  1. Cheers mate. My son has some thin sheets of balsa, i hadnt thought of that.
  2. [quote name='ped' timestamp='1316341233' post='1376635'] I think quote tags on the old forum worked differently so perhaps we can change that so old posts display correctly. The new PM system works really nicely, though. Cheers [/quote] Yeah, the new PM's look really nice. One other niggle, im getting emails each time someone posts, is there a way of only getting one notification per visit? Cheers. EDIT: Ignor that, i see the notification system is a lot more configurable, ill work it out.
  3. Ive just brought a Lakland JO neck off another member, with the intention of getting it on my CVP. I realise its not going to be a quick fit as i believe Lakland have smaller neck pockets on their basses but im hoping the holes will at least line up. If they do (and all indication says they will) im going to have a gap around the heel. I'd rather not spend too much getting it sorted so im after suggestions as to what i can do about it. I guess a shim will be a good idea, can i use card like i would under the neck? If its all tightened down do i even need to bother with the gap? I realise if the neck gets bumped it could go out of alignment but will the sustain and tone be affected much? Cheers for any help, ive swapped necks before but always like for like (ie Fender for Fender)
  4. Ive just noticed my PM's seem a bit harder to read, especially ones with a few replies in them. It looks like the different replies within the PM are just separated by the word Quote. Am i missing something?, will this be refined at all? EDIT: It seems like its just the old PM's not converted properly, the new ones seem to be fine.
  5. Well done to all those involved. So far i like the new layout, it seems to fit my wide screen monitor better and looks less cluttered. I also like the mobile version, again, nice and clean and a bit easier to use (so far).
  6. [quote name='TRBboy' post='1375583' date='Sep 16 2011, 02:31 PM']The main physical difference I've noticed from a "traditional" bass is that the fretboard radius seems to be a lot larger, i.e. the fretboard is flatter. I LOVE this, it seems to help make the neck feel faster and easier to play. In case you're interested, here's the link to when I bought my Cali PM a couple of months ago; [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=147557&hl=Sandberg"]http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=Sandberg[/url][/quote] I agree about the neck, i too love the feel of a flatter fretboard, thats why i love Laklands with their 10" radius but i think the Sandbergs are even flatter. Im not even going to click on that link as i know whats in it and i dont want to see it lol.
  7. Now i have a F1 i can get it, along with everything else other than bass and cab in to a small DELL laptop bag. More protection and it didnt cost me anything as i found it in a skip.
  8. [quote name='OmeDunk' post='1375518' date='Sep 16 2011, 01:50 PM']The previous owner replaced the lakkie decal with a custom "Dr. Funkenstein"-decal. Not really my cup of thea. So I removed it.[/quote] Ah right. I've PM'ed you about it as Im very interested. Cheers.
  9. [quote name='Muzz' post='1375490' date='Sep 16 2011, 01:35 PM']Then I get collared to help bring in the pointlessly massive PA... [/quote] Same here, plus heavy guitar combo's, more guitars than the band have hands etc. Ive stared having to go for a pee at load outs recently
  10. [quote name='oldslapper' post='1375460' date='Sep 16 2011, 01:24 PM']Hi Dave, they're 45-105's medium gauge. John[/quote] Nice one, thats suits me fine. How do you want paying?
  11. What gauge are they? I'd like to give them a go so as long as they aren't extra light or heavy ill take them. Cheers.
  12. I had one of the larger MB bags for my SA450, paid about £85 and it was rubbish. It has holes at each end for the vents but these also let in rain if you have the bag on your back/shoulder. I also found the zip on the front pocket to rip after a few months.
  13. [quote name='Spoombung' post='1375319' date='Sep 16 2011, 11:29 AM']That's a rather enthusiastic '+10000' Oh, I give up. I will leave the big chunky, heavy basses for the poor unfortunates who think they deserve them![/quote] Actually i only meant to type 100 but my bloody iPhone likes to mess with me lol. I just really hate the look of those basses, with a passion, even though i know they are lovely basses. My Squier CV weighs just over 8lbs (and only cost £280), thats more than light enough for a 3 hour gig, at least for me. In fact any lighter and it just wouldn't feel right.
  14. [quote name='silddx' post='1375294' date='Sep 16 2011, 11:05 AM']This just isn't me .. This is .. [/quote] +10000 although i do love the Blackburst finish more than the gloss.
  15. [quote name='Spoombung' post='1375207' date='Sep 16 2011, 09:44 AM']The majority of Sandbergs are basically Fenders with heavy hardware. They're heavy, chunky things... usually with neck dive. No amount of 'relic' or 'roughing up will disguise this. The GMR has extended horns for a reason: balance and comfort. The reason I mentioned them was that comfort seemed important to the poster. Someone has thought about the GMR design in relation to to the human body, unlike the Sandberg Fender-appropriated models which are cosmetic variations on the original. The GMR will sit up in the lap and the strap, will have great contouring and have a slim neck. It might suit him![/quote] Fair enough, it might suit him although it looks nothing like the JM/PM he was asking about, which of course are Fender clones. Each to his/her own. My comment about it was purely from my point of view, based on the look. I have never had an issue with any Fender type basses being hard or uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, and i think any of those extended top horn basses look like you have a penis 12" from your mouth ;-)
  16. [quote name='Spoombung' post='1375138' date='Sep 16 2011, 08:21 AM']You should also consider the Polish GMR basses - they have them at Bass Merchant. They're infinitely better designed than Sandbergs - shaped ergonomically with slimmer necks and better balance[/quote] I totally disagree, i think that looks fugly, but then im not in to extended top horns, or Warwicks.
  17. Sorry, not a particularly interesting shot but this is my band playing at my girlfriends 40th birthday party. As it was her night we allowed her to sing the first set. She is a great singer and front person and we are hoping to get a band together next year (we met when playing in the same band). Before anyone asks, yes, there was food there so no, im not eating my pick, nor had i lost it, nope, i dont play with it in my mouth etc etc :-), it was just here as i was trying some finger style playing. and this was at one of our Social club gigs Both shots were taken by our son
  18. [quote name='biro' post='1374196' date='Sep 15 2011, 11:12 AM']but I ended up thinking that it was kind of lacking in personality.[/quote] Thats the Adam Clayton model
  19. [quote name='silddx' post='1374159' date='Sep 15 2011, 10:46 AM']They are so low compared to GG. But then I swore I would NEVER use Thomann again after my recent pitiful expreriences with them regarding the quality of what they sent me and their customer service.[/quote] I remember the grief you had with Thomanns but IMO i wouldn't rule them out. I and many others have had outstanding service from them, way above anything ive ever had from any UK site/shop. Just saying.
  20. Right, im unsubscribing as im in a very unbalanced state with my finances and i can see how this will end :-(
  21. Nicest looking bass ive ever played was a Blackburst Cali PM5. I almost brought it but a Lakland won me over. One day i will definitely own one although it would have to be a custom as i dont like the look of the plain fretboard.
  22. [quote name='StevieD_FenderP2009' post='1373145' date='Sep 14 2011, 01:00 PM']Ah right cool, without risk of sounding stupid, is it as easy as just taking the plug off and putting the kettle lead end on? what about the fuse that's inside a normal plug? cheers guys[/quote] Im no expert so cant answer the fuse thing 100% but im guessing you power block should have a fuse/fuses in it. You do get different styles of plug, although they should all be the same fit, ive found that some are better than others, plus some have a groove down the middle. You dont need that type although they should work ok. You can also get high power rated ones but ive never needed to use one like that. I just get the standard ones from Maplins and these seem to work ok. As far as wiring goes its just the usual 2 or 3 wires, just like a mains plug. A few things ive brought have had those moulded plugs on them, i just cut them off and put a kettle plug on the end.
  23. [quote name='cytania' post='1372522' date='Sep 13 2011, 09:04 PM']What can you see as the advantages or drawbacks of this arrangement? Did Leo get it wrong? [/quote] After owning a couple fo basses that have had tuners on the underside of the headstock, and finding myself hitting them on various surfaces, and going out of tune, im glad Leo decided to put them on the top side of the headstock, where they have a bit more protection.
  24. Yep, ive done it on a few devices over the years, and all our lights have them on now so we can link them up.
