1.
Who's waiting for the pics so they can point out a slightly misaligned p/g screw and say to send it back.
Oh great, now he will be inspecting the PG screws
2.
There is a very worrying silence from Gareth.
He has probably taken it apart and is getting the neck and body carbon dated lol. Sound like a winner though, good on him, its been a stressful year for him (and us), glad its ending with a good result.
3. I think this might be a good feature. It might help the mods keep track of any disputes etc.
4.
A bad workman blames his tools, you've got to be pretty lousy workman to not even bring the tools.
Yeah, not very professional to turn up with a non working bass. Ive said this before but ive actually wired a bass at a gig using gaffa tape. I took the wrong bass to a gig and it didnt have the pup's wired to the pots. For the record (or poll) i only take one bass to gigs now.
5. This si very good news Gareth, at last you got what you have been waiting for. Very pleased for you and its good news that your year is ending on a high. Shame we have to have threads like the last one though.
6. You could also try asking Andy what he suggests. I ended up going for a set of 74s as i found the 84's a bit too dark and thick for my CV Jazz. I also had the 74's in my HW-one Jazz and although they sounded different in that bass they still made a nice improvement to the stock HW-one pups.
7. I was just going to post that as well. I love the look of the black PG it has Mel.
8. There has already been a lot of talk about this (and the blue version) and so far ive not read anything negative, other than personal preferences. You really cant go wrong with any of the CV line IMO.
9. Ill give it a try EDIT: Cant see how to do it now. Using FF8 and IE9 (both normal and compatability mode)
10. After going through quite a few basses i always come back to the P or Jazz, so now i own one of each and i cant see me needing anything else, and for Thats not to say i wont get anything else, just that i dont actually need it. And an added bonus is that both my current basses are cheap ones. I wouldn't say the P is the best sounding bass ive owned, but its the one that fits most of the music i play.
11.
HAHA that is ace. A great memory to look back on in years to come
Even more bizarre is that the place we were told we could go and sit in was called the Hub. We all cracked up. I'm sure some of you will get the reason why ;-) The gig turned out to be ok. I had a very nice, deep tone from the CVP and Ti's, plus i used the BDDI this time. It really does seem to help with the low end, especially on the tini wooden stage. Shame your not enjoying it as much at the moment. I'm sure it will pass (or sort itself out, one way or another).
12. Army gig tonight. Guests arrived 1 hour earlier than we were told to arrive. Both us and guests entering via the same small door way. DJ disappeared after turning music on, meaning our sound check was in front of a full marquee with bloody Cher playing over us. Then we get told instead of 2 one hour sets can we just do one and a bit. Lovely, only we now have 4 1/2 hours to kill before we get to play. We are sitting in a cafe on the base with a load of squadies watching bloody X factor and getting drunk (them and us). Rock and roll
13. Whats the difference? Wouldnt you be able to learn the individual sections from the on line tab and just play them like the single version? Just a suggestion.
14. I didnt realise that. Good to know i wasnt imagining the similarity between the two brands.
15. I used to use Lakland nickels and loved them. You can order Lakland strings direct from their website. I felt they were pretty close to XL's, my favourite string. They were pretty cheap, especially if you order a couple of packs at the same time. I tihnk they were about £21 inc postage for a 5 string set back the. I did try the SS strings and did like them, they did seem a bit mellower than the usual SS i've tried in the past. I think they are made by GHS, and some people say you might as well just get those but i couldnt find an identical set so wne tfor the Laklands.
16.
I really like those but thay only work if you have handles on the ride?? My MarkBass combo has a handle on top so that might look a bit silly Oh and I want your bass
Yep, i had one and it was useless with my small rig.
17. The one thing that bugged me with this stand is that my strap would sometimes go under it and when i took the bass off the stand the stand would come with it. I also found that with my strap on the floor, my transmitter would get trodden on. I now use the hanging stand but keep the small one as a spare.
18. Ive had a couple for a few years. They do the job ok. I have found my Jazz basses sit at a bit of an angle, the P will sit pointing straight up.
19. I would personally keep it Post EQ. For one thing the filters can be useful, as can the EQ so it would be a bit pointless just going pre, you might as well just hook up a DI box. The second reason i would go with post is that a lot (or at least some) people find the DI out a bit hit or miss as far as level and/or quality goes. Having a bit of EQ could help with that. Also make sure you tell your sound guy the DI is actually line level and not mic, he might need to make allowances for this.
20. Knowing what my guys are like i can well imagine it not going anywhere. They did say he would turn up and just sit in the corner, looked like he was asleep most of the time, and couldn't sing in the correct key.
21. No, this was something that never got out of basic rehearsals apparently. I wasnt involved so cant really confirm what happened but i think they quit when they realised it wasn't going anywhere. Could be that this wasn't the final project Brian did.
22.
Just because you mentioned it I played an American Special and it was very nice. I beleive this is what has taken over from the Highway One.
It does look like that but there are some difference between the two lines, its a shame the HW-one is no more.
23. I love the HW-1/Ones. I've had a HW1 Jazz and a HW-one Jazz and P. All very nice instruments.
24. I remember my cousin playing me a live Sweet album back in the 70's and i was knocked out by how heavy they sounded back then. Great band. The singer (who was also playing bass) and guitarist in my current band were doing something with Brian Connolly just before he died. By all accounts he never really looked alive.
25. I have to ask, why get rid of one bass that seems to work fine, only to spend more money on getting another? I would have thought the Black MF would have been perfect.
