1. I was walking under Charing cross bridge and saw a great band playing outdoors but as i had my 7 year old with me who had spotted the funfair i couldn't hang around. The band sounded fantastic and i was very impressed with the bass player (playing a Fender Jazz). I'd love to know who there were.
 2.
Well there's the solution... Swap gigs with the OP asnd you'll both be happy
yeah, that could work but london is a big place. Shame im already in a band or i would be happy to give it a go.
 3. Living and working in the centre of London im always moaning that we have to travel out of the capital to play most of our gigs, an dit would be great to play one where i can walk or just get a tube to it. Saying that, on the odd occasions that we have had inner London gigs they have been a right pain to get to, load in (especially), park etc so i dont blame anyone for not relishing playing in London, but i would never turn a paying gig down just because its more hassle (as much as i would like to sometimes)
 4. Ive gone through 3 bridges on my Squier CVP. The original HM, a Fender (BBOT) vintage and a Gotoh 201. I didn't notice much difference in tone or sustain, but i much prefer the feel of the Gotoh when im resting the side of my hand on it, and i think it looks the best. Good enough reason for me to have done the upgrade IMO.
 5. This reminds me of my old Ashdown ABM head. A big plus for me was it had a mute. Not only did it click when engaged it never actually muted either. It would attenuate the signal quite a bit but it would never 100% silence my bass. Even at home levels i noticed this. Ashdown seemed to think this was normal when questioned. Never again.
 6.
+1 for the Auralex Gramma Pad.
Same here. Having played the same few boomy stages of the past few years my tone has become a lot cleaner, with no loss of low end, since i got my GP. Now i wouldn't gig without it, even if i dont actually always need it.
 7.
Nice demo here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_56iFr402U
Yeah, its probably the best ive seen, mainly as it covers a few different styles and not just that "how to sound like you have an Ampeg" tone.
 8. Having used MB heads for a few years with no FX etc i now couldn't (or rather wouldn't like to) gig without my BDDI. I dont use it for any of that Ampeg nonsense, nor for any distortion but it does seem to bring my tone to life with just a small amount on the blend knob. A nicer, deeper low end and some nice sparkle. Seems to work well with MB heads. The Behringer BDI21 9BDDI clone) is under £30 and well worth a try IMO, and almost as good as the real thing.
 9. These are great basses. I had two 5 string versions in white. I still have one of the more conventional body versions (again in white). I dont think you can get these new any more as i believe Music Yo went out of business.
 10. I had 3 MIA Jazz basses last year and all had defects that my HW-1/one and Squiers (in fact all my past basses) didnt have. I had a MIM classic 70s Jazz that had a raised 12th fret as well. Dont go on cost, go on what feels best/sounds best, higher cost doesn't guarantee getting the best these days. They all offer different features as well so its worth looking at the specs rather than just what type of bass and where its made. Ive owned some nice Laklands and MIA Fender's but quite happy with my Squiere's these days. They all do the job, why pay more for something that probably wont do it any better than a bass that costs half the price.
 11. Unfortunately mine didnt grow on me and i went back to MarkBass (for good this time). I also went from a SA450 to a Streamliner and while i did enjoy it for most gigs it just wasnt my thing. Great amps though so have a bump on me.
 12. Beat ya to it ;-) VM Mustang
 13. Happy Birthday Neil. I had a black Ray34 for a few months last year and loved it. The only issue i had was i still felt the neck was a bit wider than i cared for, but i could live with it if i had to. While they cost a bit more now i still think they are good in their own right. Lots of people say its better to get a secondhand SR4 but its not always that easy to get one that looks as nice as the Ray34 with its matching headstock at that price. I do have GAS for a Ray34CA but doubt ill get one.
 14. Ive got a Peterson Strobo-clip and a Snark and both work really well. I too was a bit sceptical about this type of tuner but ive not had any problems with mine. I only really use the Peterson when i change strings or do a set up as its not cheap and doesn't look like it will hold up to a lot of gigging. The Snark is good enough for gig tuning and it looks pretty good as well. Both work very well in loud environments.
 15.
I'd always been struck by how many posts there were saying how good the Genz team were at resolving the problems they've had - I'd rather see fewer posts about having had problems!
I got flamed by a few members for saying that (even had one irate PM). its a pretty tight knit community over there, more so in the mega threads.
 16.
TC might not be a 450watt amp but they have some clever techy bits that raise its level to the performance of a 450watt amp, so "fraudulent" is not an accurate description in this case.
The way i see it is no matter how loud the head goes, if it doesn't have 450watts then they are lying. The im sure they could use words like Equivalent, as loud as etc but then that might put people off, so knowing that they seem to be covering up the true spec's to help boost their sales. That to me is not honest.
 17. I thought we went over all this in the thread i started a few weeks ago. TC RH450 review
 18.
Cool, I've just ordered one. Thanks for the info
No problem. what one did you go for?
 19.
ok thanks for the pointer
No problem, good luck.
 20.
Does the snark deal with a low B ok? And is it backlit (ie can you use it if its dark?) I'm really tempted by one, especially if it meant I didn't need to take pedals anywhere...
Ive only used my Snark once on a 5 string bass but yes, it seemed to work well. I checked it with my Peterson Stroboclip and both showed correct pitch. It does light up so yes, you can use it on a dark stage. If you have seen any images of it the coloured sections are back lit. They arent too bright but i like it like that as it doesn't draw any attention.
 21. Hi and welcome. If you need help or want to discuss something you should post this in maybe the amplifier or tech help forum rather than the introduction forum.
 22.
Yes those frets add to the very vintage feel when playing it.
Indeed. The laklands (at least the ones ive owned) also have vintage style frets, this could be why a lot of people love the necks.
 23.
Funny how a couple of mm makes all the difference. I prefer less than 40mm, preferably 38mm. No way I can get comfortable with a 5 string. Yes, Dave, I believe the Jazz Bass Specials and Power Jazz Bass Specials are MIJ. There was a passive one sold on eBay in the last week for £380, which I think is an excellent price. Especially when you consider that some of the MIJ Squiers can fetch half as much again for no particualr reason that I can see.
I too much prefer 38mm but for me string spacing is also a concern. Im quite happy playing a 5 string (at least, the ones ive owned), yet cant get comfortable with a P neck. Must be old age as i never used to care about all this. Ive seen a few of those basses on eBay but just dont feel comfortable buying second hand away from Bass Chat. I got a JV Squier P bass when they were first launched. Fantastic bass for the money. I got rid of it about 7 years ago for around £350 as a trade in for a HW-1 Jazz. I was told that the big deal is the neck, as its come from the Fender factory. I would say that with so many good cheap basses/necks out now the JV's shouldn't be selling for what they are (or at least what some greedy people expect to get)
Ah! Well it felt much smaller than P basses usually do. STill not tight enough eh?! Still a great compromise, sounds great and plays fast and funky. Sorry for my ill informed ramblings! I'll get me coat!
The neck has the same specs as my CV P neck i believe so not totally unplayable. Ive been trying to get to grips with this neck for almost a year. Ive gigged with it and its a nice neck but i keep going back to the CV Jazz neck. Those vintage frets do make it feel more playable to me and much better than the usual medium-jumbo frets.
 24.
I played this the other day: http://www.thebassgallery.com/product_deta...e=Bass%20Guitar I'd say it's the one to get unless you can find the Lakland 'Dunn' model (think it's name has changed recently). PLayed amazingly with the Jazz profile neck I'm used to, sounded every bit the growly, hollow P bass too. Might get myself one next year. It really is a FENDER P bass with a jazz neck !!
Thats a lovely looking bass, i wouldn't mind one myself but it has a P neck (41.3mm), the DD has a Jazz neck (38mm). Not a great deal in it i admit but having two necks with those nut sizes i much prefer the Jazz neck and do notice a difference. Bugger, P bass GAS now, especially as it has vintage style frets
 25. Nice face, im mean bass ;-) I almost brought either a few times but never quite got around to actually doing it. I will one day though. Aren't the Power basses CIJ or MIJ?
