1. I think this is commonly referred to as a foam mute. I believe it was standard on the early Fender basses. A lot of players still use them and it gives the bass a more upright, thumpy tone (again, i believe). James Jamerson used them, as does (or did) Bob Babbit and this is part of the Motown sound.
 2.
My only worry is the Fiesta Red looks VERY pink...is it?! I will NOT be modding, apart from some strings later down the line. Which has the 'best' pickup (s)? (As stock).
Well, as you know i hate the fiesta red, and yes, it is very pink although the room lighting can make it a bit darker. Just dont take it out in daylight as thats when it looks its worst. I think both have usable pickups. I could live with the stock ones but on a bass this cheap i felt i had nothing to lose by modding them, and it did seem to elevate them higher than as stock. I now use a Fender Original (62RI) pickup and to my ears this sounds exactly like a P should, I actually now prefer this pup over the Wziard Thumper.
Just ordered a Matt Freeman P in all of it's black loveliness.
Best of the P range IMO but i know Gareth doesn't like Black basses.
 3.
green/maple fretboard needs to be ordered
Cool. that would look pretty close to the"real" SR Classic then, only with a slimmer neck. Perfect :-)
 4.
Just had a reply back from the vendors, yes, they do these with maple necks....
In green or 3TSB? The 3TSB comes with a maple neck, ive not seen the green with one yet.
 5. This is mint green according to SBMM. Lovely bass, and with a Jazz neck. One day ill own the 3TSB/maple version.
 6.
As much as I am indeed wary to order again, as I have S&T checking things out, I think this time it will be fine.
As long as its not the same guy who checked your last bass before sending it out ;-)
 7.
He's nicked my bass solo....................
Im still struggling with that one. Do you have a Tab for it.
 8. If this is supposed to be a sig model why on earth did they leave the tone knob wired in? The only thing that could possible distinguish this from a bog standard black/maple P and they don't bother to do it right. Still a nice bass though.
 9.
I wish it did, and maybe some tips from Tony on how to get the best from it. He is the master of using chorus.
Yeah, he was a big part of the BC sound IMO. This is all bring back fond memories.
 10.
I'm going to see Big Country live in February,
Ah, so thats who he is. I thought i had heard his name before. So does this come with a chorus pedal ;-) Just had a look at the video and wow, now i can see where some of my bass lines came from back in the 80's. Its nice to see him getting recognition but i dont see a real reason to bring this out. Its like a Squier Matt Freeman only slightly different and more expensive. Still waiting for a Bruce Foxton bass to come out. Now that was a unique looking P bass ;-)
 11. Another Wizard user here. 74's in my CV Jazz and a Thumper in and out of my CV P. I say in and out because ive had a problem fitting it in. It seems to be slightly too big to fit both PG's ive had on the bass. I did manage to file one PG down but at the moment i have a black PG and i really couldn't be bothered filing this down so im using a Fender 62RI (Original) pup in it at the moment, which seems tofit in fine. Both sound pretty close anyway but i will use the Thumper again one day.
 12. Probably two of the cheapest basses in the thread but i love 'em. My two Squier's, now upgraded and im very pleased with how they turned out. The Jazz is pretty much stock other than Wizard 74's and a Gotoh 201 bridge, the P only has the body remaining from the original CV, it now has a Lakland JO neck, Fender 62 Original (RI) pup, Gotoh 201 bridge and new pots and wiring. Not on the couch but leaning against it, i hope that counts. 13. Nope, the full paid version works exactly the same way and yes, its a pain sometimes. I have one or two tracks that crash the app if i try and load them in. You could try the Gllien Kruegar app. They do a free and paid version as well, but this lets you play along to any track you have on the device without having to convert it first. We had a longish thread on the Amplitube app when it was first announced and the reason you have to convert/import the tracks was to help keep the latency down by upping the freq of the tracks first. This sounded reasonable until the GK amp came out and showed you can still get low latency without doing this.
 14.
Dave, I've just done that search and find that I was asking the same question 3 years ago!, when I ended up buying the MP-BT1. The GTR1 was around then it seems, but was £265 at the time - twice the price of the MP-BT1. The GTR-1 can now be got for £160 via Amazon! Clive
15. No experience with that although i have seen it mentioned a few times. There have been a few threads similar to this, might be worth doing a search and see what others use/think.
 16. Thats bad news Gareth. Im not sure how long it normally takes but i would give it another day or so. The last refund i got took about 4 working days. Edit to say i have also had them much quicker if its to a debit card, my comment about was for a credit card.
 17.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't have an I phone, or know anything about them. Could I plug then bass in and have the drums and bass in the headphones?
If you had a iPhone then a iRig would be the way to go but IMO its a bit over the top to buy a iPhone just for this. Owning both a Pandora 4 and a iPhone 4 (with the iRig adaptor) i find the iPhone a bit of a pain for serious practising. There are some very good apps for it, way beyond what the PX4D offers but IME the PX4D is a more solid practice tool. If you have a ipod or mp3 player that plugs straight in and you can play along with it it. You can slow or speed up the mp3's if needed, although the quality suffers quite a bit if you go too far. I've not used the rhythm section much but it does sound like its what your looking for. You can chain patterns together, add fills etc. What you cant do is create your own patterns. The mini looks to be a better option than the PX4D, i was going to replace my PX4D with one a while ago but then i realised i hardly use what i have (sorry, not for sale as it does come in handy). Im happy to lend it to you for a week or so if you wanted to check it out.
 18. Duck doesn't need 4 strings to sound good :-)
 19. Ive got them on my Lakland neck and my Squier (what's left of it) seems to balance a bit better now.
 20.
Ohh any link. It's always good for a laugh.
http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-basses/51297-ordering-new-bass-uk.html
 21. Indeed. I'm still having loads of trouble with 4 string basses ;-)
 22. Good man. And any mistakes you do made can be blamed on the new bass ;-)
 23.
Someone better call GAK and warn them .
fixed it for you ;-)
 24.
Im loving mine, and not noticed the neck width being any wider than a jazz in feel.
It is though, and while its a lovely slim P neck i do prefer a proper Jazz neck. Not unplayable though, just my personal preference.
 25. Congrats on the new bass. I'm slowly coming around to how nice this bass looks. If it wasnt for the fact that it has a bit of a wider neck i would go for one. As much as i love maple fretboard's if this was RW i could put my CV Jazz neck on it, but i dont think it would look right on this bass.
