1.
It could, but you would expect more people to be affected. As far as I'm aware the iPhone issue is affecting loads of people - lagging while typing on PCs is only a very small number.
I agree, the PC issue isnt widespread but considering the old site (and every other site) works 100% as far as i know, and doesn't on the iPhone then i dont think we should rule out the forum software not being at least part of the cause.
2.
Mr. Wazoo - there's no traffic / processing happening across 'tinternet when you type - only when selecting certain options from the toolbar above. Any lagginess you're getting while typing standard text is a local issue. Trying another browser and letting us know whether it's still a problem will be very useful to know.
I agree with this, otherwise everyone would be having the same issues. But, no one has come up with a reason why iPhone users are suffering with really poor text lagging. Based on the last few posts saying its got to be at our end i would assume its a compatibility issue with the forum software and Safari (on iPhone), couldn't this also cause issues on a PC with desktop browsers? Just thinking out aloud.
3.
He can expect you to know what you are doing and play at a volume appropriate to his pub and his clientelle. That would be why he is paying you and not the other way round.
I agree with BottomE. Some will expect you to play at the volume they want you to play, disregarding that you (may be) are a professional band that do know what your doing and have set your levels to reach just the right spot in the room. We do loads of social clubs and always, always, get told to turn down by some people and moaned at by others who cant hear us. Whose right? We judge the room by the audiences reactions and if too many down the front are putting fingers in ears etc we will turn down, but now were are being dictated to by old people sitting near the front. That doesnt mean we are too loud, just too loud for some people who refuse to move and spoil it for others. Of course there are those idiots that cant turn down, or have no idea peoples ears are bleeding but its not always the band thats in the wrong just because someone says they are too loud. Then again, if its the guy who is paying you then you should oblige if you want more gigs/paying etc.
4. Forgot to add, i do agree about the music not being too loud at the bar area. Its not a good situation to have to rip your throat apart ordering drinks.
5. I think it works both ways though. If a pub is putting a band on to draw customers, advertising live music, then the music need to be at a reasonable level for the crowd to enjoy it. Ive seen originals pop/rock bands struggling in a pub near where i used to live because the landlord was a jazz fan, so didn't like loud music, but was putting bands on to draw people in, to boost profits. The bands were always being told to turn down, much lower than usual for a live music pub and soon people stopped going. might as well have put the juke box on. I think the landlords need to decide what they expect from a live music night. Get a good rep for putting on a good night, or give it up because one or two 60 year old regulars, who sit right at the front cant hear themselves moaning about the youth of today etc. Just my view.
6. The wedding couple (nice young couple) were standing almost in front of us when this happened. They were very understanding, but didn't really get what was going on and didnt get involved. We didn't want to make a big fuss so didn't have a go at the landlord as everyone was watching and as it was an agency gig we didn't want anything to come back on us so more or less bit our tongue. I have a feeling he didn't have a music licence and was worried about the neighbours, as there were houses all around the pub. Just a one off though so water under the bridge.
7. We did a wedding a couple of years ago, somewhere up north IIR. It was in a small marquee at the back of a pub. At first the landlord seemed like a nice bloke, a bit of a wide boy but friendly enough. He did get the staff to ask us to turn down a couple of times during the first set and we tried. We turned our sub off, took all instruments out of the small PA and did turn down. We really weren't that loud though, and you could here people talking at the back of the marque during intro etc. In to the second he stormed over and pulled down every fader on our desk, mid song, and in front of the wedding party who were in full swing. He started to have a go at us and when we argued that we were there to entertain the guests and couldn't go any lower he told us to do it or pack up and go home. He said, in a loud voice, its my pub, i dont care about anything else, you do as i say. The wedding party were very apologetic, but we didnt make a fuss as it was their day but what a ass hole this guy was.
8. ......and if simonmoon doesnt take it, and its a standard Fender fit ill take it.
9. You could maybe put it in the email notifications. On the subject of those (i know this isnt the right thread), i still cant get money figures to show properly. Im still getting code instead of the £ symbol followed by a number. Oh, and yeah, its pretty fast here at the moment.
10. Ive just tried IE8 and IE9 on two of my work PC's and they work fine (speed wise) so i think its possibly more to it than just the server getting bogged down. Oh, and FF6 and Chrome seem ok here as well.
11. Thanks Ped. The site loads quick enough on my iPhone, its just the text entry i have a problem with.
12.
Regarding mobile phones - the forum is currently using the full site, not a mobile theme. This means your phone will have to load the website that was meant to run on a much faster desktop/laptop PC that would have had a faster connection too. Mobile phones are simply nowhere near as fast as their larger counterparts yet.
Im no expert but i use full sites (as far as i know) for other forums, even flicker with all its images etc on my iPhone and have no problems typing with any of those, so while the above makes sense i dont think thats the reason.
13.
Specifically regarding input delays - does that occur on multiple browsers ? Try toggling the editing mode (button at top left of the edit box) and see if that makes any difference ? Isolating the problem is critical to being able to do something about it. EDIT: This post took less than 1 second to appear on my screen.
I've only got Safari on my iPhone and thats the only browser im having issues with. As i mentioned in the other thread, i cant access the mobile version to try. clicking on the "use mobile version" hyper link just refreshes the page.
14.
Even opening or replying to a thread is tediously slow, at the end of the day, I know I am only one person to feel this frustrated, but if this is causing me not to bother, switch off and watch something else, waiting for a day when it's up to speed again, then I guess it should be cause for concern if more people reacts like me. I press enter and ..... here goes nothing!
Its not just you, I think a lot of us feel frustrated at the moment. There were a few messages i wante dto reply to yesterday on my iPhone but its too much of a chore at the moment so i didnt bother. Funny thing though, im not having any PC issues at the moment at work. The site seems fine, typing is fast etc. It does seem a bit slower at home (on 50meg VM) but only this site so i know its not my connection or PC.
15. I think the transfer to the new server is still slowing things down. The way i understood it was that when the site was first updated it was on the old sever, it settled down a bit but then they started moving it to the new server so we have the slowdown again. No idea why the iPhones are getting the typing issues but it seems ok on my PCs.
16. I can't get the mobile version working on my iPhone. When i select the hyperlink to use it I just get taken back to the page im already on. Anyone else seeing this?
17.
I simply can't use the site on my iPhone, it's desperately slow and unresponsive. Which is gutting as that where I'm visiting from pretty much the whole time. gutted.
Im still having a iPhone problem as well. The pages are fine but any typing is really, really slow.
18.
Yep it's definitely a browser issue. I have Firefox and it works ok but I still need to keep reporting the issues until they are resolved ... for the greater good.
Good thinking, im sure there are still 10000's of people using IE8, i know of two big companies still no IE6.
19.
Ah ok thanks Dave.
No problem. Could you possible use a different browser to see if its your PC or IE8?
20. Just brought some very cool looking strings off John. Nice quick delivery and a great price. Top bloke, cheers.
21.
just to ad the site's gone back to being painfully slow for me... hope things settle down...the delays are actually putting me off using basschat at the moment
Same here. I also find typing on my iPhone 4 to be so laggy that i could write a few words before anything shows up in the text box. Totally unusable for me now.
22.
Thanks chaps, looks like I made the right choice! The H2 should be with me on Friday
If it doesn't arrive tomorrow you're welcome to borrow my Edirol R-09HR. After looking around for something simple to record our gigs from the stage i found the Edirol to be ideal. It comes with a remote control, has a large flashing record button on the front and straps to my singers mic stand so we get a good stereo recording. It doesnt offer many bells and whistles but it does the job.
23. Just brought a Lakland neck of Duncan. Very quick delivery, packed well and no issues with it. He kept me up to date regarding shipping and also offered some advice on attaching it to my bass. Cheers mate.
24. Ooooo, i didnt know i had a thread. Cheers guys.
