

I forgot I had started this thread. As it turned out I got the Quilter instead. It was very nice, and had a punch that my other class D’’s don’t have, but lacked some features that I wanted so I sold it on.

It’s just a scam to get your money before anyone else gets it. Ive seen this a a few times. No one has it, but they are playing on the fact that if they have your money you probably wont go elsewhere. This sort of practice is exactly why i do, even if the delay is slightly longer, and i let them know why im getting my money back. There is nothing to ‘understand’ if it says in stock. That should in no way mean ‘delayed’ for any reason IMO.

Yes. Every time i read a bass ‘ cuts through the mix’ i wonder why thats a plus. Any bass can be made to cut through the mix (makes me wonder if some people know anything about EQ), but surely most of the time you want it sitting exactly where in needs to be, which is not always cutting through. The overall quality of a mix is far important than any one persons ego (Singers excluded, as there really is no hope lol). Getting back to keys players encroaching on the bass players territory. I dont really believe there is one. With some bass players playing right up the other end of the neck, and using 6 string basses to get even higher etc, where do we draw the line? IME we don’t want to get clashing notes, which will sound muddy and not nice at all, but each band/mix/song should be taken on merit and not have a blanket ‘don’t play anything with your left hand’ attitude.

Im now in two bands with a keys player…..me 😂 Although it’s not a conscious decision, i stay out of the way of the bass. After all, i stopped playing bass for a reason so im not going to be wasting a hand duplicating what the bass player is doing. I tend to use my left hand more as a stabiliser than anything else. I try and fill in the space between bass and guitar, but im never louder than either unless i need to be. The bass player in one band is pretty basic so that end off the mix is normally quite clean anyway.

In my case the nut is very low, but i never had a problem with the same strings before, or after. I still dont have the paper in the nut and have changed strings a few times since.
-
Yeah. I was quite surprised this worked, although ive only ever had to do it the once, and only for that particular string.
-
I realise the issue is fixed, but i wanted to add that when i had this issue, i had to put a small piece of card in the nut slot to get it to stop sounding chorused. It was the string, as a new one didnt need the fix, but the fix worked with the faulty string. And mine was also the same type of string.

Have you got in touch with them?

Has anyone bought a bass on a whim just cos of its looks?
dave_bass5 replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Yes. I went from not knowing about Sandblasted basses to getting one in less than an hour, purely for the look. This was in 2016, and it’s still my main bass today. Other than a 5 string bass, everything else I got has been and gone. It’s not the best, but I just love using it. -
Good point When I got my Jack Casady bass, the bridge popped off on the first tune up. I was aware of this issue so had already looked in to a replacement bridge, that was definitely an upgrade. Considering how long the bass has been in production there was no way this would ever be fixed by Epiphone.

Surely if someone is buying a modded bass they are ok with the additions? Who’s to say one persons ‘upgrades’ doesn't work for another as well? I take your point, and its easy to say ‘just buy the right one in the first place’, but in practice how do we know its not going to be the right one until we get it, and on here even being the right one doesn't stop it getting sold on. Most basses aren't sold with many options unless you go higher end, so sometimes we have to do it ourselves. Doesn’t mean the bass is crap to start with, nor after. If someone likes the tone of a certain pup (for example)and someone is selling a bass with that in then its a win win IMO. Nothing is ever cut and dry though, and id be more inclined to buy a bass that hasn't been modified by someone, as ive seen some real disasters. Ive never brought a bass with the intention of changing parts, but as time goes on and you find you want something slightly different, this can be a cheaper way of getting it. Then there are those that just like to mess things up 😁
-
Why would you assume a bass that is almost prefect be a ‘sows ear’? Some people just like a bit of change, that doesn’t mean the bass is crap to start with. If something needs a bit of a tweak to get it how you want it then what’s the big deal?
-
While i agree, sometimes a bass needs a push in the right direction, or else you go boutique and silly prices. Ive found its sometimes cheaper to get an off the peg bass and add the bits you want, rather than have to get a custom bass made with more or less the same result. Saying that, i think quite a few of us don’t really need the features we spend the extra on. For example. My Fender Sandblasted bass came with chrome hardware. I wanted black. The two options seemed to be get a builder to make me one, or just replace the hardware. One worked out at less than £100 on top of the cost of the bass, the other was never an option. Does it sound better, no, of course not, but its a bass i love the look of and cant buy from a shop.
-
I’ve sold a few basses over the years, and a lot of them have had parts changed (upgrades for me). I do think it’s logical that a bass that has had money spent on it should be priced accordingly. You wouldn’t buy a £100 bass, spend another £100 on it and still only sell it for £50 (for example, based on what you paid for it). I’ve always kept the original parts and have given them to the buyers. Its up to them if they want to put them back, sell the extra bits etc. This can soften the blow if paying more than a big standard version I guess.

Probably not the two worst bands on the stage that weekend 😎
-
He can sing, but i thought his timing was all over the place. Didnt like him on Angles. I know its easy to criticise from the couch, but i found it hard to listen to from a musical perspective.
-
Ive just watched the last episode. Even my GF commented that both bass players seemed to be guitarists. I thought both band sounded ok, other than the singers.
-
Because no one in the band is honest enough to stop them 😎

TC Spark was my fav booster pedal. In fact i liked it for both clean and a bit ‘hairy’ boost. An old thread about clean boot here.

Yep. Ive come across it quite a few times. If someone is a ‘pro’ then they know more than i do……..apparently. Just because you get paid to do something does not automatically make you better than those that dont. I was in a discussion on FB earlier this week in a keyboard group. We were talking about the quality of piano's on a particular synth. I said i loved them, they just needed a bit of tweaking (because thats what a programable synth is all about) to get them just perfect for me. Someone commented that ‘this shouldn’t be necessary, as they were programmed by professionals, and who are we to think we can do better). I left that conversation with a smile.

Agree, and also adding a bit more to the price because its recently had a ‘professional set up’ 😏.
