That made my blood boil, but then I laughed at the laugh bit. I have a mate like him. Saw him recently. He brought a camera from Hong Kong. It arrived but the lens wasn't working. He arranged to send it back, and the company agreed to an exchange, no problem, but he ‘demanded’ compensation, a full refund and wouldn't pay for the replacement until he had tested it 🙄.

Not sure what that does, but have a look at AUM. This is really a game changer (IME). Allows you to run a rack load of synths on even the bottom of the range ipad 9.

+1. This is far more practical these days, as Android seems to be a second runner when it comes to mobile music apps.

The later iPhones are more than powerful enough. To be clear, if you are using a controller that is also an interface, just a single USB cable will do it all. I used to run an organ app called VB3m on my iPhone. This was connected to my MODX with a USB cable. Both midi and audio signal go down the same cable, so the audio from the phone came back in to my MODX, and then wen tout its main output. Pretty neat. I sometimes take a small keyboard controller and my iPhone over to a mates house, and i have a very high quality organ and piano on it. If you don’t have the interface in the controller then yeah, the camera connection kit and a cheap hub is all thats needed. You wont even need a hub with headphone out, just a standard USB to headphone jack (£7 off Amazon) will get the audio out to a mixer etc.

Yes, i agree with this. It took me two years to really embrace using my ipad as my second sound source, but now i have, i could quite easily use this rather than my MODX as my main keyboard. It is more convenient to have a ‘proper’ synth with it all built in, but once you go ipad/laptop, you have pretty much any sound you could want at your finger tips, as well as sequences, and Netflix (for those long guitar solo’s). Plus, using something like AUM allows you to do so much with sythns that it makes real keyboard look very basic.

Have you considered a contorller keyboard and using your phone (or tablet) for the sounds? You can get some pretty decent keyboards for well under budget.

Because its fun 😂. Id get frustrated and annoyed just by reading the message, so the harm (if you want to call it that) has already been done whether I reply or not. I know when to stop, and im not outright rude, but ill have a bit of fun with it and see how it goes. Obviously only to the stupid ones where i know there in no chance of a sale. Im always happy to answer questions, but i expect people to have at least read my ad and not ask really obvious ones (or put a stupidly low offer in). I think those sort of people need a reply at least 😎

If someone offers me £400 for something listed at £850 I’ll take that as sarcasm and give it back. I get the broken English thing, you can normally tell by the way the message is written, but if they can’t read an ad how will they read a reply? My philosophy is there will always be someone else along that will want it and pay a reasonable price. I haven’t lost a sale if is a stupid low ball offer. Slightly off topic, my bands were looking for a drummer last month. We had 6 get in touch and all turned up and we good players. We got sorted. I put, in capitals at the top of the ad that we are now sorted, and I’m still getting drummers get in touch with their credentials and telling me they are available for auditions. Drummer jokes aside, what is going through their minds when they know it’s all done and dusted?

Why is it absurd to adjust an instrument to how you want it to feel? Dont we adjust neck relief and action so we get it playing how we want it? Doesn’t mean there is a fault, just that it’s not set up to our liking. Id expect almost every bass gets set up to a players spec, no matter how much it costs. Shimming is part of that. Why should it matter what you adjust if the end result is a bass that plays exactly as you want it? Also plenty of high cost basses use bolt on, its a choice.

No in my experience. If i buy an off the shelf bass, how did the manufacture make it so that i like it? Just because i don’t like something doesn’t mean it has a fault. You could surely say the same about adjustable bridges. Why have the ability to adjust the strings? Is it to rectify a fault? I know the two arent the same, and it can be said its fixing an issue, but the ability to tweak every part of a bass so that it works better for an individual is surely not just covering a fault?

Don’t forget the ability to shim the neck and make it even more personal to the individuals playing and feel.

Depends what you class as expensive i guess. In all my years of playing, every bass ive owned has been bolt on, with no neck trough options. Its never something ive ever even thought about, its just how its been. I agree about the position indication. Although i dont go up that end much, im so used to how a bolt on feels when i do that im partially lost without being aware of the join when im playing.

When i was selling my GK MB800 i put in the ad that the XLR wasnt working, but other than that, it was all good and priced this accordingly. Had a couple of lowball offers the same day, then one guy genuinely interested. We had a chat and he didnt argue about the price, but asked if it was all working perfectly. I pointed out that my ad clearly states its condition, and no, the XLR doesn't work. At that point he came but with a much lower offer, due to it not being in perfect working condition 😂 I stood my ground and we met up and he paid the asking price. Was a nice guy, and we had a good chat. I just couldn't get over how he didn't know about the issue before.

Exactly this, its just a bit (or couple of bits of wood and some metal 😎). If people want to pay a lot more for works of art then thats a different matter, but im guessing this is really just personal preference and not a big deal for most. Every time i play a neck through i feel uncomfortable, like im missing something. Its probably that the neck joint is a familiar point on the neck for me, but its somethings i would rather have than not have. Especially considering the cost differences most of the time.

No, thats what i was saying earlier. This i also why i mentioned going to an amp. Obviously you can go direct to desk, but its not being sold as a box that does. if i was using a rig on stage, id just be using it an FX board, just like I did with my Helix. For this it seems purpose built. Possibly a missed opportunity though.

Well even then, its not really an issue for most people using it (IMO of course). Balanced gives you more protection against noise over long cable runs, but if its an issue you can use a DI box.
